I lived in Florida 1986 to 1993. I left only because my parents were living in MS and were in poor health and needed me. They moved to MS when I was 19 in 1993. Once you live in FL, you never get it out of your system. I was terribly homesick for FL for over 10 years. I had made arrangements to move back in 2020, but those plans fell apart, though aren't dead.

Jose, I live in Fort Myers, not far from Palm Beach Blvd. in a senior building area that is very safe. I'm obviously retired & originally from Maine. What I appreciate is the sunshine & lack of depressing cold, wet, gloomy weather of the north. Not a small thing. One thing you have going for you is you're here & familiar somewhat with the area. You've done the hard part of moving. Try & appreciate the fact you have the advantage of feeling somewhat comfortable. Use that time to explore how you can find something you enjoy doing that will be financially rewarding. Think outside the box. What does the area need that it lacks? Get a regular job in the meanwhile to pay bills. Ask people from the north what they miss from home & wish were here. Food, services, entertainment, etc. Make the decision to stay here. You're not getting younger, so look around & find a niche for yourself. You can do it.

I have lived in Ft. Myers for more than 40 years, most of which has been on the East side of town. I started with nothing and worked my ass off and made a great life here. If Michigan in a cold cabin in the woods with a fire is your desire, your in the wrong place. With that said, I remember being young and trying to decide what to do, if what I was doing was the right thing. Truth to me, if you hustle you win. I have the advantage of having been here when it was inexpensive to buy a home. I can see starting here with the cost of housing etc., but to me it has been the best life. Never say Jose that its not available to you, don't limit yourself, your one idea, one job, one something away from having everything. Stay and make it work for you.

I agree, so we do what humans do best and adapt. If your smart enough to have people watching your videos, and articulate enough where they come back, maybe you just haven't realized your potential. I started life in the projects, that abject poverty became my fuel to be more, have more, I didn't stop until I made progress, and built in it. In doing so I got knocked on my ass, because in many cases my upbringing made me not understand some things. It's in there I think, you just need to find it, I think you will.

Your story mirrors my own, even down to buying two brand new vehicles when we moved here (One being a 22 black Chevy truck almost exactly like yours that I purchased at Estero Bay) My wife and I moved down here last August from up in the mid Atlantic region of the U.S. because we used to vacation here and enjoy it so much. I'm about 20 miles from where you are and my sentiments are exactly the same. I'm just not achieving that level of happiness I thought I would find here. It's actually boring compared to the lifestyle I was used to be living.

Florida will be just fine for you guys, I can assure you...Going to any other state would be very hard for a Florida person...You would never be at home and the "Homesickness" will consume you...It's always been expensive to live here...My husband and I both worked and in 28 years only took 3 vacations to Disney because we had kids that would CRY for a small getaway...Parks, beaches, parties, skating ring, bowling, movies...Those were the things we could afford for them and not all that often...But we were home and being close to family was priceless...We made it...Well, I made it, because cancer took him too early...If all my family would have lived in Illinois or Michigan or Wisconsin, I probably would have stayed there...But, it gets too depressing when you don't see the sun for months and you are locked up at home, because it's too cold to go out...I need more than just a few "Indian Summer" days, to keep my spirit in check...Besides, my family works all year to come down to see family twice a year and blow all that saved money in a few days...I think that is insane and useless...They kill themselves all year to vacation where I live year round...It's like I'm on their vacation all year and it costs the same amount of sacrifices...When Katie gets her real estate license and you get some little job you like, it will start to add up your bank account again...Right now you are using your savings, because you don't have steady incomes coming in...Once some regular income starts rolling in, it will start to add up again...Life has it's ups and downs and we just have to swim through them...Even at my age I have to paddle hard sometimes, with a ton of resilience and patience...The more you have, the more you have to worry about...I'm trying to get my estate in check and the lawyers are eating me up...We live 6 under one roof and it gets hectic sometimes...But, that's life and you just have to keep making the best of it...The grass will always look greener on the other side, until you cross that street...Home is home and there's no place like HOME...Where ever that may be...Just ask Dad...Bechitos... 🥰❤

