MikeTheLegend - Yep, it is. But, like all of us, can not a crummy Group A Sooba-barbu hope and dream that one day it might become something greater... It's an aspirational thumbnail. Very modern. Right on. Yay, etc. ;-)
@@scottiusnevious5143 Henri toivonen and his co driver Sergio cresta were killed on the tour de corse in 1986,group b was discounted at the end of that season.
back then if you flew off the road you just got back on it, today in wrc if you get out of bouds even a little something is going to break xD group b was what rallye really is. fun, dangerous, deadly and awesome!
Like in Portugal 1986 when a mother and child got swept away by a RS200? Instantly dead? Rally - Fun - Dangerous : Yes But it should not be deadly. People were stupid standing in the corners waiting for the car to touch them. A child can't decide what is dangerous or not...the parents on the other hand... But yes, I agree. Group B was real rally!
Airborne I know there was some really sad accidents back then, and the reason it was shut down was beacause of that, not only the people on the side of the road was at risk but the deathtoll amongst the drivers where steadily going upwards. that's why I want then to take it back in this modern day and age. the technology in the cars today can handle the forces that they put out much better and the security around rallye as a whole is far more inportant than it was back then :)
Emil Westgaard Henriksen your wrong my friend,if you went off the road then ,you ploughed 100 idiot spaniards or dumb Portuguese over that were crowded on the outside of a corner ,with there children, crazy bastards.cars were awesome ,spectators were fools.sorry but that's the truth !!!

Do you think that, with the creation of safer lightweight materials like carbon fiber and the addition of crowd control barriers, it is possible to recreate another Group B style rally division?
+GreenHornet553 You are right......And there NEVER will be the same adrenaline, the same heart to all of this...In my opinion Motorsport is death...........Safer, Safer, Safer............it's more dangerous to get to the Racetrack :(
AlmightyMalachi - I don't think it'll happen. I remember at the time that the drivers complained that the monster performance just wasn't safe on public roads and - even with pace notes - they were still 10% behind their over-stressed cars, reaction-time-wise. Group B cars were startlingly low-tech in modern terms - real pigs, dogs, donkeys and tractors to drive. It took tremendous courage to push them to the limit (which is why they still arouse so much passion and excitement); but so many wonderful drivers were killed. I suppose that the nearest thing to what you describe would be Rallycross cars, which were/are basically souped-up, lightened Group Bs running on 'safe' mixed surface tracks. Top class Rallycross machines have all the carbon/kevlar stuff you mention + trick diffs, traction control, weird electronics, 800+ bhp engines, and all the other gubbins that still somehow fails to capture hearts and minds like the glorious but terrifying Group Bs. I'm very, very grateful that so much original VHS footage survived long enough to be digitised for UA-cam posterity! Nice question, by the way. :-)
I don't know who is crazier.the drivers or the loony tunes who line the roads.looks exiting though.europeans are just as crazy as we are.must be all those wars theve had.
@@FilaMan74 - Thanks for picking up on that! Micky Mutton (close enough...) was/is a terrific competitor. She put in an awful lot of development work as a test 'pilot' on the early Quattro and did well as a pro Audi works driver. I remember her talking about trying to master left foot braking to keep the awful clunky turbo on song; it was an entirely new skill back then, and she was in at the start. Stig and Hannu, Walter and all the rest of the guys admired her guts and skill. Hard as nails; no quarter asked or given! Happily, plenty of video of her efforts survives, so her place in history (and on UA-cam) is assured. :-)
I'm w o this sport but hooked just the same. One question, why do the spectators stand so close and sometimes even on the track? Haven't seen this in other sports. I should think it would be detrimental to both the fans and the drivers as well. Are the teams responsible should a spectator be hurt during an accident. I love it though when the fans help get the car on its way again. I see some even have staps with them where they hook on a collectively pull the team out of a mishap and get them on their way.
Not entirely sure why but ive been cycling through group b videos for the past week after work.
Yup, saw it once and here i am

Yea you'd think technology had improved in 40 years... or this comment is bs
Also death shouldn't be a cornerstone of any sport, like wtf is that?
Thank you. So beautiful it brings a tear to my eye.
i love group b!! the cars were savages....
constant goose-bumps...
Nice video...its amazing how clear some of that 30yo footage is....
Mytim34 it's amazing isn't it! the same technique is used for digital enhancement on vhs tapes to DVD from back in the day
+Paul sure is! UA-cam is just great for this! I used to have to stockpile Duke VHS videos and thats slow and takes up half a room!!
I sometimes feel like the film used then is better than todays. I don't know, I just seem mesmerized by the semi-bland colors.
