If God really exists, then it's up to him if he sends me to hell or heaven. All I know is that I'm a good person, I help the poor, I try my best to be good. So if God exists and he sends me to hell even knowing that I was good person, while rapists, and murderers, etc enter heaven, then that's an evil God.
+Mental Carnage it doesnr mattwr if your a good person you dumbass. if you reject! jesus Christ you will not be saved. because you didn't let him. you reject him and he will reject you
+Mental Carnage and your an idiot. i dont know who gave you that garbage idea of how god is, but he wants to save you. You wont let him, hell is a place without god, wanna live a life without god? hell is that place
+Mental Carnage um no its called the truth, jesus talked about saving people from hell all threw the book of matthew. you think people can live a dirty life like murder, rape, etc and get away with it. you can IF you accept jesus and asked for forgivness. the biggest sin is the rejection of jesus Christ. you choose to love your sins more than god. god hates sin and he wants it destroyed in eternal damnation. you picked the wrong person to try to talk to about that garbage you first said
+Mental Carnage and i can give you verses on how ahtiests are "fools" psalm 14 read that. i can give you bible verses of gods existence very easy genesis 1.1 i can also give you bible verses on sin corrupts people. want me to keep going? don't try to use the bible against me because i will win buddy
If I died and was surprised to find myself in an afterlife to be judged by a God that does indeed exist, I'd have thousands of questions for him/her, beginning with; Why did you make me an atheist? Why did you give me a rational mind, and surround me with perfectly plausible explanations for my existence in the natural world, accompanied by overwhelming supporting evidence, such that I was convinced that your existence seemed totally unnecessary? Why did you remain perfectly hidden my entire life, and never allowed me access to a single shred of objective evidence that you exist? Why do you favor the most gullible, and easily fooled among us? Why do you need mere mortals to believe in you and continually praise you? ..etc .. etc.
***** .. I do not have to "believe in oxygen" .. I accept that it exists because I have seen convincing evidence of it. The same could not be said of any god. BTW, I have actually seen oxygen with my own eyes too .. liquid oxygen is a pretty light blue color.. but it's chilly, minus 300 F. Adam & Eve are fictional characters in a book of fables written by bronze age tribesmen .. isn't it time you grew up and let go of your imaginary friends?
Dan Moser on the subject of seeing oxygen: if you think about it, you can see nearly invisible gases like oxygen with the naked eye even in gas form. If you look at mountains in the distance, they appear to be more faded the farther away they are. Even though air appears to not be visible to the naked eye, with several miles of air between an object and your eye, you can see that it is slightly visible.
andrew welsh .. yes, but religious people like ***** often use the very real presence of oxygen gas or other "invisible" things in a dishonest attempt to justify faith in invisible gods or spirits, hoping that no one notices that invisible is not the same thing as non-existent. Faith is pretending to know what you actually don't know .. it is the essence of dishonesty and self-deception.
outatis ater .. yes, the existence of love can be proven, depending on your precise definition of the word.. outside of my own personal experience of loving others and being loved by others, there are ways we can now physically measure electrical brain activity that corresponds to the love emotion. No such physical evidence for god. Your implication that .. since we can't prove the existence of love or god, and we know that love exists, therefore god does too .. is a very poor logical argument.
That's not a proper excuse mate! God will say to you "depart from me into everlasting fire" god can be proven through the bible prophecies that have come true, creation.
ATHEIST WAGER Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. “Suppose we've chosen the wrong god. Every time we go to church we're just making him madder and madder.” -Homer J. Simpson
+GuruTruthSpeak Pascals wager is a false dichotomy. As if the only two outcomes are no god or a christian god. What if you are standing before any of the thousands of other gods? Your chances are not just 50-50. Imagine that there were only 1000 gods throughout human history. The probability of your god being the right one is very slim. 1 / 1000... 0.001% chance of your god being right. Thats the same percentage you would be looking at when figuring out what god you might stand in front of when you die. The reality is that there are far more gods in history than just 1000... (closer to 4,200) so your number of probability drops even further. So are you really happy with your odds?
