I love this bag. It's size is perfect and it forces me to be selective in what I carry because I normally over pack. It makes my every day carry, not heavy.
I’ve been using an AMP 12 as my everyday and even for the field as an active duty marine for about a year now and no issues at all. I still love it and there’s very little I would change.
JMHO- I'm not a fan of having a firearm unless it's on my belt or in my hands. I'm an old fart and my 1st line goods stay on me. I'll only stash expendable goods in the ruck in case I have to dump It Thanks for the video
2 major issues w this bag -- the shoulder straps come straight up vertically which prevents them from shaping smoothly over the shoulders -- plus no sternum strap! Even a light pack should have a lightweight sternum strap, it makes a huge difference in movements. I may modify the shoulder straps if I commit to sewing/gluing hypalon. Anyone with a background repairing inflatable boats will help
Nice to see a follow up on a purchase. I've noticed with 5.11 you really only get to use 1/3rd or so of the compartments before everything else is blocked off or over stuffed - but I still generally like the bags. Battalion!
i got this pack and its a well made bag, but not the best organization for EDC. I think its ideal if you need a super trimmed down and slick edc. summer time, moving around alot, you can throw in a light wind/ rain shell, and a few other odds and ends, it works well for that. the main draw back is the lack of side water bottle pockets, or even the ability to ad some molle water bottle pouches. I wish they would have put a few molle straps on the sides so you could add accessory pocuhes there. i will say, If i ever have to do a futuristic cosplay dress up, this will be the pack.
I use the AMP 12 on a daily basis as my work bag and I really love it. But you make a great point with the Shove-it gear set, I keep my Wallet in the CC compartment so it'll be less accessible for me but also harder to reach for pickpockets. That's something I'd have to think about.
I just bought this bag. I think it is very versatile. The CCW pocket sucks as a backpack but it’s designed to be accessed from the sling position. Cause flipped on the side it’s a quick slide of the hand into the pocket once you swing the pack to the front. (Similar to Vertx transit sling)
Good explenation about the points that you don't like. I think if you want better accessibility just go for a bigger version. I think this one is ideal for the summer.
I dont know why you say it blocks the CCW. I got mine fitted with the admin gearset or whatever it's called, the one like the rush series and i aligned it perfectly with the opening of the CCW. No problems at all, and it looks as if it was one piece instead of an extra added to the bag. as for the side pouched, i use them for documents or books, so usually there's no problem neither for accessing them or whatever is in them. The fact they are 2 instead of 1 makes it easy to separate documents, one side for important stuff like paper and such, the other for a book of some kind or a magazine to kill time.
Personally I love my AMP10 I use it mainly for my daily commute, I have additional gear sets (covert panel and Molle) which I keep in one of the front side compartments along with Mechanix gloves and a spare beanie hat in the other, CCW front compartment is for my Kindle as I live in the UK therefore don't benefit from the 2A although I could put either my Glock 17 or 19X Air Pistols in there but isn't worth the risk if I was to get stop and searched, main compartment fits my Chromebook, charger and either a Rain Jacket or a Hoodie with a few other little EDC bits and that's about it. Only downside for me is the compartment for eyewear is too tight for my Oakley sunglasses but it fits my spare pair of normal eyeglasses, initially I was unsure on the durability of the straps but even with regular swapping around they've held up with no signs of fatigue. It is an expensive backpack I paid £127.99 for it but it does the job for me and it's quite versatile plus people say it looks good

Hey, I have exact same bag. And you completely right with regard to 10 vs 12 versions. I also would go for 12 version had I chance back then. I think mentioned it, maybe on your channel that back panel ain't much breatheable, esp.in hot weather.
I got the 10 and dont have these issues in my experience. The ccw compartment is fine for me because my pistol is normally on me, and I only throw it in there for certain circumstances (gym). I also dont have the load problem because I dont over pack my edc gear, or try not to. Normally just have it to carry around extra pocket sized items I dont actually want in my pockets, nothing as big as a laptop either. Good review for putting it through its paces tho, good pack, just not a do all bag
To be fair, storing your CCW in a compartment like that is nonsensical to begin with, so I don't really see the gearset blocking it as the big of a flaw. The bigger flaw is 5.11 marketing that as a CCW pocket in the first place. Also, for whatever it's worth the other gearsets don't block access to it, only the shove-it does. I have the AMP 24 and actually forgot that it even had that "CCW" compartment because it would just never occur to me to think that was a good place to store a weapon. Might be a good pocket for a book or notepad though, or travel documents that you want to keep secure and hidden.

Loved the review. Detailed and to the point at the same time. Awesome. You show a macbook in there. Any chances you'd know if a 15" notebook would fit ?
and here I am spending a whole $10 CDN on a World Famous shoulder bag...does all I need...it isn't fancy..but works for me...add a carabiner on the strap and carry a bottle on the outside...
Was just thinking about your first video you made for this bag looked for the video and this one came up.. glad I watched it before I dropped the money.. what would you recommend if looking for a good sling this size?
I didn't have a single gripe, about the AMP series...until I found out just recently, that they had been discontinued! I've got brand new gearsets, hookloop items, etc... with no further bags, to house them on. Bummer there! Not sure what 5.11 is thinking, but it seems like oversight to me. Too soon (or too late) to wish for a 2.0? 😂
I spent several hundred bucks on multiple AMP series bags and "gearsets" -- in the end I think they kind of suck. Rush series is just so hard to beat for a backpack even if they look way too tactical.
Again the production quality of your video is inspiring me to practice videography. Also, I like the “Napoleon” pocket on my Timbuk2 messenger bag for my CCW.
I have the 5.11 satchel. 6 months in and it's still pretty tough. No complaints except the amount of velcro When opening can be annoying. Just bought the Sieberton Falcon backpack.
Great content as usual. I will be in DFW later this month, are there any good surplus/ gear shops (besides Omaha's) I can check out? Thanks! Batallion!
I've been using the AMP 12 for the past 6 months as my edc and work bag. The ccw is accessible on the 12 no problem. I carry my Glock 20 in there in an owb holster, it has plenty of room for that. The one thing I dont like is the plastic buckles that are attached to the bag are not removable, all gear sets have plastic buckles in the same location so they get bulky because they are stacked. I also don't like that there isn't a port for a water bladder tube from the laptop sleeve. Other than those things the AMP 12 is not too bad.
Actually, they are removable, but they take some work to get off! They have a small split in the back of the buckle that’s covered by the webbing. I was able to take the buckles off my AMP24, but it took a minute
Maybe I've not been in the battalion long enough, and maybe I'm not rough enough on my gear, but my current laptop bag (which is also EDC at events requiring more "stuff" than would fit in my belt pouch) cost me ~$40 and seems pretty sturdy, and has decent zippers on it. Is a smaller $100 bag really that much better? Mine has an external USB port on it, that attaches to a battery bank (not included) inside.
The amp 12 is fantastic pack and has no issues . Number one rule carrying a ccw fire arm in a pack is dumb. If your going to cary then cary on body . Wh
