Thank you for all this. I'll be checking prices and zoning to see what's allowed.

On a tangent: how are the ends of rebar secured in the collars?

Use stainless steel zip ties for up to 250 lbs tension, and u-bolts for more than that. This connects the rebar struts to the center rings inside the outer collar. For more information see our video at:

John, thank you for a quick reply. I have to say, your concept and design with the inner ring and outer collar assembly is truly inspired and amazing! It's given me hope to be able to build a small dome enclosure and shelter for our small flock of backyard chickens. That's something which I, at 65 years old and wheelchair bound, wouldn't otherwise be able to do.
So, my question about securing rebar in the collar/ring assembly is pure curiosity. I don't see me ever actually building a dome with those materials. Having said that, and after skimming through the other video you linked to, I still don't see how the ends of the rebar are secured to the rings.
Every other strut material mentioned (PVC pipe, metal conduit, bamboo) is secured to the inner ring by drilling a hole through the end of the strut for a zip tie to pass through and secure it to the inner ring. Is it done the same way with rebar? That is, a small hole is drilled through the end of the rebar for the zip tie to pass through? Unlike all the other strut materials, drilling holes through the ends of so many pieces of metal seems incredibly challenging. (Not impossible, just daunting.) Is that the way to do it?
Again, thanks for conceiving, designing, and developing this system. I've been interested in domes for literally a half century. Your system is the best I've seen. Ever!
