The first story. The cat is probably panting due to anxiety and the events after it left the cat carrier probably gave it a heart attack. Poor cat. Cats don't pant like dogs for heat they pant for anxiety.

@@withinseven1762 the cat was panting because of stress. According to my research and experience as a cat owners, cats can actually hold up pretty well in the heat because of the fur (ironically). And I know from experience that putting a cat next to an air current is going to stress it out (my cats have always walked WAY around the stream of air flowing from fans). Honestly the best thing she could’ve done for the cat is probably to keep it in it’s carrier and try to help it feel secure. The cat probably didn’t like the motion of the plane, since their ears are more sensitive to the motion. Poor thing… and it sounded like such a sweet floofer……
Life lesson: learn what stresses your pets and how to recognize when they are stressed. Try to avoid stressing your pet if possible, and if not, work beforehand to find ways to make the experience less stressful or perhaps even positive.

Story 25: The stinky pervert probably should have spent the entire flight in the bathroom. The plane has multiple bathrooms, and using one of them as a designated seat probably would have been preferable to him repeatedly stinking up the entire aisle between his assigned seat and the bathroom. Plus, if he stays in the bathroom, he can (NSFW) as much as he wants with his magazines. It's a win-win.

As an attempt to counter all the horror we've just witnessed, I'll note down a rather uneventful but wholesome flight experience I had:
One time I had to travel internationally alone at the age of 13~14, and I remember feeling utterly awful that day (hadn't slept for 30hr+ at that point and was on the beginning of my period, which usually causes intense cramps-I was in PAIN). There was an underaged travel protection agent to accompany me through airport procedures, but my assigned seat on the plane once alone happened to be next to a man in his 30's. Maybe I was just uncomfortable with the idea of being in the window seat next to an adult male stranger given my past experiences, but something really did feel inexplicably...off. I was too timid to say/do anything up until the plane had already taken off. At one point I decided to conjure up the courage to excuse myself past the man to "go use the bathroom", and I conveyed my discomfort to a stewardess. She was very and understanding and proceeded to quietly travel down the aisle whispering to whoever I assumed to be solo passengers. Soon I saw a businessman nod and start moving towards my original seat, and I was guided to a seat next to an elderly couple. I couldn't thank the stewardess and businessman enough. I remember the elderly woman next to me being very soft-spoken and comforting me about my period cramps, telling stories of her own family and how it's normal that everyone would experience different levels of physical reactions, etc. and that I was right to be cautious when travelling alone.
It's been about 10 years since then, but I still remember that day vividly. I hope everyone who was kind to me that day is living a good life.

I was on one of those rather empty flights several years (actually more that 20 years OMG I'm old) ago. After we started the flight attentand told us that we could spread out in the plane and find seats as we wished as there were plenty. So people were actually lieing alongside entire seatrows to sleep while a group of kids - apparantly a schoolclass being on a trip or something like that gathered in 2 empty middle rows of seating to play cards all together. My family was also spreading out and occupied an entire row - both sides and the middle row for just four people and despite all of that that still was more than enough room for everybody.

In the '90s, I was in a turbo prop that was caught in the backwash from a 737 (this was a year before they realised that the turbulence from those things was the equivalent of a larger plane which caused the Amsterdam air crash). On takeoff, the plane suddenly shook and then behaved exactly like you'd expect several tons of metal to behave a few hundred feet in the air. It was absolutely silent. No screams, no panic, no jiggling boobs. I looked around and caught the eye of a girl in the next row and we just shrugged and waited for the inevitable. Fortunately, the pilot veered off the flight path and things settled down before he explained what had happened. Good guy.

10:00 That's not just a 3+ hour delay, that's a bunch of missed connections, rebookings, refunds, hotel rooms and such that the airline is financially on the hook for. Also delays to the airplane's next flight, the captain and first officers' next flights and the FAs' next flights. As many as four additional flights delayed.
    Denver mechanics must be expensive.

I know the feeling. I lost my Exotic (shorter-haired Persian -type, extremely flat-faced) to breathing issues 3 months ago. After a few days of being meek and breathing heavier, he was panting and drooling suddenly, in pain and all... His heart wasn't sounding ok either, according to the vet. Had to let him go, his airways were so narrow, and his nostrils were slits... When I heard the words Persian and panting... I knew where it was going.

