The Panzer III was always considered a medium tank and was used in that role for its entire career until the end when it was used as an infantry support tank,(not a light tank) for the Heavy Panzer battalions. Which was the role that the Panzer IV was created for originally.
Panzer 3 for me because it came in the afrika korps starter set.... As the set also came with a flak88 I decide to go for HE rather than PEN and build a Panzer 3N minus the side skirts because it was rare in the desert and who wants to fiddle with that modelling task.
Sadly I only got 3 types that are based off of these that is the Stug III Ausf G/ StuH 42, SIG 33B, and the Brummbar. No Pz III or IV's and have no plans to add them as I am liking my SD Kfz 251/21 Drilling more and more as it basically says : Infantry nice squashy things that go splat when multiple HE rounds lands on them. Fact is I am liking AAA vehicles more and more in the game as they dish out a whole lot of dice rolls per firing at a target.

Panzer IV all the way. Though I like most of the panzers if I’m honest. That one was my first panzer and it is a trusty friend.
PZ4G or PZ3J are all you need from mid war onwards as a Axis force that has access to them
They are cheap, has good anti armour (don't need more then medium) and good frontal armour.

Or Pzr III G for 45 points less but at 8+... really depends on what you're thinking about taking...