Pascal's wager presents the dilemma as if there are only two options. Believe in the god and if you are right then you get infinite reward, don't believe in him and face infinite suffering. There are more than two options, it isn't presented as such, therefore its a false dichotomy. Its not hard to grasp, though you seem to be struggling with it. The christian god, the one (of the abrahamic texts) that they (christians) think applies to them. Christians, jews, and muslims don't all believe they are going to the same place. Their concepts of god / savior / messiah / prophet are all very different, though heavily based on the same thing. There isn't EVIDENCE of any god. Just random doctrines and mythologies. What makes them god? The same thing that makes your god, or anyone else's god "God." Faith... as absurd as it may be. Does it make them real, or true? Absolutely not... Worthwhile argument? You simply lack the comprehensive abilities to understand whats being debated here. Just because you believe something that makes you feel better inside that doesn't make it true. Such a feeble and all too common theist argument.
You're continuing to prove that your comprehensive abilities are subpar. Third? A plethora of other gods, maybe a god who created the earth and doesn't care at all about what happens afterwards, maybe freaking an alien test simulation, the possibilities are honestly endless. Pascals wager is one of the worst widely circulated arguments in theist philosophy. Clearly you can't grasp that. You brought up evidence, not me. I simply stated how all evidence for any god is equally non-existent. Tell me, do Christians, Jews, Muslims all believe that they are equally correct and will all go to the same heaven or the same hell? If you truly think that then you are under a foolish misapprehension. Revelation. hahahah... The Quran properly addresses these things? Yeah right. Moon got split in two? Types of waters don't mix? Winged horses? hahahaha Now you're simply wasting my time. This is obviously why this nonsense is so often ridiculed. Its your right to believe what you want, have fun with it... As far as the drawing board, I don't need to go there. Time and time again people around the globe have shown how ludicrous the ideas of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are. I don't really need to reinforce what is already known.
You're ignorant and you can't comprehend basic sentences... You're wasting my time. All gods throughout human history claim to have prophets, revelation, so on, and so forth. You clearly haven't ever spent a second trying to educate yourself outside of your realm of mythology. All gods are made up, poor attempts at philosophy and understanding, they exist purely in the imaginations of the humans who believe in them. God hasn't revealed a thing... None of the nonsense or revelation you mention or bring up has anything to back it up. I actually don't care if you believe in some random prophet on a winged horse... if you believe in any mythological tale then you clearly are ignoring reality... again, why you are wasting my time. "Truthspeak." Ha! What a silly lie.
WOW, This is the most concise, on -point, secular oriented Atheistic response to this question that I have ever heard enunciated in under 8 minutes. It's like you took every single thought in my head and chained them together in a cohesive way that perfectly states my position, and nullifies the argument entirely. I think every single Atheistic Speaker should see this video and begin incorporating these arguments verbatim. Well put. +1 add sub
+C. Venom If, after I die, it turns out to be the vengeful, jealous god of abraham who threatens non-believers with eternal damnation but, nevertheless, loves us, I'd be tempted to throw a bomb at that scumbag, despite being a man of peace.
@@spectre6291 Question stays. Which one? What if it is one of forgotten gods and tells that you (a christian or a muslim or a jew or any other) were not honest enough to strive for truth, you just followed like a blind, and you harmed the world by spreading bigotry.
When a faithful appeals to emotion by asking 'What will you say to God when you appear before Him to be judged?' I would identify the logical fallacy and reverse the scenario: What if there is no God and when you die all of your thoughts, memories and consciousness are eternally terminated? You will never know that you are dead. You will never know that you voluntarily wasted your one and only life in superstition, ignorance and needless fear. Also, your proselytizing would have condemned others, especially children, to the mental anguish of the threat of eternal agony and torture in a non-existent Hell. Children cannot distinguish between empty threats versus real threats, especially when the threat comes from someone they implicitly trust for honesty and they rely on that person for their survival and well-being. Such threats against children are horrific child abuse, because it leaves mental scars for life.

