ours is a bit different being a 2020 model, but your help with things like removing the door was essential. We will be eternally grateful for your generous effort!
empty the bins completely to avoid breakin your back like i have a couple times -- there's two 3/4" long 1/4" high plastic tabs (used to be metal) in the middle vertically and 3/4 the way back on the metal rail tracks that don't move when the door is open, one on either side... depress both tabs (carefully -- the new ones break) and pull the metal rail tracks completely out of the plastic rail supports, i.o.w., pull the freezer door out straight until the rail tracks come out of the plastic supports... i'll sometimes put the door on my feet and bend over and pull the rail tracks out of the plastic supports one at a time -- on the odd occasion where there's frozen liquid on the rail tracks and plastic supports - that ice will have to be defrosted before you can pull the metal tracks out
Dude this was a life saver. I have this EXACT same refrig and my evap fan motor went out too. Couldn't find anything else on YT about how to remove the drawers.
Thanks for the video! Two lessons I learned that weren't mentioned: a) in order to properly have the bottom bin reinstall properly you have to feed the back end especially deep, and make sure the downward "hooks" actually grab the metal slider from behind. Otherwise it won't align / sit properly. b) it's easier to install the bottom bin BEFORE reinstalling the door, because the bin has a front lip that has to go under the door lip, and if the door's already in place, it's hard/impossible to reposition it. Also, I'll reiterate the simplicity of just removing the right tab and then angling the top drawer to remove it, saving the hassle of taking the left tab off. : )
Thanks, great video. I needed to replace my gasket and I was at a stop until this showed me how to remove the door. I couldn't have done it without this video !!!
Yay I did it ! Thank you. Had to watch it a few times to figure out the tabs but I got it. Anyone can do this. I am one that calls a screw driver plus or minus. So you can imagine. If I can, you can! Going to fix this freezer myself. My husband will be so impressed, wife fixed the freezer.
God bless you! We realized our Whirlpool Gold Series is leaking tonight. Pretty sure the freezer drain is iced up but we couldn't figure out how to get the darn trays out! Tackling this will be the object of my affection tomorrow. Thank you so much for your video!
Soladaddy, thanks a bunch for this video. Very helpful to me. I read many of the comments and 95 out of 100 are very appreciative and thankful. You saved many people time and money. Most people, including me, appreciate your efforts to help anyone/everyone interested. Those other 5 of 100 were here because they needed help and if they didn't find it in your video its not because your elbow got the the view for a few seconds. It's much more likely they're just ignorant, rude morons. Also, I love your note to those critics. Class act Bro.. Thanks again......
Glad it helped. I never intended to make a video on the fridge until those tabs stopped me from taking the tray out. Figured I couldn't be the only one fighting them.
I fixed my problem myself. Those freezer drawer tabs are hard to get off. You have to push in a tab while prying up, angle toward the drawer and finally yank it out. My fan was hitting built up ice in the back of the freezer unit. It took a day, a nasty bloody cut on my finger, choice words, a blow dryer, 4 screwdrivers and my kid to return from school (I had run out of curse words by this time). But we fixed the loud, sanity-shattering noice!
Nice video. I have one like yours. I was wanting to pull the freezer divider you showed out because I spoiled liquid in it and wanting to clean it out but didn't want to tear it all out 🤔. I might try cleaning it without tearing it apart
