A parent who would kick their child out for any reason, and say; "your not my son", doesn't deserve to be a parent. And to be violent towards that child because they are gay, speaks volumes as to what kind of person they are. For me, it would be the last day they ever saw me, and heard from me ever again. If a person, such as this woman, has so little compassion for their flesh and blood, they are an evil, hateful person.

As a mother of a gay daughter, who came out at 17 though of course l always knew. I can not Imagine, what goes on in parents minds when they act like this. I know it happens but for the life of me, I can’t understand it. Nothing and l mean nothing! Any one of my kids could ever do, that could make me wanna push them away. Or love them any less. She will always be the same amazing human being she always was. Who she loves by no means diminishes her value on my life. Much less something as trivial (in the grand scheme of things) as who she chooses to love.

This was a good movie and the actors were very nice. The boyfriend calling the young guy Prety Boy is handsome. The mother was understandable but his sister I think knew it already about her brother!! Again, very nice movie. Thank you for sharing this situation which happens many times with families finding out about their son or daughter.

Thank God he had somewhere to turn, and a sister to turn to. So many young guys don’t. Can there be a bigger parental failure than hating your son for who he is born to be?

It makes me sick when parents react like this when their children tell them they are attracted to the same sex, THAT SHOULDN'T MATTER, theres a heck of alot worse stuff in life that your kid can come tell you other than that, I was raised that love is love and we treat everyone equally, and thats exactly what ive done in life and ive raised my children to think and feel the same way..Imagine the courage it takes to be honest with their parents just for them to be rejected, slapped and called names when they need the support of their mother more than ever!!!

I am a gay father of three. Two of them were boys that went through some 'stuff' not atypical in modern America. The problem with some of the comments below is that they act react as though time stopped for this mother when he walked out. It did not. She will replay this scene over and over and over again, for the rest of her life. Every parent remembers that one triggered day, when he or she was the very worst parent. Its hold's a scene full of rage, selfishness, desperation and impotence and it is UGLY. The point is to try to rebuild passed that horrible scene, that low point in one's parenting. We don't know what happened in the coming weeks, months, years. Maybe pretty boy had to build a life without her. Maybe, she took a series of baby steps passed her homophobia, and towards him. Coming out process, on one side or the other, inevitably often involves some forgiveness of self and others. She has to do the heavy lifting here, but she may be up to the task.

I'm sorry, the mother having difficulty adjusting to the the new reality of her son's orientation is one thing, but putting his life at risk by kicking him out of the house is inexcusable. Declaring that he is no longer her son is just as bad. She may redeem herself in the future, but the damage is done and their relationship can never be the same nor as trusting and loving. Too many go through this ordeal, but they don't have other family to help and they end up on the streets and become easy victims of crime, human trafficking, drugs and dangerous sex work. Even if they survive, they will have trust issues in all of their relationships and friendships for the rest of their lives.

This is a beautiful film; thank you for sharing. It’s easy to judge the mother: we have none of her back story. It’s worth remembering that the first reaction of parents is not always their last.

@@dobdante yep, deffo. Think I remember YoouTuber DanielXMiller telling us his real story, how he was thrown away by his parents at 15. Then we have movies like Love,Simon, where his dad offers to join Grindr with his son ! - many times it's a father thing tho - their mental image of what their son is doing in bed with a guy - they cant handle that image or what they fear their pals will say about his son.

Mom is only concerned about what "others" will think of HER.... Young lad was smart to leave, and hopefully one day she will come back to him, on HIS terms. Life goes on without a "loving" parent who self-destructs themselves with cigarettes and what ever else..... I'm no saint, but smoking inside your home with your kids.... just a stupid, self-consumed parent.... other than that, a good short, which ends happy. Live your life for YOU. Be yourself.

Maybe ONE person will decided, this is how my parent/s will react, Life isn't worth living - and take their own life..

This story shows the reality. Sometimes you need to step out of your fictional thoughts. If you try to hide the reality with fantasy, then that story is not worth to watch. Every story has its message. It depends on viewers how they take it.

homie, this is the fucking reality. when i went to pride this year, after i came home my father slammed me against the wall and started threatening me and telling me he'll kill me, i couldnt do anything. and that was all because i went to pride, not even because i came out to him. if i had come out to him, hed kick me out or beat me to death. this is the reality for some of us

The two young men are mistreated at the bar, and his mother kicks her son out of the house. We see how this abuses two gay men who are presented as likable. They are obviously the good guys and the victim of other people's prejudice. I doubt that most homophobes will watch this film, or they'll stop when they realize it's a pro-gay story. There's nothing ON the creators and participants in this film. The film is a sympathetic slice of life as it still unfolds in many places. The message is that you need to be yourself, even if a parent throws you out of the house. Of course, you need to be ready before you take that step.