+UltimateBargains Exactly, I think the term eternal life means how you are remembered. Washington has eternal life and he is remembered in a good light. Hitler has eternal life but he us remembered as an evil being. How I will be remembered is important to me although I might not be eternal.
I swear, this sole video made me de-convert from christianity, the hard logic and passion in this video is so strong. He isn't like other atheists who act supreme to theists and consider them to be idiots. This is how all atheists should act, calm and ready to have a conversation, actually being interested in what the person says.
I think everyone would be a lot happier if religious people did their rituals, put up their little cross's, put forward their beliefs or whatever they do, in the privacy of their home/ church and not in public or on youtube. It's very offensive to the majority of intelligent, logical thinking people. Keep it private for sanities sake...
It's interesting how often people act like the only debate is between Christians and Atheists. Who's to say one of those ancient polytheistic religions isn't the right one? A lot of things in the bible are stranger than mythology. Just something to think about.
andrew welsh it's just the north america's and europe's main religion and most of the people i hear and see that answer this question are from NA or europe. it also covers a huge area of the world as seen here www.mapsofworld.com/world-religion-map.htm
Seriously, you are the first and only "non-believer" who I find more than acceptable. You are obviously very intelligent, sincere, and articulate regarding your thought process and reasons for why you believe as you do. I don't think I've ever been so impressed with anyone as I have been with you and this video. The vast majority of atheists are so arrogant in their diatribes regarding Christians. It almost seems as if they can only justify their non-belief in God by ridiculing and demoralizing those that do believe. In my opinion, that just makes them look angry and childish which then leads to me feeling that they have no credibility. You on the other hand speak only of yourself and your conclusions without degrading anyone else in the process. Your reasonings are sound and thoughtful but always applied to you. You are calm and seem to be comfortable in your own skin, and there is a kindness about you that I don't see in other "non-believers". You are an impressive young guy, and I applaud you for this video.
You should get to know more "non-believers". It's unfortunate that the ones you've met put you in that mind frame, but I can assure you my experience with "non-believers" is quite the opposite of yours. There are all kinds of people with all kinds of beliefs. Some Christians I know have been the nicest most sincere people I'll probably ever meet. But then, I also know Christians who holds signs about how gays will burn in hell, and seem quite pervertedly happy about it. I wouldn't wish eternal torture on anyone for a finite crime.
Will you listen to yourself? I don't know nor have I encountered any atheists who deliberately seek out people of faith in order to "demean" or "demoralize" them without provocation. I don't know you personally so please bear in mind that what I'm about to say is meant to be taken in a much broader context, and is in no way an attack on you directly. This idea that religious people have that attempts to portray atheists as insecure mean spirited bullies is one of the most asinine schools of thought, I've ever encountered; and I suspect you've never bothered to take a step back and truly consider just what it is you're actually claiming. It's perfectly acceptable for people of faith to publicly flaunt their beliefs without concern for the offense or annoyance it may cause others. Just like it's perfectly acceptable to force those beliefs on complete strangers, and condemn anyone who doesn't think the same way you do. However, the minute a nonbeliever defends themselves or questions your way of thinking.... then suddenly we're labeled as being prejudicial bullies. I've seen it my entire life, the minute someone questions you or has the nerve to bring scientific fact into the debate, then suddenly you're the victims. Never mind the fact that our arguments can be substantiated, whereas yours are mere conjecture at best, and never mind that religious people use their faith as an excuse for prejudice and bigotry in some of the most mean spirited ways imaginable..... Somehow we're the big bad atheist bullies whose sole purpose in life is to hurt your feelings. But for the sake of argument let's say you're right and atheist merely despise people of faith, and do everything in our power to ridicule and marginalize your way of life... WTF else would you expect from a group of people who have been ruthlessly and brutally persecuted for over 10,000 years? Were you to research the subject, you'd quickly discover that to your horror (I'd hope), no group of people in human history have been discriminated against and blindly slaughtered more than those who refuse to accept the existence of a divine entity/entities. Christians alone have burnt more than 2 million so called heretics, and that's just one example of the evil brutality they've employed to strike fear in the hearts of anyone who would dare question their beliefs... and