For a majority of my childhood I was left alone at home. I would hide under my covers because I would hear people knocking at the back and front door. I’d look out the window and I have seen a group of men or a old man. This has happened at least 50 times over the 10 years I lived there. I never called the police because they left after knocking for awhile. Sometimes I never found out who they were, but other times I learned it was workers my mom hired without telling me. Scared me so bad though. My mom has a lot of mental issues and didn’t consider it not okay to have a 12 year old girl answer the door for a strange man and then let him in the house while they are there alone. I’m just proud of myself for never answering. No matter what. I was thankfully taught about stranger danger 😂

My fam has a ring and my dad is about 62 years old. He left to work part time one night and when he gets to work, he saw someone on the ring doorbell. It was some big black dude with a coat on staring at the house and then walking out of view. He told my mom to get a gun and close all the blinds. When we were finally all together, we looked at the footage and it turned out it was his dumbass leaving for work 🤦♂️

An easy way to see if someone really needs help is to tell them you are calling the police. Their reaction to hearing this will let you know if what they are saying is true or not. I remember back when I was in middle school someone came knocking on our door in the middle of the night saying that they needed help. We never opened the door, we just told them we will call the police to help them. When we said this they started to panic before taking off. We lived on the top floor in our apartment so it was shocking that the attempted this with us.

I have a ring doorbell and any slight movements at my door, even if a fly flies by it, I get a notification sent to my phone saying there was motion at my door. It gets annoying sometimes but I know the reason it does it, is to keep me safe.

I’m from Australia and this stuff is a lot more rare, especially the get the person tk open the door and then bum rush them. In Australia it is very standard to have “fly wire” doors which are literally security doors. So you can open your main door to see but still have the layer of protection and most of them are made of metal so pretty hard to kick in. Not only that guns are so rare that even most criminals don’t even have them

My hubby used to be really bad at locking the door and still is some what. And he gets frustrated that I lock especially when he’s bringing shit into bsmnt workshop. I HATE waking up to find the door unlocked. It didn’t bother me as much when had HUGE German Shepherds!
Funny side note: my son was 4 when he met the dog. The dog immediately became protective of him. The dog would constantly try to heard him into a room with an adult AND we couldn’t rough house bc the dog would freak out. When my son was 7 (can’t remember what he did wrong) I took my son into the bedroom and bc my voice was harsh and slightly raised, the dog lost his fckng mind! Barking and scratching at the door to “save him” but the funny thing is that that upset my son even more.
