I'm concerned for officer #1. Hopefully he got appropriate trauma counseling. Poor guy went into shock. We really need to support our police and veterans after all they've been through keeping us safe. There is no shame in seeking professional help after a traumatic event.
He had previous interactions with the suspect and knew he didn’t actually want to hurt anybody else and was committing suicide by cop. He called him out to dispatch by name.
Have you seen the video where the cop shoots at imaginary suspects in the woods? He then has a panic attack and the paramedic takes the weapon from him. I don't think people realize sometimes how stressful being a police officer can be.

The homeowner comes out of the house with his gun because he just sees guys fighting in his field. The cop shoots at the homeowner, realizes how bad he just fucked up, and then proceeds to have a panic attack while an emt continues wrestling with the suspect in the field.
Hearing cops yelling “please don’t do this” while holding someone at gunpoint should tell you they truly don’t want to hurt you unless they give you a reason. They are human just like the rest of us.

Once you do something that requires them to use lethal force they are required to make sure you are dead as fuck so you won't put anyone else in danger. When deadly force reasonably appears to be necessary to protect a protective force officer who reasonably believes himself or herself to be in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm". No where in that does it say "Oh shoot them 3 times and see if they still want to fight", It very specifically states imminent danger, and as the law says a reasonable person would constitute a suspect having a gun in their hand as imminent danger to a police officer especially after having had many many many chances to surrender. The Police stopped shooting at the suspect once he dropped the gun, which meant that the suspect no longer posed an imminent threat to the officers and so they resumed their efforts to take him into custody without using force, AND to top it all off the suspect survived the encounter. The Police are not here to kill people, if they were they would have just kept shooting this guy til he stopped moving but they didn't. If anything at all this video should be used as a teaching point for current and future officers on recognizing when a suspect is no longer a threat and the stress that comes with a traumatic situation like having to shoot someone on the job.
You are 100% right. Regardless of training, you never know how you'll react when the situation is presented. Sometimes we aren't ready for what we are presented with.
@@annamiau8116 if I may, we’re currently facing a global shortage in emergency service workers, may I recommend you go get your EMT and volunteer with your local fire department or SAR team? The experience will be a big eye opener me thinks.
As an EMT, I have had situations where people had accidents and were in shock, and besides treating them, just holding their hand signals that someone is there. It's always good to have a team you can trust and that supports you in situations like this. respect to the officer holding the 1st officer's hand, think that if you're in shock, it helps to show that the person is not alone and comfort them in a situation where you probably don't want to talk or irritate them. Great job by the officers.
If I ever call 911, I hope they send someone who will focus on stopping my fucking jugular from spewing blood and not try to hold my hand or snuggle. Especially because I'm sure that hand holding would somehow show up as an additional $4,000 not covered by insurance.

Heart breaking for officer #1, you can hear the desperation in his voice as he begs the suspect to not reach for his firearm, it’s extremely clear he doesn’t want to hurt the suspect, and the way he continued to I’m at the suspect through heavy breathing even though his fellow officers secured the scene. You can tell it was extremely difficult for him and really affected him. Hope he recovers from this, I can’t begin to imagine the stress associated with this job

I’ve watched probably a million of these and this department seems like an amazing team. Checking in with each other and recognizing when someone needs a hand is so nice to see. I can’t imagine the stress of a situation like this.
For real, it was like a symphony, every box checked and done properly, from engaging suspect, forming perimeter, chain of command checking officers, engaging public, everything. Insanely professional, they should seriously show THIS video in training nationwide, for the ideal police force.

The 911 call shows 2 things. 1) Call 911, report the emergency then HANG UP. NEVER stay on the phone with these quota-hires. They will screw up EVERYTHING. If you give them a description, they'll screw it up. She called 911 and after nearly a minute on the phone, the dumbass transferred her to a brand new quota-hire to give the story again. 2) Instead of crying on the phone to some quota hire who could not care less about you, your safety, your store and customers, this video shows why EVERYONE should have a gun and be ready to shoot the bad guy. Democrats want you to be in the position of this poor woman!!! They hate you.
Officers involved in a shooting have to submit to drug/alcohol testing. Not that the Captain wasn't concerned for his officers, but it is pretty standard that anyone pulling a trigger needs to be checked out at the hospital. Adrenaline often blocks the senses and they could have an injury that they didn't even notice, which is another good reason to be looked over in a hospital.

