Probably my favorite out of the entire series. What a gorgeous looking game for the SNES. A lot of people complain that this isn't the original Turrican II, as released on the Amiga, C64 etc. That's right, it's not the same game. It's SUPER Turrican II, an entirely different game. But....why the hell would anyone complain about having an extra Turrican game? They're great games, and frankly I'd like to have some more! 🤷🏻♂️
sorry for the necro… it feels like a impressive technical demo, but with gimmicky weapons and really bad sounds & music compared to the original. I can’t see any of the soul that Chris‘ music gave the Amiga version.
This isn't Mega Man X5, the series ended on a strong note even if several qualities weren't on par with titles previous to it, and some of the music is right up there with the best@@Robert-G
This game is honestly a techinical showpiece for the (chipless) SNES, with it using basically every technique the console can produce very effectively, with also a lot of multi joined sprites like the craziest Genesis action games from Konami or Trasure, and with a mostly rock solid framerate.
@@mk6315 Love that you describe it as a "cool factor". Drop in framerate meant cool slow-mo-like scenes. Metal Slug is full of it. Kids these days talk like straining a processor to its absolute limits is a bad thing..
Turrican. A fantastic, yet underrated series in the United States. Very sad too, for this is one of my most favorite games ever, and was one to redefine scrolling shooters.
This is awesome! I miss Factor 5, they came up with some amazing Turrican games. You can tell that they left nothing on the table with Suoer Turrican 2, always one thrilling action set-piece after another. If I recall, it took a while before a publisher picked up this title. I can’t remember why, but it did languish for a while before being released in the US.
Turrican's 2nd entry on Super Nintendo and the last Turrican game ever released Super Turrican 2 takes the turrican design into a different area, rather than focusing on large areas full of secrets and gems scattered everywhere, every level is much more linear and shorter than the early entries, focusing only in action and many "gimmick" elements (racing or shoot'em up, etc). The presentation is incredible with animated cutscenes that look amazing and a dark envrioment which fits like a glove . The music quality is inferior compared to the previous entry(ies), it is still as good but here sounds a little compressed except the voices. Regardless of that the game plays very well, the action is well done, satisfying and flows perfectly; loads of explosions and never slows down (except when you use a bomb); This game should be used as an example of how to properly use the snes hardware in many creative ways.
Holy smoke! I've never watched or heard this game before. These guys got everything out of the SNES. A lot like how RARE got everything out of it on the DKC Trilogy. They should make a SNES Classic #2 with 25 games for $100 & include this on it. This sounds better than many games on systems a generation after it.
I just finished this game around midnight, overall its great as Turrican's final game despite its awkward moments and differences from the other Turrican games. My favorite moment has to be when the firework sends Bren to the Space spider just for how surreal it was to me! I was going to get this game for Christmas but we somehow missed a copy that sold for £20! The other copies range from £50-200 on eBay!
and this one was the last turrican .... and after few years tried the developers to make a 3d turrican on the pc but the project fails and was canceled because they didnt has enough money to finish this project . its really a shame that an awesome series was finished by a canceled game . we will never see a sequel of this franchise anymore because all developers doesnt have any interrest on this franchise . Rest in peace , Turrican .... T-T
I would say that it's a shift in style towards a more "cineastic" approach in video game music. Although there are still some tunes in this game which resemble the earlier style. Just listen to : 15:54
It's crazy that it took a European game developer to push a Japanese console to it's limits without a chip in the cartridge. This is mind blowing seeing what the base SNES was capable of in the right hands. Capcom, Square and Konami should have took notes.
@@josuecalderon2683 Hay una rendición del Rendering Ranger para la SNES americana, también una edición premium, están más baratas que la japonesa que es inconseguible.
Who cares if it feels unlike the other Turricans and more like a Contra? I just want to play great games, and this is a great game with an excellent gameplay and an amazing soundtrack. I prefer this one way more than Super Turrican. At least we don't have to bear with bullshit like pixel near jumps or falling very far back for whatever reason.
I would have bought this in a second If I knew it existed in the 90's, I got a SNES late. Played Turrican 1 and 2 on the C64 and they were the best games on it, just about. Though the sound on C64 was so much better. Consoles should have stuck to synth rather then wave table.
@johannbock: Because only the first Turricans (1+2) were designed by Manfred Trenz, the other ones are just Factor 5's / Kaiko's idea of a Turrican game.
I wish the music was a lot better in this. People don't realize how much a driving tune makes you want to keep going through levels like these. Otherwise, solid game.
Remember playing it for the first time and I was very disappointed. I was a big turrican fan and played all versions a could get back then and this one just doesn't felt like a turrican. Anyway, I gave it a second try years later and I have to admit that it is a good game and fun to play. But still it is no real epic turrican like it was on Amiga, Genesis, C64, PC-Engine and even on MS-DOS.
I think you got one timestamp wrong: the choice between the Diamond and the 1up seems to be at 48:07, not 46:07. Anyway, this game may not be as good as the other Turricans, but it's nice to have a run up to the same standard as the other games on this account.
I just started playing this game and i'd say its great Super Turrican's awesome and all but the one thing i hate about this game is the grappling hook. garrrgh its quite hard to master the grappling hook though but overall, i love it
I prefer the first SNES game... it had much better sound effects (quite important), better music and larger levels for exploration... the second game has it's charms, the grappling arm is cool but and yes it's a longer game but the extra time is mostly for gimmicky vehicle levels which are quite mediocre... I give the first game an 7.5/10 (hopefully a ROM of the director's cut comes out) and the second one 7.0/10
Unfortunately this one was more like an arcade game (it's more a Probotector 'clone' than a real Turrican). The old Turrican games (1+2) by Manfred Trenz were more about exploring and 'mood', I prefer them. Also this game has not really a soundtrack, the last soundtrack for Turrican games Chris Hülebeck developed was for Super/Mega Turrican (and Amiga conversation Turrican 3), this one has basically just the awesome end(credits)-track as a 'real tune' -the rest 'only' is more like sound support.