that doesn't even touch on the number dead from things like stoning, hangings, drownings, beheadings, and methods of torture so cruel they'd make ISIS blush. It's estimated that in 2,000 short years, more than 250 million people have died at the hands of persecution and warfare fought exclusively in the name of Christianity, and it's not even as if those activities have ceased in the present day.... Just do some research on the atrocities still occurring in some third world African and Asian countries, towards individuals who demonstrate an unwillingness to become converts. Now let's look at something that hits a little closer to home. I nor any atheist I know has ever turned our back on a friend or family member simply because they're religious, nor do we refuse to befriend new aquaintances because of their faith. But do you know how many atheists have experienced one or even all of those prejudices from our loved ones?..... Every single one of us I've ever encountered! Yet somehow we're the bad guys and you're the victims? Get real! If you had to walk a mile in our shoes you'd quickly discover two things, 1; a person would have to be insane to CHOOSE to reject religion as an act of mere rebellion, and 2; we're the least prejudicial people on the planet and have only recently made the choice to fight back against those who would remove us from society all together if given the opportunity to do so. Finally... If being ridiculed or questioned bothers you so much, then why don't you just leave us the fuck alone instead of treating us like a broken piece of machinery that needs fixing? Maybe it's never occurred to you, but all of this is in your power to stop... Keep your beliefs to yourselves when outside the privacy of your homes and religious institutions, and I assure you NONE of this hostility would exist.
Brett Perry First, I don't know who the hell your comment is toward. I can only assume it is me because you left it under my comment. That being said, here is my response. Your diatribe is so full of holes and is so fucked up I don't even know where to begin. Bullies like that fucked up Bill Maher is an example of who I was referring to. And if you try to defend him then I immediately win the argument. And I was also referring to my OWN personal experience with atheists. And now I add you to the aforementioned list because you are nothing but rude, illogical, whiny, and typical of the atheists I've dealt with. Your first mistake is to assume that I am a Christian. I fell away from the church many years ago, and do not think that organized religion in any way, shape or form legitimizes God. So, I DO take everything you say personally, because everything you wrote was directly to me. Your comment "It's perfectly acceptable for people of faith to publicly flaunt their beliefs without concern for the offense or annoyance it may cause others." This is called FREEDOM you asshole and it is part of freedom of religion and freedom of speech which is guaranteed under the constitution. So please fuck off on that whiny line. NOBODY is forcing you to listen to it. No one holds a gun to your fucking empty head. And I guarantee that you still spend the currency which has the phrase "In God we Trust" with no problem and carry it with you daily right? Whether you like it or not, this is a free country where assholes like you can whine all you want about those big, bad, mean Christians who offend you. Last time I read the constitution, you DON'T have the right to not be offended. Why don't you just fucking man up and shut up? And now my FAVORITE lines of yours: "But for the sake of argument let's say you're right and atheist merely despise people of faith, and do everything in our power to ridicule and marginalize your way of life... WTF else would you expect from a group of people who have been ruthlessly and brutally persecuted for over 10,000 years?" So, you think you are the only ones who have suffered this??? Really??? Let's see. . .what about the Christians who were fed to the lions in Rome under the Romans? Christians have also been persecuted for thousands of years as well, so don't think you have that exclusively tied up either dick head. You obviously like to omit anything from history that doesn't just highlight your "perceived plight". Now on to another glaring point I have about atheists that you demonstrate. NOT ONCE did I see you write the word MUSLIM in your diatribe. NOT ONCE. ONLY THE WORD CHRISTIAN. I never hear your whiny asses ever refer to MUSLIMS, only to Christians. Why is that? You writhe in agony talking about how the Christians persecuted those of you with similar non beliefs. But laughably, you write this line: "Just do some research on the atrocities still occurring in some third world African and Asian countries, towards individuals who demonstrate an unwillingness to become converts." Yes brainy boy!!! Those "individuals" you are referring to are CHRISTIANS who refuse to convert and become Muslim. This line of yours alone shows how absolutely ignorant your examples are. In essence, using that as an example shows you standing up for Christians or at the very least "believers". I could go on and on about the ignorance displayed in the above bullshit you wrote. But I'll deliver to you what my problem is with atheists like you. You bitch and moan about having religion "forced" on