I am Florida born and raised and yes it is expensive here so I figure in order to make it I simply have to make the money to afford a better life. I turn 65 this month and I'm planning to pack up and leave this rural trailer park and move to Orlando with my Social Security, about 8000 bucks and a dream of becoming a successful author, novelist and screenwriter. I've never been married, no kids and no close family. Just me and I don't need much to live on. I've been studying all kinds of side hustles and ways to make money. Jose, have you looked into investments like cryptocurrency or stocks? My ultimate goal is an apartment in downtown Orlando and failure is NOT an option! If I can pull in 7 to 10 grand a month I could live like a king. So I need to buckle down and turn out that best selling novel or screenplay. Wish you all the best Jose and Katie and remember this: If an old fart like me can go all out chasing a dream you youngsters should have no worries.

I bought our home in Alva in 12, when prices were dirt cheap, for a winter home, and retired down here in 17. I tell people that you need to have money to move to FL. If you are coming here to make money it's going to be hard. Coming from the Midwest, small town, and a construction background, I can tell you this. There are a lot of places, you can do a LOT better, especially when you are young than FL.
The trouble with "paradise" is everyone wants to be here and are willing to sacrifice a living wage to try. But, it is glorious here in the winter. :)

I built my house in Lehigh back in 1997 when things were affordable. I have been lucky as far as a job as I landed a good one back in 1997 and still have it today. I have seen a lot of changes and I too dream of a cabin in the woods. I came here from Ohio back in the late 80's so I know cold. I would love the live in Michigan but fear the exact same things as you do. I just do not like the cold and it is really cold in Michigan. I do not like what Lehigh is turning into. I will stick it out as long as I can because I have a great job here but I am looking elsewhere to spend my future. South Carolina has become a favorite place for us to go on vacation and as an avid fisherman and hunter that state works for me. The climate is a lot more mild there and I think I will be able to tolerate it. I understand your plight and if I was you I think I would cut my losses here. Buckingham is a nice area but Palm Beach Blvd hasn't been safe since the late 90's. Housing prices are at a premium now, my realtor said that in three years from now prices will check back to where they are affordable. Do yourself a favor before you move to somewhere cold. Go there and spend a week in December, you will find out real quick if that is where you want to move. The second time is you need to make time to go do the things you used to do like fishing. Doing that will help you to shed some stress and get a better perspective on things.

The Gulf coast town center is only 15 minutes from Buckingham. There are a ton of restaurants in the Fort Myers area, not in East Fort Myers though. Palm Beach Blvd area, East Fort Myers is the poorest and worst part of Fort Myers. I used to live there in Southwest Florida.....Not a good place to open a blue collar business, a lot of cheap labor in that area! Everyone wants to be the cheapest. Don’t stay there if it makes you miserable, it looks miserable with all those half finished houses. Sarasota is really nice. Try another part of Florida

This is a poor review. Sounds like you’re just in a depressive state because of your economic situation. Ask yourself this; if you were thriving finically would your review have been as negative? The lack of infrastructure is that way all across sw Florida. If you listen to what you say I’m this you’re not reviewing Fort Meyers you’re reflecting on the negative things happening in your life. I think you should slow down. Enjoy the little things in life like your family and the fact that you even have them. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on material things, fancy restaurants, luxurious vacations to enjoy life. You’re just living above your means. I like your channel but I don’t think this was a fair review of Fort Meyers. Just a venting session for you

UA-camr Graham Stephan is a good example how to live below your means. The guy is a multimillionaire, and he makes his own coffee at home that cost him $25 cents. You need to learn the habits of wealthy people, not poor people trying to look rich! 🙄 A meal at a nice restaurant would cost at minimum 100 bucks, right. That same 100 bucks can buy groceries for an entire week! But, people don’t want to cook. They want to plop down their asses at restaurants, and wonder why they have no money!
