Session: Unlocking International Finance to Promote Agricultural Resilience and Support Smallholder Farmers
The growing gap to fund the climate transition equates to the difference between the $100 billion annually committed by donor countries and the more than $2.4 trillion needed per year by 2030 (World Bank). In order to meet this critical gap, corporate and financial investments need to be leveraged, to ensure that agriculture producers are being incentivized and paid for their transition to more resilient and climate smart agricultural practices.
This interactive session will explore the barriers and solutions for unlocking this financial support from the public and private sectors to support resilient agriculture globally. Leveraging the most globally recognized biogeochemical carbon model, DNDC, and remote sensing technologies that have been developed for over a decade with on the ground partners, Regrow Agriculture’s MRV (monitoring, reporting and verification) platform, is expanding globally to support smallholder farmers in Southeast Asia, SubSaharan Africa, and South America. Regrow co-founder, Bill Salas, and Manager of Strategic Partnerships, Janet Smith, will provide an overview of Regrow's technologies and how these tools are facilitating international climate financing to small holder farmers by providing an effective and scaleable solution to measure the environmental impacts and benefits of agricultural practices.
Following an overview of the Regrow’s technology and programs, the session invites participants to discuss and assess the challenges, needs and interest in leveraging these markets, financing and tools, to support their own programming and institutional goals.
