Very comfortable with the fact that I will never be this good at music
I disagree, Charles is at a level where even the vast majority of people who dedicated themselves to bass would never be this technically proficient. It's not just hard work and practice (although there's insane amounts of that, too), talent and creative imagination has a role when you're this absurdly good.
Don't worry, you don't have to be. Music is about fun, passion and perseverance. Not being the most proficient :)
I will never get over this guy's utter talent, not just in playing but composing this stuff for bass
this song isn't his its by a band called polyphia the song's name is G.O.A.T
@@livier3970 I'm not sure that's exactly true in the case of this song, although I do acknowledge that it's a lot harder to play on bass, not to speak of a fretless one.
Well technically this is polyphia. Trust me by no means less impressive.
I'm an old-school guitar guy and I think I've been subscribing to this kid on the base for about a year-and-a-half. If you check out the band they have taken guitar and bass pretty much every instrument they play they've taken their instruments and gone in directions that I didn't even know existed.
And they don't gild the lily.
I used to say a guitar player would shred just for shreds sake, by that I would mean hey look at how fast I can do this and how fast I can do this and how fast I can do this. Their stuff is as complex as a 14 sided Rubik's cube yet still very melodic. And they look like they're fucking 14 which really pisses me off, what did probably in their twenties which to be quite honest is just as much of a pisser lol.
@@kevinkenny5663 ur damn right, em kids just had too much time with guitars
not that they didnt spend it wise improving their skills but the fact that they had so much time to spare for learning things, noone just has that much time so despite em being so skillful there is nothing to admire about it
Guess we can say that Charles is the GOAT after that haha. Great playing as always!
The sound of a fretless is very interesting. It reminds me of a union of regular bass with a handpan drum.
That's the aluminum fretboard. Regular fretless doesn't sound so metallic.
a lot of the time a fretless jazz bass can really sound reminiscent of a horn too. Listen to some of Jaco Pastorius stuff with joni mitchell, its got such a brass vibe
yes omg you said the sentense I've been looking for since I watched my first ever fretless base vid
it’s this particular bass, hence the metal fretboard. safe to say it’s the only one i know of
I'd love to see Tim's reaction to those Polyphia covers. They're sick and I'm certain he'd confirm that
Love the ethereal tone the fretless gives the slides. Totally adds to the song so well
Hiii I started playing the bass like 6 month ago and you're truly an inspiration!! Love your videos!!
This song is already really hard as it is but playing on fretless bass ! All I can say is WOW. I just started playing guita- I MEAN the six-string piccolo bass and you are one of the guys that inspired me. You really are the greatest bassist on UA-cam that I've heard of.
Those harmonics sound like heaven. Amazing, this is just amazing. Really appreciate everything you do Charles keep up the great work.
The accuracy required to sound this good on a fretless is insane.
It takes immense skill to play that song, but to play it on bass, not to mention a FRETLESS BASS. My mind is blown with every upload!
I know a lot of people say you have talent, but what I see is thousands of hours of hard work that’s paid off tremendously. Love your videos man!
I have seen a short of you, playing G.O.A.T. on bass last autumn. That was when I started hearing Polyphia all the time. In May this year I have been at a show of them here in germany. During the concert I thanked god for being able to hear something that beautiful.
Leider konnte ich nicht zu Polyphias Konzert, da ich am anderen Ende von Deutschland wohne und ich satte 7 Stunden dahin fahren müsste💀
People doesn't know how difficult fretless is and how impossible are things you do with it. Impressive❤
Your Fretless covers take us to heaven all the time ! Soo soothing
Absolutely amazing. I loved every second of that
dude why do you tease us with these short versions. pls do the whole song, this is epic
G.O.A.T. indeed! Well done as always, Charles! 😎👍🏼
this is actually nuts what the hell man
You and David are proving what bass can be completely independent instrument. Such a nice sound. Even more interesting then piano or violine (too dry); when bass in more deep and smooth. Well done. Thank you for your job.
That bass looks so beautiful!
Man you nailed the lick so perfectly, its so fucking hard
Charles is the musician you aspire to become, even though you will most likely never achieve his level of bass mastery. Awesome bro, just awesome!
The sounds you are able to produce on that beautiful fretless... are simply breathtaking. Kudos sir, as always, very impressive!!!
So beautiful!
So smooth! Especially „the lick”
This is insane. Awesome version. Would love to hear the whole track
I or should I say 'we' as a community are in awe of your endless talent...incredible Charles...🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
You never fail to impress.
Why is there just one like button? Tried to hit it multiple times already, absolutely mesmerising.