you but then you turn around and use those same tactics against believers. Least you forget, you are in a minority. And the minority is always overruled by the majority. Period. And when idiots like you go after things like Christmas, and Christmas trees, and Nativity scenes, you bring wave upon wave of hatred to yourselves. Because you are all too stupid to realize that attacking things that are LOVED and CELEBRATED by the majority will only make you all look like the bullies and creeps most of you are. It's just like the blacks and gays (and by the way I am gay, so don't even think about calling me a bigot because I'm speaking out against gays). The reason their cause has taken so long and still to this day have no equality is for the plain and simple reason that they use "in your face" tactics to bully people into submission. And even when they get their way eventually, they are hated for it because all people remember is the "in your face" bullshit. So the racism will always be there and the bigotry will always be there because of it. YOUR LINE: "Now let's look at something that hits a little closer to home. Yet somehow we're the bad guys and you're the victims?" This can also apply to me being gay. But you will NEVER hear me whining about it. I have gained so much more respect by treating others with respect. Even those who "hate" my lifestyle. They have a legitimate right to think or feel whatever they want. Though I may not like it, they have the right. Just as you have the right to think what you think. And now my final thoughts based on yours. YOU WROTE: "Finally... If being ridiculed or questioned bothers you so much, then why don't you just leave us the fuck alone instead of treating us like a broken piece of machinery that needs fixing? Maybe it's never occurred to you, but all of this is in your power to stop... Keep your beliefs to yourselves when outside the privacy of your homes and religious institutions, and I assure you NONE of this hostility would exist." Where did I ever say I was ridiculed or questioned in my comment???? Your response to my comment, which was only complimentary to the video maker, is a prime example of what I was talking about with most atheists. Your attitude IS the problem. You are angry and disdainful and your hate shows. But, here was my most favorite line of that last paragraph of yours: "Keep your beliefs to yourselves when outside the privacy of your homes and religious institutions, and I assure you NONE of this hostility would exist." LOL You are no better with that remark than the people you are accusing of saying the same thing to you. So how does that make you any better then them? I'll tell you how it makes you worse than them. . .YOU are trying to take their constitutional right of free speech AND freedom of religion. YOU and your statements are EXACTLY the same as what you accuse them of doing to you. Now how can you possibly think any differently? So this is exactly why I think you are bullies and assholes. And quite frankly, not very smart ones. And the final difference between Christians and atheists is. . .When there is a confrontation between an atheist and a Christian, an atheists will stomp off cursing the Christian, but the Christian will go home and pray for the atheist. LOL You really need to go see someone to work out your anger and hatred issue. You aren't doing your cause any good. I respect the guy in this video. He is the reason I understand where atheists are coming from. You I have no respect for, because all I can see coming from you is hatred and bigotry which is only a big turn off. When you understand that, you'll finally "get it".
indycurt1 do not you understand English language??? or do not you understand what you read?? Brett clearly said: "I don't know you personally so please bear in mind that what I'm about to say is meant to be taken in a much broader context" Here and such way starts christian dishonest
Your essay was almost on a par with some of the great poetry of history. I had to keep looking to try & ascertain whether you were reading it, , had memorized it, or were speaking off the top of your head. It was most impressive for the many ways you explored all the aspects of this hypothetical situation. I can't wait to share this. Excellent and thought-provoking. Fantastic video.
Hey man, I am a firm believer in God and I have argued with people before over the matter. However, you come across so polite and thoughtful, I couldn't possibly challenge your beliefs. I truly admire your thought process. I think on religion very much, or at least I used to. Today, I have learned NOT to worry, not to think on everything too hard because no matter how hard we do, we all eventually die. No matter what our beliefs are, there is some sort of afterlife and in reasoning, every form of afterlife can be considered to be fantasy. Whether we sleep forever, become ghosts, go to Heaven/Hell, etc, we will all have an afterlife in one way or the other. I personally have chosen the path to God and I honestly try to help anyone I can believe in Him as well. But I won't throw a Bible at you, or scorn you. I am NO BETTER than anyone else. Not even in the least. I could go on and on, friend, but you get the idea. Thanks so much for the video and your patient, calm approach to the matter. Take it easy, man, and don't stop making videos.