I’m glad the officer had his partners there to keep his head right. You don’t know how you’re going to react to a situation like this no matter how much training you have, you can train all day every day until the real thing happens you won’t know exactly how it feels to have to do what you have to do to protect the public, yourself and your fellow officers.

This video makes me emotional. I am a retired patrol officer, and I was involved in more than one shooting. My first at 21, my second at 30, and my 3rd at 34. The adrenaline dump that occurs post-shooting is immense. You forget minute details...your entire perspective changes. That is why an officer should wait at least 12 hours before giving an official statement...you have to let those emotions work thru your system. All of my shootings were determined to be "in-policy" or good shootings...but you still worry up until the point it is official and you always feel guilty about the loss of life, regardless.
I was involved in one during field training, it was preceeded by a 10 mile pursuit and yeah, besides a gunfight I was in in Iraq it was definitely the most adrenaline I've ever felt. I felt high for about an hour. Thanks for you service brother

When I was 12 I watched a man get shot point blank in the head at an apartment complex. My friend and I started banging on doors to get to safety and officers came so fast and got the guy and were so kind and reassuring to us. I remember being so scared to see the shooter and officers promised we never would. I always wondered why we were never called into court but when I got older I asked my mom and she said the officer made it known to detectives how terrified we were and since there was 2 adult witnesses we were left out of it (obviously they had our statements) I've always had a deep admiration for officers after that incident. I hope you both have long, happy, healthy lives ❤❤

It's heart wrenching to see an officer shell shocked like that doing his job. I have the highest respect for law enforcement and what they have to endure whilst being hated by certain people. Keep doing what you do hero's and know that you are loved and respected everyday.
These officers are an EXCEPTIONAL example of how teammates should work together. They’re also an exceptional example of following routine & procedures. Whatever kind of training they have, it was done correctly and they should be seen as an example for other police departments! God bless them all ❤
Maybe the first two but what in the eff was that 3rd officer doing? a complete lack of situational awareness and inaction caused a tragic situation for the officers that had to fire their weapons. something they'll have to live with now.

Not sure many (including myself) would be able to be a peace officer after this and how it must affect you psychologically.. the heavy panting and adrenaline from the office is all that needs heard.. the emotions of this job run extremely high

This is one of the most important rules of gun safety if not THE most important; never point a gun at anything you don't wish to destroy. If one's emotional reaction means pointing a gun at a friendly, then these emotions prevent them from performing their job properly. You want this cop in your neighborhood? The one that froze up as he shot a single bad guy... what if there are 7 of them? attacking your family... and the only cop to protect your family froze up as the other 6 overrun him? There are many facets to this job and you are focusing on a single aspect - emotions. An ideal cop can control his emotions, even after killing someone - that is the cop you actually want. One that can not only stop a single threat but can continue to save your family from the other 6. I also certainly have a bias towards cops over criminals.
The first officer clearly had a form of panic attack or suffered extreme panic in that moment, my heart goes out to him, not everyone can stay in that situation with such high stress appearing

I was about to criticize the first officer for flagging everybody until I realized he was in shock. It's tough enough being an officer on the streets, let alone having a lifetime to deal with the struggles of taking a life. I hope he makes it through it all and rises above, continuing to value life the same way.
he had his finger on the trigger, and had just shot multiple rounds, some quite a bit after the cease fire call. Look no judgement and I understand the officer is having a problem, but that's exactly why he should have surrendered his gun - at least right there at the scene, if not until he's released from the hospital. The guy was not responding to commands, or anything really.

Man the fact that officer #1 just froze and went into shock says a lot about a person. He couldn't believe he just had to take another humans life. I hope he doesn't get PTSD from this encounter. Good job on the officers for trying everything to get the man to surrender and not have them shot him.
@Final Failure I feel like that defaults back to just gun training tbh. Ik even when I'm firing at the range and for a fact ik I only have 5 rounds, after those 5 my finger still instinctively goes off the trigger and flips my safety on.

Officer Evans breaks my heart. He truly did not want to shoot this guy. He was traumatized by the entire situation. I pray he got the help he needed. It also pisses me off how police officers are treated these days. This shows how difficult their job really is.
Damn, either all five officers missed a lot of shots or somehow miraculous, the dude is still alive after all that shots. He even acted if nothing happened after all those shots from all five officers.

