Just curious. Wouldn't a hard wired blimp in the shape of something like a ✈ with a big wing of generators with ailerons & rudderers for control work?

Does it generate power from both the electric motors turning as wind turbines as well as from pulling on the electric winch at the base? Thx

It’s only from the propellers on the plane for the Makani design.
There are other company’s designs that uses a soft kite to pull the winch on the ground to make power but Makani abandoned that approach early on.
The full documentary is worth watching. It is particularly interesting that the cost of other renewable energy sources fell so fast they undercut Makani’s intended market. The design always looked too fragile, risky and labour intensive to be viable except in niche circumstances.