I'm sorry you found my words offensive. I did't intend that, honestly. I decided to take down my post. You're right. I shouldn't of judged him the way I did.
The video is pretty lame. A sad sign of the level of ignorance and delusion in the USA. The guy should have asked and answered the primary question for himself long ago. He embarrasses himself by acting as if he doesn't know the actual answer that a reasonable well-read [*well read* = is fully familiar with all of the bible; both the sunny and the dark murderous stuff] person would give to his first question, which is known by several different names, one being 'Pascal's wager'. It's simply - 'What if you're wrong?' about there being no god of the bible. The guy on the video fleshes it out to asking what one might say to such an all powerful all knowing being. Here's what I'd do in such a VERY unlikely situation - I'd tell the being that I was aware of his centuries of terrorizing people, his unwillingness to save starving children; the willingness to allow the mutilation of babies' genitalia, the subjugation of women, his condoning of slavery, the bloody religion-based mass murders (including the slaughter of French Protestants on (and after) St. Bartholomew's Day). www.history.com/this-day-in-history/saint-bartholomews-day-massacre I'd tell him that he'd better have an amazingly good reason for killing all the people of the earth, save 8. He could have freaking fixed/forgiven them, but decided to murder them all in the most horrible ways of exposure, starvation, drowning, etc. What a guy. What a loving 'father'. 'Love incarnate' all right. ; / I'd tell that sick psycho that I was aware of his murder of all the first born living things of an entire nation. [Exodus]. I'd tell him there is no valid excuse, ever, for killing all those innocent beings that he had earlier taught were sacred. His sick hypocrisy would be pretty darn glaring. I'd tell him that allowing those adherents of Islam to murder thousands with those passenger jets made him one of the terrorists. I'd shed tears of rage, as I called him every dark, negative thing I could possibly imagine that might even remotely sting, hurt or kill the thing. I'd curse him for all time. There. There's your answer. ;)
Dan Lewis Nice. Doesn't, however, show any greater knowledge of the Bible than the maker of the video. In fact, shows some inconsistency of thought, especially as, if you are referring to "the god of the Bible," your reference to Islam is only consistent from a very limited point of view and not at all from the point of view of the standard Christian. Shows mostly a difference in attitude. But the attitude would be reasonable under the hypothetical circumstances. So, I suppose you can be forgiven for that. It would be the Christian thing to do. :-)
Have you an actual point? You're telling me that you don't see the insanity/delusion of the video as being a stupid waste of a deluded guy's time? Oh well. Maybe some day you will. We can hope.
I think I'm gonna have to keep the link to this video always accessible in case I run into Pascal's Wager again. You did such a good job forming the answer.
Pascal's wager is a fallacy. What the hell does belief have to do with morality anyway? The atheists that are wrong are the ones that think they can take the agnostic position of lack of belief and believe that a God(s) don't exist at the same time.
Where the hell did everyone go who died before Jesus arrived? Did they become ghosts? Did they all luck out and go straight to heaven? Or did they go to Hell because Jesus wasn't around for them to "accept" him?
The good went to a temporal Paradise and the bad went to a temporal Hades when Jesus was resurrected he went to the temporal Paradise and took all the good with him to Heaven. The bad are still in the temporal Hades awaiting the second coming where they will be judged and taken to Hell. Also, Limbo does not exist.
So the "good" huh? How were they good before Jesus came? The bible says you can only get to heaven by accepting Jesus Christ, not just by "being good". That means, those who went to temporal Paradise got a free pass to heaven for simply being "good" (whatever that is defined as). So after Christ's coming to earth, that means people can be just as "good" as those who were good before Christ, but still go to hell for not accepting Jesus? Makes no sense if you ask me
The bible tells us that you can only reach heaven by accepting God not just Jesus. That means the so called "good" were people who accepted God and asked for forgiveness for their sins.