At 6:30 the officer definitely went into a panic attack. His fight or flight was out of control and he was basically paralyzed by it. When the shooting happened, he automatically began to shoot. After this, he is still grasping his weapon and cannot put it down. He was stuck in this trance until the other officer spoke with him. It’s tough to be a cop and this is a great example to show that they’re human and their psychological well being can be impaired in such intense moments
Yes and the job isn’t for everyone, this guy I don’t think should be an officer. He just ain’t created for that type of intensity only a certain type can do it.
The fact that the officers gave this individual so many opportunities to live, while obviously displayed the capabilities to end his life if he did not comply, one has to conclude that many of these poor souls have a death wish. I feel sorry for the trauma these poor officers have to live with as a result. Heartbreaking anyway you look at this. So sad the officer said pleas, please, please countless times. I hope our humanity can evolve towards love, so sad for all involved.
The trauma that our police go through is no joke. This is why citizens must comply with commands in the simplest situations, things can get real dangerous in a fraction of a second. A sincere thank you to our men and women in Blue. That's a good example of team work and brotherhood. A genuine concern for the lives of all their brothers and the for life of the man that they genuinely did not want to harm.

Dude doesnt need to be a cop, wrong line of work for him. Hes goin to get a fellow officer or himself killed one day the way he was in this. It's pretty clear this was more then likely one of the first times if not the first time hes ever had to draw his sidearm on a scene. His constant screaming shows how stressed he was then constly backing up to get away. Then had so much shock after firing his weapon he flagged every other officer that closed the distance after.... he lost all motor skills and what ever training he had...

I would be far more worried about the guys who feel only euphoric over having to shoot someone than I would with anyone reacting as he did, just as long as he's together enough to accomplish the mission while it's going sideways.
@@tylertapp131 most people don't have first hand experience of using deadly force. It's difficult to ascertain how one would react in hypothetical situations. Especially one as stressful as this. No amount of preemployment psych exams will ever be able to forecast how one reacts to something like this.
We’re so used to seeing confident police officers take care of low lives and be the hero. Sometimes we forget these officers are still humans at the end of the day. Feeling frightened or traumatised due to these events are quite normal. Hope he’s recovered from this and in better shape.
this video put a lot into perspective it’s crazy how you see all the videos of officers shooting people and being okay but this time you get to see two very real perspectives of officers doing their job and actively going through the emotions. wish the best to all and hope they were okay after that
We defintely need a complete revamping of the 911 dispatch system. It's sounds way too much like a customer call center than a emergency response line.
Counties can only do so much. Ultimately when a new tax levy is proposed to revamp 911 call centers the voters will reject it. The citizens get what they are willing to pay for.
Cop #1 totally lost it. Screaming, terrified, backed away from cover, then kept his pistol aimed at officers downrange and a supervisor had to push his gun down and holster it. This jobs not for him.

Always a red flag when the suspect is well known to officers. Clearly something isn't working if there have been so many instances of police interactions that he's immediately recognized. Some other process needs be implemented to protect both the public and the mentally ill (from themselves). That's simply not a function the police department should be forced to handle over and over again while the courts wash their hands of the situation by turning offenders loose.

Unless you've walked in his shoes, though, try to be a bit less critical. He may have played on the same high school football team as the perp which could be why he knew his name. Maybe one was a right guard and the other a right tackle. Best buddies, and now they find themselves on the opposite side of the law years later. Plus, in that job, you make one mistake in a split second decision and you could find yourself in jail for 30+ years, too. They have no support from the general public anymore because everyone is afraid of being ostracized by society, thanks to the grifters of BLM, the Dems, the media, and big tech. Because of that, the good cops (or at least the smart ones) are retiring early or quitting, and the replacement candidates are the ones that simply shouldn't be cops, like Officer Evans here. This really indicates he needs to be let go from the force. Being shaken after his first shooting and flagging officers could be addressed by corrective action, but if the call went out that shots had been discharged he either knowingly lied hoping to deescalate other officers from shooting or was lying to himself/losing focus out of fear, both unacceptable due to the endangerment to others. There is a possibility that the eventual dispatch call didn't mention the shots fired, but the dispatcher at both districts were informed and should be fired too. Even if so, assuming a weapon is fake is unacceptable on the force.

We don't get to hear what the dispatcher anounced over the radio, but they were directly informed. The 2nd caller didn't mention it. Edit: either way, assuming the gun was fake at the 4:38 mark is an unacceptably deadly mistake.
It's definitely an observation that may be troublesome in the Use of Force review/investigation. After all, if a person thinks a gun is fake, then why did they shoot? I can acknowledge it's a high stress moment and use of force is dynamic as well as opinions... but the rest of the public may not.
I feel bad for the cop, but if you get a panic attack in a situation like this.. I'm not sure if being a cop is the right job for you. Hope he'll mak a full recovery.

