Lovely to see you Dan :)
I keep my horns clean, just like Greg but with a couple of different tricks. i save a fortune on adjustments by my techs. They told me that cleaning the horn because of neglect by the owner takes them more time than the actual adjustment. Because to clean the pads they have to dismantle the horn to to do a cleaning that could have been avoided by very simple cleaning after every playing session.
There seems to be a difference of opinion re clamps. The G sharp pad usually sticks In my experience because it is left closed and not allowed to dry open. When I put a cotton pad or other device so that the pad dries open (see keyleaves etc) I have no problem ever with G sharp sticking and this is across a number of horns. Have you noticed this or anything similar? I use a really good swab 2-3 times after each playing. So, does the use of key clamps cause more pad sticking??
Clamps seem to help the pads seal better and I've not (in 9 months of using them) noticed anything sticking more than usual, except for the G#!
