Hey! just wanted to get some insight on what you recommend. My child is in second grade and just had a conference with his teacher to see that they are struggling in some areas. What apps or programs do you recommend to help them improve on every aspect. Mother thinks they should be held back and I don't believe that's the answer. I feel there is a lack of them understanding somethings.
For math and reading I have a review video on here for each of 10 online reading and 10 online math programs. A lot of them can be used for kids in school to improve. I would maybe start with IXL and have them do the diagnostics assessments, then it recommends skills to close any learning gaps. I have a link for a 7 day free trial in the descriptions of those videos. I would start there.
My 7 year old is on the spectrum, has a very short attention span and gives up easily if he doesn’t immediately catch on. He is really into games and videos. What program(s) for reading would you suggest for him to keep him engaged?
I love the short lessons in Essentails in Writing. I just did a video on it. The video lessons are like 4 minutes long (at least at the level we are doing, Level 2) and then you print out the worksheets and what I do is break them up to do over several days so we can quit while we're ahead. Night Zookeeper is the other program we use which is done online and is game based.
Hooked on Phonics is a more well-rounded learn-to-read curriculum. I would look at this more as a tool to improve reading skills, not necessarily as a tool to build them from scratch.
is there woke content that is easily accesssible for the child to read? I dont want my child to be exposed to this kind of content. Also, 3 comprehension qestions dont seem like it is enough. Can you change it to ask more ? Are there other AI powered reading or writing programs?
I didn't find any questionable content when I was testing it. More just very basic stories. I do not believe you can ask for more comprehension questions. If you want your kids to do reading online and you're worried about the content, I highly recommend Lightsail for Homeschool. There are so many parent settings to make sure the content is appropriate for your values and what you don't want your kids exposed to. It's the most extensive parental controls on a reading program that I've ever seen. You could also check out Night Zookeeper which seemed very family friendly to me when testing it.
If you do decide to check this app out, here's the link for the 30 day free trial:

Hello, I just purchased this app, but it’s only allowing AI to read to my child. How do I find the option for my child to read aloud?
I will try it! My child reads at a high school level, but I want to test comprehension. Thanks for the review.
You're welcome, hope it helps!
Appreciate the research as usual!
Thank you!
Thank you for all your research and hard work reviewing these companies!
You're very welcome!

I appreciate this review, are you aware of any apps like this that have a download feature so children can work when the iPad/phone signal is off?
ABC Mouse, reading eggs, hooked on Phonics, maybe prodigy English. Those all have apps you can download so I assume they still work offline.

Thank you for sharing the review very helpful for me

Would you recommend this or Hooked on Phonics for a 5yr old in Kinder just learning to read?
Hooked on Phonics is a more well-rounded learn-to-read curriculum. I would look at this more as a tool to improve reading skills, not necessarily as a tool to build them from scratch.
My kid is in fourth grade and this seems too easy even in advance mode. Thank you for this video!
You are very welcome!
How much longer do you think it will take for you to find my program?
About as long as it takes me to figure out what this means...

Can you do a review of the LUCA Ai program?
Greast suggestion, I'll look into it!
And a review of Reading with Ello?
I don't have one yet but great suggestion!
I wonder if by now , October 2024, the voices are normal, not robotic
I will have to retest it and find out!
Thanks!
You're welcome!