First officer knew suspect by name and this situation froze him. He reacted well but once the suspect was down you could see it truly affected him! Hope everyone turns out ok!
Dude he walked up to the DG and went face to face with the guy not even realizing that that guy was the shooter. If this guy wasn't suicidal and was homicidal this cop would be dead. He was then yelling at the guy in a panicked tone and then couldn't put his gun away. It had to be taken from him.

I'm concerned for officer #1. Hopefully he got appropriate trauma counseling. Poor guy went into shock. We really need to support our police and veterans after all they've been through keeping us safe. There is no shame in seeking professional help after a traumatic event.

No where in that does it say "Oh shoot them 3 times and see if they still want to fight", It very specifically states imminent danger, and as the law says a reasonable person would constitute a suspect having a gun in their hand as imminent danger to a police officer especially after having had many many many chances to surrender. The Police stopped shooting at the suspect once he dropped the gun, which meant that the suspect no longer posed an imminent threat to the officers and so they resumed their efforts to take him into custody without using force, AND to top it all off the suspect survived the encounter. The Police are not here to kill people, if they were they would have just kept shooting this guy til he stopped moving but they didn't. If anything at all this video should be used as a teaching point for current and future officers on recognizing when a suspect is no longer a threat and the stress that comes with a traumatic situation like having to shoot someone on the job.

As an EMT, I have had situations where people had accidents and were in shock, and besides treating them, just holding their hand signals that someone is there. It's always good to have a team you can trust and that supports you in situations like this. respect to the officer holding the 1st officer's hand, think that if you're in shock, it helps to show that the person is not alone and comfort them in a situation where you probably don't want to talk or irritate them. Great job by the officers.

Heart breaking for officer #1, you can hear the desperation in his voice as he begs the suspect to not reach for his firearm, it’s extremely clear he doesn’t want to hurt the suspect, and the way he continued to I’m at the suspect through heavy breathing even though his fellow officers secured the scene. You can tell it was extremely difficult for him and really affected him. Hope he recovers from this, I can’t begin to imagine the stress associated with this job

I’ve watched probably a million of these and this department seems like an amazing team. Checking in with each other and recognizing when someone needs a hand is so nice to see. I can’t imagine the stress of a situation like this.
For real, it was like a symphony, every box checked and done properly, from engaging suspect, forming perimeter, chain of command checking officers, engaging public, everything.

1) Call 911, report the emergency then HANG UP. NEVER stay on the phone with these quota-hires. They will screw up EVERYTHING. If you give them a description, they'll screw it up. She called 911 and after nearly a minute on the phone, the dumbass transferred her to a brand new quota-hire to give the story again.
2) Instead of crying on the phone to some quota hire who could not care less about you, your safety, your store and customers, this video shows why EVERYONE should have a gun and be ready to shoot the bad guy.

Officers involved in a shooting have to submit to drug/alcohol testing. Not that the Captain wasn't concerned for his officers, but it is pretty standard that anyone pulling a trigger needs to be checked out at the hospital. Adrenaline often blocks the senses and they could have an injury that they didn't even notice, which is another good reason to be looked over in a hospital.

This video makes me emotional. I am a retired patrol officer, and I was involved in more than one shooting. My first at 21, my second at 30, and my 3rd at 34. The adrenaline dump that occurs post-shooting is immense. You forget minute details...your entire perspective changes. That is why an officer should wait at least 12 hours before giving an official statement...you have to let those emotions work thru your system. All of my shootings were determined to be "in-policy" or good shootings...but you still worry up until the point it is official and you always feel guilty about the loss of life, regardless.
I was involved in one during field training, it was preceeded by a 10 mile pursuit and yeah, besides a gunfight I was in in Iraq it was definitely the most adrenaline I've ever felt. I felt high for about an hour. Thanks for you service brother

When I was 12 I watched a man get shot point blank in the head at an apartment complex. My friend and I started banging on doors to get to safety and officers came so fast and got the guy and were so kind and reassuring to us. I remember being so scared to see the shooter and officers promised we never would. I always wondered why we were never called into court but when I got older I asked my mom and she said the officer made it known to detectives how terrified we were and since there was 2 adult witnesses we were left out of it (obviously they had our statements) I've always had a deep admiration for officers after that incident. I hope you both have long, happy, healthy lives ❤❤

If one's emotional reaction means pointing a gun at a friendly, then these emotions prevent them from performing their job properly. You want this cop in your neighborhood? The one that froze up as he shot a single bad guy... what if there are 7 of them? attacking your family... and the only cop to protect your family froze up as the other 6 overrun him? There are many facets to this job and you are focusing on a single aspect - emotions. An ideal cop can control his emotions, even after killing someone - that is the cop you actually want. One that can not only stop a single threat but can continue to save your family from the other 6. I also certainly have a bias towards cops over criminals.

