There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner for his own harm; 14. and the same riches were lost by any evil adventure; and if there is a son, nothing remains in his hand. 15. As he came out of his mother's womb, so he will go, naked as he came; and he will take nothing from his work that he can take in his hand. 16. Now this is a grievous evil; for just as it came, so it will go; and what profit is it to you to have worked for the wind, 17. and that he had spent all his days in darkness, and that he had suffered much weariness, infirmities, and boredom? 18 This is what I saw, a good and beautiful thing: for someone to eat and drink, and each one to enjoy the good of all his work, with which he toils under the sun, all the days of the life that God has given him; for this is your lot. 19. And as for the man to whom God has given riches and goods, and power to enjoy them, to receive his portion, and to rejoice in his work, that is the gift of God. 20. For he will not remember much of the days of his life; because God fills his heart with joy. (Ecclesiastes, 5)