Thanks for the video, in case you need to take only the top drawer out (for me it was to wash out melted popsicles) you only need to remove the drawer stop on the right. then cock the drawer a little to the left and you can pull it out diagonally up and to the right. This has been a terrible fridge for us - lower ice machine broke in six months, upper ice machine broke after a year and the dispenser broke about three months after that. I have more in Icemaker service/repairs then we paid for the whole refrigerator new. the french doors will only close if you push them shut. the freezer can sit slightly open with no alarm....and allow the popsicles to melt forcing me to search for your video...
@@Soladaddy my lower ice machine broke because the wires were hanging low enough and rubbing the tray. They were brittle and broke very early on. They broke off flush at the connector, Forcing me to replace the unit. This was several years ago and the replacement has worked well. I made sure the new ice maker wires did not rub the drawer.
Hi! I have this same fridge and grateful for it but I cannot get the tab out without fear of breaking it. Did you remove the tab with a screw driver as well?
@@karencaston9235 same as in the video. I used the widest flat screwdriver I had to pry it away from the wall going in more towards the back of the freezer and a very small flat screwdriver to push the square tab in while pulling the stop towards the front. You can push the tab while using the small screwdriver as a pry to remove the stop.
@@karencaston9235 I am sorry I thought I replied. I used a flat screw driver to pry the track away from the wall. maybe a 1/4 inch then I used a very small flat screwdriver to pry in and forward the little square lock of the end cap. the cap came out/forward . I did this on the right side only and was able to twist the tray out
Push in the 4 tabs on the bottom drawer. Slide the drawer out and push out the cover door hinges outwards. Then lift straight up on both drawers at the same time. It comes out in 1 piece.
@@Soladaddy these are more complex and apparently the evaporator / fan system is not robust. Side by sides I believe only have a single system, while these three doors have two separate systems. This fridge has cost me in repairs and food. The side by side will be way more reliable says the repairmen who fixed my three door. I got three years of use of it. Gone now.
Came here to say I have this exact fridge and this is the third time it’s broke down (defrost issues and circuit board issues) since I bought it 5 years ago. I’ve thought about fixing it again but this time it’s gone for good. I’ll be happy to say bye to it. Side by side’s don’t have this issue as much. The French door design has a major flaw no matter the brand. The design just makes it touchy and parts go out easy due to the strain the design puts on the cooling system.
You present a video where you break the freezer stop and call it a booboo??? You broke the drawer frame, on both sides. There are 1/4 screws that you never saw on both rails..
The information was super helpful but it was better when you didn’t turn on your flashlight. All that did was wash out your video and made it darned difficult to see what the heck you were trying to show. Otherwise the info was great
OMG COULD YOU TAKE ANY LONGER? THIS WAS PAINFUL TO WATCH. maybe practice it once before you film it. That could have been a 30 second video. Get to the point man! That's 7 minutes of my life I can't get back..thanks and all for showing us where the hidden clip was. They make it like that so must guys just break it off bc it's is a 50/50 try. Whirlpool jerks. Thanks but get to the point, please.
You just saved me from ripping my drawer completely off the hinges
I already broke one side of mine. Frustrating as hell
Thanks so much for recording this. Mine's a little different, but close enough and I got the ice maker working again!
Good to hear.
"There's no videos on youtube for this." Well, there is now, thanks much!
I never intended to make appliance videos but not finding any info on this problem changed my mind.
This is why I keep my recreational cocaine habit and my appliance repair hobbies separate.
Thank you, this saved me so much pain.
Glad it helped
Thanks a bunch. Wasn’t sure how I was going to get around the drawers to clean out behind them. Saved my butt much appreciated