I was on a flight between Oregon and California. There were three seats across and I was in the window seat. There was a young man in the middle seat and a young woman in the aisle seat. The young man had been drinking throughout the flight and eventually he got up to use the bathroom. He was in there long enough that the young woman scooted over next to me and asked if I thought that he was okay since he had been gone for so long. Just then, the steward came up and got a backpack out from the overhead. He took it back to the bathroom and gave it to the young man. A few minutes later, the young man came out and sat in the aisle seat, he was now wearing different clothes. The plane landed and everyone got up and started to grab their bags to get off when two huge air marshalls got on the plane and ordered everyone to get back in their seats. Everyone sat back down. The young man ended up in the window seat with the young woman and I in the middle and aisle seats. The air marshalls pointed at the young woman and I and ordered us to get up and back up the aisle. Then, they went in and arrested the young man. We asked the steward about it after everything was over and he told us that the young man had been so drunk that when he went to the bathroom, he had urinated all over himself and all over the bathroom so when we landed, he was arrested for interfering with a flight.

Flying from New Orleans to LAX during the pandemic a lady took off her mask and refused to put it back on. Another passenger complained and she threw her cup at him. To make things worse her toddler was running up and down the aisle and kept coming up behind my chair and touching me. She was on her phone for most of the flight ignoring him. The moment we landed LA PD arrested her, and she kept screaming "I've done nothing wrong" in front of her kid. When I went to baggage claim I saw an SUV that said US Marshalls. There was also an unmarked white van with a lady loading the toddler into it. I deduced that the lady was arrested, taken into custody by the Feds, and CPS took her kid. A month later I got a call from a federal prosecutor. I have them a statement and from what I gather she's currently in federal prison.

Not a WTF moment at all but definitely my funniest travel experience on an airplane so far.
In 2022, I was coming back from Iowa and I had a connection in Denver.
I was flying Southwest and they have open seating so basically you can sit anywhere. And me being visually impaired, I pre boarded so I got first dibs. So I chose a seat about three rows back so I could look back on the engine and the wing. We were about halfway boarded and people were slowing down and trying to find the best seats that were still left.
A flight attendant gets on the PA and says
"we are mostly down two middle seats so please take the first available seats so we can get out on time".
Me being a comedian, I stood up and I responded with
"Last I checked, it is Southwest policy that the last passenger to be seated has to purchase drinks for everyone onboard".
Everyone breaks out in laughter and someone at the front of the plane responded
    "I believe so."
And this just results in everyone on the plane laughing even harder.

Last fall, my parents and i went on a cruise leaving from Miami. On the way down, we had a layover in Atlanta and before it I was sitting next to a couple teens that decided to take off their shoes while my dad sat next to a family with 3 younger kids (8-14ish, all well behaved and the youngest was adorable as heck). After the layover we got the old switcharoo and I got the family while he got the fungus friends. On the way back, admittedly this isnt during the flight but at the securitycheckpoint, but we saw a group of 3-4 people push through the security line just before the metal detector and when everybody reacted they pulled the "we're all going to the same place" excuse. Scary thing, for me, was they were wearing my home sports team merchandise so i knew we were likely on the same flight and "who knows what someone could do if they were willing to push through security." Regardless of where they were going, jokes kind of on them because we still wound up getting ahead of them after security and, we weren't going anywhere anytime soon. We were on the same flight and my family and I had time to get something to eat.
On another trip, we also got held up on the runway. What for? Terrorists? No. Sudden technical issues? No. One of the flight attendants broke a coffee pot. Yes, a f*king coffee pot.
Ironic part of both stories, they're both from Florida to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

I experienced some of the worst pain in my life on a recent plane trip back home. About halfway into the flight, the front right part of my top jaw went completely numb, then a few moments later started hurting, worse and worse as time went on till I was in extreme pain. The crew called on the PA for a doctor who talked to me but couldn’t figure out what was causing it, so the paramedics were arranged to meet the plane on the ground. I was in extreme pain, until the plane descended, then the pain faded and I regained feeling in my jaw. The plane was held up, no one deplaning until the paramedics were sorted, where me and my family left last once everyone was allowed to go. Talked to the crew and paramedics, apologised, and explained I was fine now.
Went to the doctor a week or so later to talk about it properly, and I was told there’s two major nerves that go along the sides of the face, and that’s likely where the pain came from. The pain was certainly pressure-related, still didn’t know the cause, but the doctor told me any pain in that nerve is some of the worst pain anyone can ever feel, only beaten by - and a similar pain to - childbirth. I’m thankful I have a high pain tolerance but it HURT.

