1:00 This is in fact not the 1st time Shostakovich wrote for this particular snare/wood block/castanet motif- It also appeared at the end of in the 2nd movement of his towering 4th symphony(a personal fave of mine), and Simon Rössler of Berlin Phil plays that passage exactly the same way as Ed does here! 10:14 The double triangle roll is a good idea IMHO- given that both the timpani & the cymbals are playing quite loudly at that moment, doubling the triangle part makes it easier to match the volume!
