I retired at the end of 2022 after 50 years working at almost every Port of Baltimore facility. What no one has mentioned is that when the Key Bridge was built in 1977, no one imagined that container ships would grow to the 90,000ton and up Behemoths that exist today. Also there were no large Pure Car Carriers like there are now either. When I started we were still unloading cars from bulk carriers using the ships cranes to lift them from the holds one at a time and lowering them pierside. The huge Seagirt Container facility adjacent to the Dundalk marine terminal did not exist yet then either. The Key Bridge was the closest Highway to both those terminals. How can anyone build Anything that they might have to accomodate 50 years in the future?