I need opinions on this WTF moment of mine.
I was on 6.5 hour flight and happened to get a place with kids all around me - front, neighbour sit and sits on left. They behaved well and turned out to be, all 6 of them, from one family. Their mom had not a second to herself as the younger kids were no more than 3 and 5 and the oldest was may be 8. I was impressed and sad at the same time because kids seemed VERY well cared for, loved, happy, but the mom was unmistakably exhausted to her very core. Non the less, watching them enjoy their flight, talk about clouds, softly laugh and exchange candy warmed my heart. At one point one of younger girls broke her barbie's crown and her older brother came up with like 12 ways to use the crown anyways and a story to how barbie is still a princess. I thought i would melt into my seat))
    So, to the WTF moment.
As our plane started to land, the mom checked all her kids seat belts and then turned to the oldest kid and told him "Wake your dad up".
There was a dad there somewhere. All. That. Time.
"Dad" turned out to be a middle aged man whom i didn't even notice much and to whom kids payed zero attention to. He did not as much as look at his own kids for 6 hours, but Instead watched a PG18 tv show on plane tv for around 5 hours untill falling asleep right before landing.
The rest of the family formed sort of their own happy bubble during a flight and dad was not a part of it.
He acted and looked a total stranger. I was sure he was just a random dude.
It also bothered me how normal this behaviour was for kids. It was like dad didn't exist untill mom reminded them he was right there. By the way, the oldest kid looked very happy when he got to talk to his dad.
"Dad" opened his eyes, asked the oldest son "did you have a good flight?", took his bag and stood up. He didn't help kids take their bags down or collect toys. When dad offered his hand to tne of the kids, the kid blinked for a secind and then positively glued himself to the hand.
Am i broken or is it not ok? Given that they had 6 well cared for kids, he surely works hard and i wouldn't say he is a bad dad just based on those few hours. However, the level of not caring he showed them during those 6.5 hours was astonishing to me. Even if you work hard and it is not your turn to watch kids, how can you not even smile at your kids, not watch them play and laugh? Not talk to any of them even once? By the way, the dad did not look exhausted.
Or maybe he was just very tired and needed a break? I don't want to suggest the bad thing when i know so little. I am confused. It felt wrong, but can i trust this feeling? What do you think?

I'm a reluctant flier. I only do it because it would take too long to get where I want to go. I hate take off and landing and have recently begun to try and set a random alarm for when we're halfway up so I get distracted trying to turn my phone off before the flight attendant fingerwags me for having it on during takeoff. (One time back in the days when it was absolutely forbidden to use them on board, and before they were essentially mini computers or aircraft had wifi, we were taxiing and suddenly someone's alarm went off. The pilot came on the PA, braked the plane and said he wasn't leaving until it was switched off. There was a very sheepish guy not far from me who had to reach all the way up into the overhead locker to do that...)
I came back from America in January. Two rows behind me a girl in her 20s was having a real panic attack even before we took off. She was flying with others so they were calming her down, but I tried to join in the reassurance but didn't manage to catch her eye. And while I was doing this, I ust about forgot about everything until we were firmly in the air.
When we landed at Gatwick I turned round and asked her if she was ok and told her that I know what it's like to be nervous. She apologized! for potentially triggering me as well -- I decided not to tell her that she'd actually been an anti-trigger for me and kept me calm during take off, and just shrugged and said as long as she was ok, so was I.
My normal way of coping with landing is to pretend to fly the plane myself. I grip the armrests and move gently with the motion of the plane, and I have the luxury of being able to shut my eyes as we touch down and speed along the runway. I just hate the sensations involved in both takeoff and landing -- but I try to get a window seat so I can track where we are and try and find where the airport is.
    -----
Regarding the Persian cat story, this is seriously animal abuse. Kitty probably died of fright because her owner thought she could just pack her into a carrier and bring her on board. I feel sorry for it.

Sorry 2 could get op and the flight crew in serious trouble. Imagine the Eman wakes up to find herself on some stranger hold something to her face she could get violent or of fear and hurt op.
Not only was that irresponsible of the staff as op in m is not a trained medic and who's to say his hand would remain there in sleep and the mask falls off.
Also is disrespect to touch others without permission unless they are in immediate danger
I am a light sleeper if someone tried to grab my arm in sleep while out in public I'd have yelped and lashed out as I came out of sleep then had a panic attack at strangers around me. Granted some woman landing on me would have got the same reaction and Is have paniced at her unresponsiveness on top of being so abruptly woken up. Such an experience would make it very difficult for me to sleep on a plane or such in future. I'm not good with crowds and need my personal space. Bursting my personal space makes me anxious and anxiety makes me irrational especially if strangers are the cause of the anxiety.
