I have had two of these Vego Garden dragon fruit planters for about two years now. I cannot tell you what a waste of money they are. They are absolute nightmares. The wheels are not strong enough to hold the weight of the contents of the planter and eventually buckle. Once the wheels buckle, there is no way to take them off or replace them without completely emptying the planter and taking it apart. On top of that, there is no way to tell how much water is in the bottom of the planter or drain it if it gets too wet. And it's very heavy once it fills with water, which contributes to the buckling of the wheels. And the planters are very expensive. If you try to leave anything other than a five-star review on their website, they will not publish it.
I make the good metal welded ones in south fl. Stay away from plastic in sun. It get brittle. I suspect that just by the time ypu get fruit ypur gonna wish you would have bought mine.
I have this and used it for the first time this year. I got more fruit than I ever have before. My entire yard is pavers so it is really easy to move around. I'm in SoCal so it was great to be able to move it into more shade in the summer so my plant wasn't getting burnt when all my neighbor's plants were. I tend towards underwatering everything so the self wicking pot was awesome for me. I can't recommend all their products though as I also got 2 tomato planters and the stupid trellis' are made of so many pieces that they kept falling apart. I will say this planter is great though.
Ive been looking at this exact container so glad to see your review, its seems like a great product to grow dragon fruit! Im new to growing dragon fruit, I have some Edgar's Baby rooted cuttings, a mature Edgars baby I recently purchased from a nursery ( thats the only variety they have) and got some American Beauty cuttings in the mail yesterday, as well as some fresh seeds on heat mats of a white fleshed red skin, and a yellow variety. Ive been binge watching all of your videos, so grateful for your quality content! Merry Cristmas and wishing you a fantastic new year!
So far so good. I plan to do an update later down the line. Those are awesome to start with! Good luck with your journey. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you as well!
@@GraftingDragonFruit They will not 'grasp' anything on the center at all even with leading them up the center using garden tape. On my old wooden ones, they have always grown roots to 'grasp' the wood and grow upright to the top portion with much less guidance.
$260 way too expensive. Just read the review of one user that have 2 of them - not good. Now: $40-$50 for 25 gal pot, $38 for 4x4x8 cedar post, less than $20 for cedar 2x4x8 and few 3” screws. Much sturdier and time tested. You plant Dragon Fruit plant not to move it around. And if you do not have $50 circular power saw the they can cut that lumber for you at Home Depot if you give them your cut sizes.
No one said it was cheap. This is a solid option for those that aren’t able to build it with lumber themselves, want to save time, or live in an environment where they may require getting moved during extreme cold/hot seasons. if you’re a hobbyist and collector growing lots of varieties, of course this is not the most economic setup.
Is the PP material call Polypropylene? Innovative and very convenient, thank you for sharing. I love the thought behind the design. Looking forward to future updates.
I made five custom trellises and it was quite a bit of work (because I painted them with 3 coats of food safe paint). This product looks like quite a time-saver. I hope you will do a follow-up review in a couple years. Small correction: a chemical is, by definition, anything made out of atoms, so nothing is chemical-free. Even water is a chemical (it's chemical formula is H2O, aka dihydrogen monoxide).
Looks like a wonderful idea, however, that price is way out of my budget. Just cost of planter alone is close to 5-6 of the wooden ones plus pot. Also, I question strength of those tiny wheels because I put my original one on slightly larger 3inch wheels and after a year, they came apart - mine were cheap HF wheels so maybe Eco ones are higher quality.
Can a 2-300 human hang off it with it breaking? Otherwise there are less expensive trellis at home depot that can be used for small plantings. Just use the heavy duty tomato trellis.
awesome setup..how much?? I had red-flesh so sweet flavorful...big stem & hardy ..hard to find...but less fruit because of not much sun...no longer growing white flesh as not sweet..Thank you for sharing..
I've still got an original wooden trellis in a big old pot. The idea of wheels seems cool but I don't know. As of now I use a dolley to get it inside/outside.
whats up with all these varieties? pink inside and outside, pink outside and white inside, yellow outside and white inside. . . . what are all these others
I've had it for almost a year and a half and this thing is trash. I'm in south FL zone 10B. The wheel locked in place and RUSTED in place so it cannot move without two or more people lifting it. The dragon fruit WILL NOT...I repeat WILL NOT grow against the center even with the garden tape. Even when you try to tie it to the center, to train it, it slides because there is no way for it to hold (too smooth). You need to glue or adhere burlap for it to try to grab the center. As someone else mentioned, you cannot tell how much water is in it. They removed this item from amazon so you dont see the REAL reviews of how this product is TRASH. They manipulate their own websites reviews for this item since now you cannot get it on Amazon (because the honest and real reviews made their sales drop).
Wow, I can’t wait to see all these issues arise so I can make an honest review on my second update. Thanks for your experience and insight with this trellis!
This is brilliant, we made two for in front of our house in Australia and discovered that the sun is just too hot and gives them sunburn. I wish this company shipped to Australia. But after seeing this I'll just use a birdies round bed with PVC pipe and a skate to make my own.
hey, im in AUS and i dont have the tools and such to make a traditional trellis so i got some thick bamboo, drilled some holes in the top for a wire and made a strong circle to hold the canopy, so far its going well. I also keep them fairly shaded becasue we have enough heat to keep them going, just a lil sun in the mornings seems to be keeping them growing strong
Very nice trellis...BUT AT OVER 300 DOLLARS??? No way am I buying it. I went to the manufactures website. They have some great products, And they are all out of my price range.
Blue poly tub halved, hardwood post with X piece on top and motobike tyre on top. Maybe hardwood steaks down to the poly tub for support. Placed on top of a trolley/dolley. Once it's covered in dragonfruit plants it will look better. You can make the self-watering part with various items like breadbasket/milk crate, and weedmat/landscape fabric with sand and more landscape fabric. There are many videos showing how to do this.
Sounds like a solid set up, but also a lot of additional work and materials. Some people may just want a simpler solution which this one fulfills that need

@@GraftingDragonFruit I can't wait for your second review when the wheels and locks rust shut....and when they don't want to grow up the center.
Why wouldn’t they want to grow up the center? All you have to do is lead them up. LOL

I like your black boots, where did you get it😊
do u know why the ends of the dragon fruit plant is rotting? is it the winter? I am in zone 9b in bay area CA
There can be many reasons. Frost, too much water, infection. I’d assume it’s probably frost or too much water if you’re in the bay
Probably too much water or cactus rust leading to it. Lots of factors
@@GraftingDragonFruit how can i fix it? I thought cactus can be outside even with rain. ty

Over $250 on Amazon. Way too much. And I agree the wheels also look too flimsy.