Then what about these 2 scriptures? 1 John 5:13: "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." John 14:6: "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.". That is clearly a statement in the Bible that states you get eternal life in heaven through Jesus, not just by accepting a god. So that proves my point, if people are in a temporary heaven, then they essentially get an easier pass because it'd be easier to accept God if he was talking and speaking to people. Then, after Christ coming, they'd have better knowledge and awareness of the truth with regards to whether Jesus really was the son of God, so it'd be easier for them to believe/accept Jesus to get into heaven, since they're not confused by living in the world but in a temporary heaven with likely direct communication to God.
If i am wrong and GOD is half the good guy claimed he will understand and forgive. Then he will be proud that i became the good guy i did because i want to, NOT because im afraid to burn in hell. Then il simply ask the questions i could never know such as why we are here. Also like many other are saying what if it were another god such as Zeus, Odin, Allah, etc.
+Matthew Singh-Dosanjh - Hitchens was nuts, he called Christianity "evil". Wonder which bit of this he didn't like?- "Love one another, feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the destitute, tend the sick, visit the prisoners, look after the poor"- Jesus of Nazareth (Mark 12:30, John 13:34, Matt 25: 37-40)
+Tungsten Kid I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure "rape" and "slavery" are pretty fucking evil! And guess who endorsed those things? Your "God." "Oh, but that's in the old testament." That shouldn't matter though, right? I thought God was unchanging, all powerful, and all knowing? And the bible is the "Word of God" right? So either you're saying God was wrong and corrected himself, or that you full-heartedly believe in God's word, including rape and slavery. Should the later be true, then you are truly a psychopathic, mentally disturbed human being that needs a healthy dose of reality.
NunsenseStudios2110 The New Testament also endorses slavery. "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord." Colossians 3:22 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ." Ephesians 6:5 "Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh." 1 Peter 2:18
wait is this the guy from bold and the beautiful I swear I've seen him multiple times as I waltzed through the living room where my mom used to watch that show
If I'm wrong, then I suppose I will burn in hell. And I'm fine with that, I rather burn for an eternity than to be bound by the shackles of religion. I rather spend my short life discovering and learning about our vast amazing universe. I rather ask endless questions and search for those answers, instead of having one answer for every question in my life, and close my mind and eyes. If God does exist, why did he create my mind to have free will if he wants me to believe in Him and not question anything of His great divine power?
Simple because he is god! Who tf are you to tell god to change this or that? Be happy he have you free will and use the brain that he gave you to dip shit
Jacob Bocaj If god existed and truly wanted mankind to be lap dogs, he would have taken away free will long ago. Not to mention religion existed way before christianity with various gods. Your answer isn't the only one and statistically is the wrong one.
Sir, I am not sure how I came across you video, but I have to say, as a Christian, I accept your answer to my questions (though you kind of ruined it at the end with your final comment). I have to say you are right about God and what he would say and feel about your decisions. He does know you, and he will most likely accept everything about you in all your fine tuning......... There in lies the problem my good sir.... God accepts you and all your flaws, no matter how bad your flaws may be.... he accepts your reasoning and all the questions that come with it......but you could not take it upon your self to simply accept him, to truly accept him. That will be your missing link, that you would not fully just submit yourself to him and accept him to, to let his holy spirit fill you and GIVE you the understanding. It goes both ways, we already know that God accepts us and our sin, that is why Jesus died for our sins, but all we need to do is accept that.... instead you question him and deny him after all he has done. Now to your last comment, "Good thing I'm not wrong"......... Lets say you aren't wrong for the sake of taking the atheist side.... Now what? You died...... now what? That is it, your consciousness is gone..... there is nothing. So much happiness to think about now......
Yeah. Or you choose not to accept bullshit into your life and just enjoy life to its fullest. God would understand anyways, how scott preferred to pick the atheist side because the religious side didn't back itself up, and would limit his only life.