This video was so helpful.. I am trying do projects myself and I have no clue what I am going. But, I got my drawer out last night!!!! I am so happy.
You can do it.
I can't thank you enough!!! removed both drawers in under 10 minutes including watching this video!!!!!
Excellent! I never would have thought to take the door off. Thanks for posting.
Me either. I was out of options so I gave it a shot.
Thanks! Got the tabs out and was able to defeat the back of the freezer from the drawer being left open a little.

Could not have disassembled my fridge drawers, particularly the middle and the face of the main drawers, without this. Thank you so much.

Awesome Video! Thank you so much! Made my job this morning so easy!!
thanks for the video took me 1 min. both drawers out.
We just spent twenty minutes trying to get this drawer back in place. Thank you!!!!
Glad it helped.

This is great thanks. Taking the door off first made me see it a lot clearer.
Thank you so much. This is exactly the information I needed.
Thanks for the video! Was having a heck of a time with those plastic tabs at the 2:40 mark!
Glad it helped. I never intended to make a video on the fridge until those tabs stopped me from taking the tray out. Figured I couldn't be the only one fighting them.
Thank you so much! Your video is the only one that I found helpful (I have the same model). Also, I saw your Pinellas Heat sticker! Go Heat!
I had the same problem when looking to take them out. I didn’t realize there was a Heat in Pinellas. We are in Tampa Bay Heat based in Brandon.
Thanks man! Saved me from property destruction.
I was at that point too.
Thank you so very much for this video finally got it apart thanks to you
Thanks a million! Your video made it work for me
This was helpful. My unit looks very similar to this, but I have 3 drawers?!?! Grrr …
Oh no!

I'll try again using your method. The engineers need to be fired for this insanity!
FAIL - My drawer won't go back that far to push in any damn tab

I'm with you. Maybe its this one or the new ones in general. My lower ice maker stopped working and have yet to dig in to see why.

To take drawers out, it's easier to take door off first, bottom drawer first, then top comes right out
I mostly went this route. I took the door off and it made getting the tabs out a 10 second process.
Hey thanks man all the way from Trinidad i was have in hella stress with that yes
Yeah, it drove me nuts the first time too.
Anybody have a better demonstration where we aren't staring at an elbow?
Great Video TY Very Much!! you are a Hero!
Glad it helped.
Much Appreciated Sir!! 🔥✊🏿😎
No problem 👍
Thanks 😊
Great video
Do you know the part number for the freezer gasket?
Amazon carry it?
Thanks
I don't know that part number. Check on repairclinic.com. They have many appliance parts.
EXCELLENT!!!
thanks alot. inside of 10 minutes for me ( or less than a beer later) alot of ice build up.
Such a helpful video! I deeped cleaned our freezer and this really helped! 😁
They do hide the hardware holding it together. Glad it was helpful!
How in the world do you get the bottom freezer drawer back in?
I had to first angle the tray to the rear left a bit, get the left corner in place and then drop in the right rear.
although clumsy, it did help--thanks
Thanks. First video so it's a bit rough.
Thank you SO much!
You're welcome!
People are going to love that you broke in to fix their fridge. It honestly looks like a burglary.
lol. The camera didn’t like the extra lighting and it overcompensated ending up making it look dark. Cheap production.
Ty for posting this btw!
I need help re adjusting the fridge shelfs
Man ur the man!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Thanks a lot!
If only the arm was not in the way…
How to remove kitchemaid freezer
Thanks!!
10 secs in he breaks one part, and I'm sure he broke another around 3:30 or so. LOL
Bless you!
Thanks.
Thank you!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
So brute force and a little boobo breakage. Got it
Believe me it's easier to just clean it without going through all this
You’ll get a better clean this way and it’s also helpful if you have ice buildup
Different reasons to remove. I had to get behind the back wall to change out a bad fan motor.
Why he in the dark?
Vaush watched this video.
Same issue with my model. This has been a problem twice! This is NOT a great refrigerator. $400/repair.
I have not been impressed with this thing either. Beginning to think the old side-by-side is a better design.

Yeah, I didn't notice how bad the lighting was until after the job was done. Glad the info hleped.
So what exactly needed to be fixed. My freezer is working great but the fridge system keeps icing up after a few months
You broke something.
Too dark
Bad light, bad camera.
Buy a light
Why is the video so dark? Can't see a thing you are doing!😤😡 Are you fixing a refrigerator in the dark?
Cheap camera couldn't handle the flashlight so its light exposure sensor went crazy.
You got your drawers knocked out last night? Are you sure you shouldn’t change your screen name to West Hollywood ? Lol
Eres muy lento
Primer video. La próxima vez seré más rápido.
U don't know what u doing
Busted. It's not my business but I do what I can to save money and keep stuff working.