Stunning and mindblowing
When i first heard of this song, I instantly knew charles could pull this off like it's a piece of cake. You are amazing Mr.Berthoud!
Your skillz + fretless bass = pure listening joy ❤
Another great one Charles
Has such a haunting sitar sound as well, super cool man
That was incredible. I love the work that went into arranging this, let alone the skill of then playing it.
This guy plays everything so relaxed and in control... Unbelievable!!!
watching this gave me goosebumps *-*
Beautiful and music to the ears as always! 💖💖💖
every video i watch from you makes my admiration grow stronger
First time that I didnt like a piece that Charles has played (the opening was fine, but after a bit it sounded kinda messy to me) but despite that, his ability to hit notes exactly on a fretless is just awesome!
Thank you for making this! Your use of fretless for Polyphia songs fits so well. Maybe clay gober will take some inspiration
Could you imagine a Charles / Tim collab 😍
This music from another planet awesome man
This might be one of the biggest flexes I have ever seen. Killer video as usual man.
Just watched this several times in a row. Great job 👏
goat is definitely one of my favorites. solid choice
omg only 60 seconds. your teasing a full song to bang on my playlist!!!
Every musician in Polyphia is flat out amazing. Genius level. And yet, in my humble opinion, I believe Charles is even BETTER.
Fverytime I see you use the fretless I want one!! Flabbergasting!!
Those harmonics are just haunting. Those alone will discourage me from going any further and just surrendering to my fate as another worm in the dirt.
Just brilliant - a master of his craft, as they say!
Ufffff just absolutely sick!!! Endless talent this man has.
I love your work interpreting their guitar lines on bass! I'd love to hear what you can do with their Bass likes as well, Clay Gober writes some pretty mind blowing licks
Without a doubt the best bassist to exist period.
Absolutely mesmerizing!!
Thank you for this nice dose of serotonin
Wow. I loved the playing god one, this one is even more insane! Congrats!
MORE POLYPHIA PLEASE loving this content
Ok. I need to ripoff those harmonic pinches for the intro section big time.
You rock as always!~
Jesus it sounds amazing wow
Its like playing a bass with a bow. No frets so you just have to remember finger placement really well to get the precise note
Full version on Spotify???? 😅 love it ❤ Chuck!!!
The greatness of a song; when it sounds good on a fretless bass too. Nice job.
Its sounds incredible. I like it even better than the original!
Awesom as always Charles! It's a pure pleasure listening to you on bass.
DAMN YOU Charles!!! Makin me love songs I hate!
Excellent cover as usual!
Goddamnit I need the whole song in this style now!!!
This needs to be made into a 10 hour loop
Damb, that sounds heavenly
Marcel! Não é pra vida toda não! Eu tive nesse mesmo nível, tratei 3 meses e hoje zero dor. Muita fisio, fortalecimento e gelo. Deus abençoe!
hey i would love to see you play some first fragment stuff. This band is veeeery technical and i have never seen anybody play it except for their real bassist. Will you consider making a video like this please?
It sounds ethereal at the start
The fretless makes it more spooky either way the drifting intonation
Best video of yours on fretless bass so far, imo
How did I miss this? This is so amazing!
How does it feel to have 10 fingers in each hand?
Phenomenal!
WOW. Excellent.
just amazing!
So playing fretless, taping the notes with the left, and playing the artificial harmonics at THE SAME TIME, they have different rhythms mind you, and it just all sounds so perfect!? I know this must've took a lot to practice, but jeez, this is basically just monstrous talent. I cried btw, at my lack of talent, and at how beautiful this was. Awesome.
Polyphia, Animals as Leaders, Marcin and Charles epic collab
This is such a great match 🤯
A collaboration with el estepario sibariano would be epic
BASS & DRUMS
That is amazing
Speechless
Just wanted to stop in and say I'm a big fan, and that i hope you're well, Charles. Cheers!
I have a mighty need for a 6 string fretless now
Amazingly beautiful talented charles..
Always an amazing listen 👍👍
Bro the fact that the off beats are filled with sharps and microtones🙌🏾
Bro you have to make beats, that’s bass intro had me waiting for the that 808 drop!!!
That's really beautiful. And those artificial harmonics sound absolutely fantastic.
This still has to be the best sounding fretless ive heard
Unbelievably beautiful
More Polyphia please!
That’s insane!
Fretless and Polyphia Is the ultimate combination, imo. Love your work and your music
It definitely translates very nicely!!
@CharlesBerthoud because it consists of playing bass techniques in the first place ;)
@@CharlesBerthoud Someone get Tim Henson on the line, we need a collab ASAP.