I was about to criticize the first officer for flagging everybody until I realized he was in shock. It's tough enough being an officer on the streets, let alone having a lifetime to deal with the struggles of taking a life. I hope he makes it through it all and rises above, continuing to value life the same way.
he had his finger on the trigger, and had just shot multiple rounds, some quite a bit after the cease fire call. Look no judgement and I understand the officer is having a problem, but that's exactly why he should have surrendered his gun - at least right there at the scene, if not until he's released from the hospital. The guy was not responding to commands, or anything really.
When I say surrender, I mean other officers should have taken control of his gun.

At 6:30 the officer definitely went into a panic attack. His fight or flight was out of control and he was basically paralyzed by it. When the shooting happened, he automatically began to shoot. After this, he is still grasping his weapon and cannot put it down. He was stuck in this trance until the other officer spoke with him. It’s tough to be a cop and this is a great example to show that they’re human and their psychological well being can be impaired in such intense moments

The fact that the officers gave this individual so many opportunities to live, while obviously displayed the capabilities to end his life if he did not comply, one has to conclude that many of these poor souls have a death wish. The trauma that our police go through is no joke. This is why citizens must comply with commands in the simplest situations, things can get real dangerous in a fraction of a second. A sincere thank you to our men and women in Blue. That's a good example of team work and brotherhood. A genuine concern for the lives of all their brothers and the for life of the man that they genuinely did not want to harm.

I would be far more worried about the guys who feel only euphoric over having to shoot someone than I would with anyone reacting as he did, just as long as he's together enough to accomplish the mission while it's going sideways.
@@tylertapp131 most people don't have first hand experience of using deadly force. It's difficult to ascertain how one would react in hypothetical situations. Especially one as stressful as this. No amount of preemployment psych exams will ever be able to forecast how one reacts to something like this.
We’re so used to seeing confident police officers take care of low lives and be the hero. Sometimes we forget these officers are still humans at the end of the day. Feeling frightened or traumatised due to these events are quite normal. Hope he’s recovered from this and in better shape.

We defintely need a complete revamping of the 911 dispatch system. It's sounds way too much like a customer call center than a emergency response line.
I think the quality differs town to town.
911 get THOUSANDS of calls a day. You're at the mercy of whatever dispatcher you happen to connect with.
Counties can only do so much. Ultimately when a new tax levy is proposed to revamp 911 call centers the voters will reject it. The citizens get what they are willing to pay for.

Always a red flag when the suspect is well known to officers. Clearly something isn't working if there have been so many instances of police interactions that he's immediately recognized. Some other process needs be implemented to protect both the public and the mentally ill (from themselves). That's simply not a function the police department should be forced to handle over and over again while the courts wash their hands of the situation by turning offenders loose.

He may have played on the same high school football team as the perp which could be why he knew his name. Maybe one was a right guard and the other a right tackle. Best buddies, and now they find themselves on the opposite side of the law years later.
Plus, in that job, you make one mistake in a split second decision and you could find yourself in jail for 30+ years, too. They have no support from the general public anymore because everyone is afraid of being ostracized by society, thanks to the grifters of BLM, the Dems, the media, and big tech. Because of that, the good cops (or at least the smart ones) are retiring early or quitting, and the replacement candidates are the ones that simply shouldn't be cops, like Officer Evans here. I think you'll see a trend in more private security and "mercenary" cops in the future, but only in those communities that can afford it..

Yeah: that seems to jive with the callers’ reports of those fake gunshots. Glad they assumed it was real, though.
This really indicates he needs to be let go from the force. Being shaken after his first shooting and flagging officers could be addressed by corrective action, but if the call went out that shots had been discharged he either knowingly lied hoping to deescalate other officers from shooting or was lying to himself/losing focus out of fear, both unacceptable due to the endangerment to others. There is a possibility that the eventual dispatch call didn't mention the shots fired, but the dispatcher at both districts were informed and should be fired too. Even if so, assuming a weapon is fake is unacceptable on the force.
