The pay is lower in my state. I received my 1 year old niece out of the blue. I had never met her before, the mother was wondering around on drugs with her. She came with a can of formula, a small bag of clothes that smelled like cigarettes, and matted hair. It was only the 3rd of the month and the State gave me NOTHING until the 1st. I wasn't signed up for foster parenting nor was I in the position to take another child as a divorced single mom with limited funds. I had to spend all of my savings in one day. She needed diapers, formula, clothes, a car seat, crib, toys, bottles, stroller, high chair, blankets, food, toiletries, etc. State helped with zero, gave me the number of a charity with a wait list. When I finally got a check it was $400, a fraction of what I spent plus they don't assist with day care costs. So people who say people foster "for the money" are full of it. I did it because she needed me (mom signed over her rights, no idea who the dad is). It's been 2 months and I know I've done the right thing by taking her in and loving her. She's my baby, I love her so much! Forget the money, she's priceless :-)!

In Spain they pay you 6€ per day. No one does foster care for money. It’s not worth it. Everyone does this for love, because a child need a home while his parents are getting help, or were bad parents, and if no one did foster care, the childs would go to centers.

Wow here in Alberta Canada Foster Parents get minimum of 1300. A month and the older they get the more you get at 17 it is almost 2000. Dollars. The children get 675.00 a year for recreation fund 500.00 dollars a year for vacation fund and when they first come into care they get a 400.00 clothing allowance. And as they grow they get 199.99 to bring their clothes to standard. Yes I work for Children Service

People should adopt in this country, there plenty on kids here, no need to go far. Yes, in other state it's more.
You can do Right Start a program to help with day care, or maybe callled something sales . Ask your SW ( social Worker ) because there is FREE day care HELP. But, u have to apply..... Do your research before you ask, it's different in every state as HOW U Qualify.
Look into programs or places help for toys & clothing programs for FOSTER PARENTS.
Because there is so much more that we have to pay for out of pockets. Bed, car seats, cribs, high chairs, humidifier , sometime medicine that isn't covered .

i can tell you as someone that grew up in foster care. in the state of iowa is the worse. i was beaten and physically and mentally abused. so if you ask me no to foster care. but, i do know their good homes out their . but, in my case the system let me down and damaged me worse then ever. i got placed due to my parents both had passed away by the time i was 13 yrs. old. i had to watch my sister get a great foster home and she got adopted but i bounced in the system. cause my worker told me nobody wants to adopt me cause of past family history.

Nah don't believe your caseworker. I had several and only one did their job. My last one didn't do anything, she only came down to visit to use the state paid car to go shopping. I aged out. I am the middle of child. I have 4 siblings and what sucks is that we were once adopted. Even an adoption can go wrong. We all eventually separated and my older siblings turned to trash. All I can say to anyone is don't foster to keep a kid temporarily. Kid has feelings too. Foster to adopt. Foster to help the child. Foster to fill that child's gap in his/her life and not just your own. I aged out and finally in college but my goal is to make my own agency or at least set this so called 'system' straight.

Sandra Xx the requirements are usually more lax then in state adoption, easier to get approved to adopt overseas, usually the baby will not get taken away (birth parents can file a petition to get the baby back after the adoption process is finished. In overseas adoption all that mumbo jumbo legal hurdles are already done with and the baby officially will stay with the new parents), and oddly enough depending on what agency you work with it can sometimes be a bit cheaper adopting internationally

A lot of it has to do with the high risk of getting a baby or toddler affected by drugs. The numbers I've heard quoted are between 600-700 per child in Wichita Kansas (depending on agency). But that's rembersment. That pays for your teens $50 weekly allowance. That's food costs, clothing, cheer supplies, baseball cleets. I am a mom to these kids but it also helps me go from working 60 hour weeks to 40 hour weeks so I can attend theatre performances and parent teacher conferences. And foster care adoption is less than. $100 in filing fees and there are lots of charities that help with that.

This is my take on Foster Care,,,they definitely should PAY MORE...the Foster Parents should get a check for their time and there should be a separate check for the kids expenses!
There's a major sacrifice that goes into caring for a child, esp one that's not your natural responsibility.
It costs way too much money to live in this world and if you have the heart to take these precious children in your home out of horrific situations you should be compensated!
There's definitely a flaw in the system, the kids should also come with an EBT card along with the medical... FOOD COSTS way too much money... FOSTER PARENTS are doing the STATE A BIG FAVOR.... If they did the system right more ppl would become foster parents and children wouldn't linger in the system so long.

510 a month is NOTHING when you have to feed a child, buy them toys, buy clothes, send them to summer camp, etc. buying the child a bed and dresser is 600 so really you should get a month in advance just to set them up- not fair at all. basketball camp alone is 300 a month up north.

Depending on where you adopt from there may be no cost to actually adopt. If you adopt a child from your state of residence (that lives in the same state) it may not cost anything because the state covers the expenses of adoption (court costs, attorney's fees, etc). If you find a child from another state it may cost up to $3,000.

I don't understand the negative comments here. First of all you should not have said; "how much money do foster parents get paid." Foster families get reimbursed for the expenses of that child. The reimbursement is for food, gas, school supplies clothing, after school activities, etc. which the reimbursement does not cover everything.
The government is trying to encourage and help the families that are not rich and by fostering will not put stress financially on them. There are a lot of good families that want to give a good home to those kids that are in the system, and thy could not afford to take in kids if not for government assistance.
Yes there are good and bad foster parents there unfortunately but let's not judge everybody for some people mistakes. Not everybody is in for the wrong reason.

$45 a day is quite a bit. That would be $1350 a month. That should cover just about everything in a month. Emergency/fluke months excluded of course. That's just a little over the average monthly cost of a child without being in foster care as well. So where ever you live, your state has really stepped up their initiatives to truly help foster care families. Which is really awesome to hear. I was a child in the system for a while, and it's great to hear that some places are helping a bit more. I'm sure that helps quite a bit when people think they wouldn't be able to to afford doing foster care. If you don't mind me asking, which state do you live in?

So if u have 5 in the household all bills should be split by the number of the people in home. Thereby knowing a average cost per a person. So if u have 3 people and 2 fosters. The per a person u are responsible for is 3. And the 2 will be their cost individually.

......a Haha Bruce you right bro. But you WRONG too!! Lol foster parents don't pay for much. It really depends on the type of placement. I was placed in a kinship placement and they never received any money from the state to help with me and my 4 siblings. Yes, I did say it was kinship. However, there was no relationship between any of us. After all, they failed to pass being a foster parent. They were good people though. Everything came out of their pocket that was for things that satisfied what we wanted. Yes, the state paid for the medical bills and stuff like that, but that's it. I was placed in private school which was against CPS but they didn't care since they never received funds. I left that home to live with an actual certified foster parent and she did get money but not for gifts.
