The sound engineer deserves a medal. You know how hard it is to nail a live presentation like this? He caught everything, and the balance is perfect.
Absolutely wonderful
So beautiful and so beautifully played! That flute is magical and has won me! Bravi tutti!
I don't think there is a better illustration of the benefits of working together than a symphony, the many different sounds and skills joining to produce such beauty.
1st. Class production, very great thanks to the camera and directing crew.
Interesting choice here to use solo instruments at the start. The Siegfried Idyll was originally composed a birthday present for his wife Cosima and performed to her on the stairs of their swiss home by a small chamber group of wind and strings. It was only later expanded to full chamber orchestra when Wagner was compelled to publish the piece to ease financial hardship. I believe Runnicles chose to play the opening with solo strings to try and recreate this original iteration of the work, and it's a beautifully tender gesture I haven't seen in many other performances.
This is quite interesting to hear - I recently played the piece as part of a chamber orchestra, and aside from two violins, two horns, and two clarinets there were only one of each instrument - and as far as I'm concerned it sounds just as beautiful with a smaller orchestra as it does a larger, perhaps even more so.
The best interpretation! Using "String quartet" to introduce the main theme really gives the warm, cosy feeling that Richard Wagner wanted to express and then composition becomes majestic as the whole orchestra comes in. It feels as if the whole city is in love.
Immer wieder ein unbeschreiblicher Genuss ❤️
So beautiful theme of Wagner ... what a soul relaly ... many thanks for that .
Elegant and sweet music from Richard Wagner~
Beautiful and brightly played!
This symphony was created for Wagner to his wife has a gift to her. In the Christmas morning she waked with 17 musicians playing to her.
Its so romantic! 💕
Cool Birthday present, a musical piece for the ages! Today, a wife would be lucky to get a twenty-five dollar gift certificate from "Best Buys"
This is the best version of this music! Beautifully played! Awesome recording!
Certamente tra i più belli brani musicali di tutti i tempi!
Magari questa esecuzione non è memorabile...
Such beautiful solo playing when required from every last one Always been a fan of the BBC SSO
Wagner never intended this version for publication or public performance. The expanded version from several years later is better in the concert hall - in my humble opinion.
I believe this IS the version. I've sheet music to GOULD'S piano arrangement. Johnny A
Thank you so much for these wonderful features - I had no idea they were all here.
A thoughtful and moving interpretation.
Great performance! Thank you for sharing this.
Just beautiful!!! Practically the bond between Wagner and the Second Viennese School..Schoenberg et all.
Que maravillosas sensaciones provoca esto!
Beautiful piece
4:52 First time oboe really gets shown off. Seriously, her sound is beautiful
we are in te very realm of the ROMANTICISM
This is a very good performance of the work.
WAGNER, UN GENIO!
Can you imagine being Richard Wagner's daughter and waking up on your Birthday morning and walking out of your room and assembled before you are a small orchestra playing "Siegfried Idyll"? That is what her father did!
I’d love to be able to meet up in a room with Wagner, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Bernard Herrmann, The Beatles, Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye and regularly play each other’s music and songs, for us all to listen to and then talk about.
Imagine the wonderful discussions as everybody talked about this piece alone, for example
Well-sounding performance.
QUE MARAVILLA LA MÚSICA DE WAGNER
Genius of Richard Wagner!
MUSICA MARAVILLOSA - SALUDOS DE LIMA PERU
Magical
Bravó!!!
Wonderful conductor, great orchestra. Final chord: Mr Runnicles seems a bit unhappy during the decrescendo :-)
Wagner:inmejorable, inigualable, único. Lo máximo del romanticismo.
Wells Cathedral School Showcase Concert on Saturday 4 May 2019
Thomas Nettle (conductor)
Springtime highlights from the School’s specialist musicians’ performance programme, including a rare chance to hear Wagner’s ultra-romantic Siegfried Idyll @t
切ない。昔、昔の大切な記憶の中の音楽って感じ。
Concert masters name please . His sound is very beautifully!
I like this gently and not centralized one of Wargnel`s.
Cute blonde at 8:46. The sound engineers of these Proms concerts do a good job.
Too bad, there's a guitar -like thingy that obstructs the view of her cleavage.
Strikingly good recording in my opinion
Gute Interpretation, manchmal etwas kühl aber immer sehr stimmig - Bravo !!!
Perfect ultra mega
Great performance, great video! but... I still prefer the chamber music version. I feel the orchestrated version lacks the intimacy of individual instruments. But of course this is just my personal opinion, in no way am I detracting from this marvelous performance :)
fascinating
Wagner ist Wagner.Unvergleichlich schön.
What beautiful shower music
Fun fact; the first time I heard this I thought this piece was gross but now upon hearing it again I think it's really pretty.
I think the tempo is not bad, it has a special touch indeed. But I like better Knappertsbusch versions.
I require more trumpet. :(
Could someone give me background on this oboist? I am really loving her sound
Well, yeah! It's really a very organic, very silky kind of oboe voice that grabbed my attention. It's really pleasing to listen to, and the voice is really engaging as far as the wise use of vibrato and tone I could best describe as real creamy. It's nice
I was just interested how she as a younger musician developed that. I'm sorry if you feel I missed any other certain quality in her from the recording...? It is just a recording, not much else I can judge upon
Sabrii Anderson the principal oboe of the BBC Scottish is Stella McCracken
What is the name of the flutist? Her sound is soo beautiful!!!
Noctis Yue the flutist (or flautist as we tend to say in the UK) is Rosemary Elliot, who actually retired from playing a couple of years ago. A fabulous player!
Nice to see Brian Cox taking a break from acting.....
I don’t like Wagner but it’s exception .
needs more work at the beginning, and needs to be slower..
Anyone that has complained that this interpretation is too fast needs to understand that originally, Wagner did not intend to have people perform his dedication to his son as slowly as some other chamber orchestras have aimed to do. So I would understand if other listeners would prefer that it were slower, but to assert yourself to say that the first intent of the music was to be performed slower is not right.
Where is the idyll at this music?
10:41 Lebhaft
Primo violino piagnucoloso
Mein Gott, wie kann man so einfachen Stück so unmusikalisch machen?????!!!!
At 9:12, Williams created his Superman main theme . John Williams just ripped it off!
JW took the Superman theme from the opening of Thus Spake Zarathustra ( Man and Superman ) by Richard Strauss . He just reversed the pitches ! How do I know ?
Because he told me .
The conductor probably didn't know it was composed to Cosima's birthday - I hear zero intimacy in their playing , he doesn't let soloists express themselves .The middle episode ( starts from 9:53) is played like a German march and in general he played the whole piece with the same facial exrpession. How is it possible ?
Listen to Gergiev with Munich Philarmonic , those guys really have it.
Overblown, histrionic..
S2 Wagner
The tempo is too fast. Ruines the whole piece :(
I'm sorry you went to all the effort of clicking this video. Rest In Peace.
people who caugh in the last minute has no sensibility for arts.
Ein wunderbares Stück. Warum der Dirigent allerdings so flüchtig über Wagners Noten stürmt, bleibt sein Geheimnis. Für mich absolut keine angemessene Interpretation. Schade.
Excuse me... Are you Jewish?
Einfach nur schrecklich durchgehackt, schade.
These melodies are beyond this world.
yehehahahaaa!