Replace all the times you said "God" in your post with "Odin", "Shiva", or some other god. If you don't immediately agree with the sentiment after switching your god with some other one, you understand how an atheist would view your post.
Pascal's Wager is a False Dichotomy. You're making the assumption that there are are only TWO possible outcomes when we die. 1. There is a god, heaven, and hell. 2. There is not a god, heaven, and hell. When in reality there are an infinite amount of possible afterlife scenarios if there is an afterlife at all.
BTW, how does one 'stand before' a timeless, formless, invisible 'spirit', and how would you know it was 'god', not having any conception of what 'god' could be?
***** The point is, how does one stand before a timeless, formless, invisible spirit, and how would you know it was 'god', not having any conception of what 'god' could be.
The question was not a criticism of one of my favourite UA-camrs, TBS, but of the very ideas contained in my comment, which have never been satisfactorily addressed, to my mind, by believers.
You believe that God's idea of compassion is worship him or you go to hell. I don't know what you've been told, but God doesn't send someone to hell as a form of revenge. To better explain, let me share a quote from CS Lewis with you: Sin is man saying to God throughout life, "Go away and leave me alone." Hell is God finally saying to man, "You may have your wish." It is God, leaving man to himself, as man has chosen. As shown, Hell is merely the separation from God, the separation from perfection. Without perfection or anything good, all you're really left with is a horrible, evil place, summed up in one place that we call Hell. You stated in your video that you found hundred of verses which you found "horrifying and seemed completely incompatible with the notion that they were inspired by a just and loving concerned with ensuring our salvation." There is, a flaw in your reasoning and,as I have previously stated, this flaw is the fact that you think you can even try to fathom such an infinite being. You said it yourself, that there are two word attributed with this being: Onmibenevolence and Omniscience. I, like you, am extremely curious and look at things from a logical perspective, and from experience, I can tell you that there is no way we can understand an entity that great, that awesome in power. We can't understand an all-knowing being unless we we omniscient ourselves. Since we're obviously not all-knowing, it just can't be done.
+Coppersplash Ahhh, the classic "Godfather Choice". If you don't give me your money I will blow your brains out. Hence, when you didn't give me your money I am not guilty of murder, YOU chose to die! Belief in this tripe is simply pathetic...
donfishmaster You're probably going to get as much response to your comment like me , but i would like to share a little story , which possibly is read by our counterparts , but will never lead to an reply: An native in a remote part of some jungle asked an priest once : '' If i had never heard of your god , would i go to hell ? '' The priest answered '' No , not if you never heard of him .'' '' Then why did you tell me ? ''
If God really was true then he would be the most unjust peace of shit, it's like telling YOUR child to wrodhip you and make all these dumb rituals just because you created him, that's not just people.
+Anthony Ornberg. I'm talking about the people that have so much money. So many of those people are greedy and selfish. Also one of the main reasons why a lot of bad stuff happens is because the government wants more money.
If I died now and found myself standing in front of God. I would ask him "take you long enough", you have all my life time to make me belief you real and you failed. Not just that, why take so much pain to conceal yourself? What if you are wrong, Christians. You live all your life through lies, chained by an invisible God, and looking forward to the invisible pie in the sky. Free yourself and live your life to the fullest and not be subjugated by imaginary ethereal dictatorship.
Alex Kok If there is no God then nothing happens when I die. But since God is real, I'm going to live this life to the fullest as I serve the God in Heaven. Jesus is the only way to Heaven btw...But ask yourself, can you accept the idea of burning in hell in 3000 degree fire? No one can sit in a car in the summer without A/C, let alone hellfire. See I can live with the idea of nothing happening. Nothing to fear about that. But I cannot live with the idea I'm making God angry then have to face God when I die. So in all if nothing happens, I win, and if I'm right I go to Heaven. Either way I win.
LeCheckmate what's pathetic is it matters to you what someone else does with their life. I don't see you saying evolution is pathetic as if a telescope can go back in time and see the creation of the world. I have many reasons to believe in God and Jesus. For one I've seen miracles. That's all the proof I need right there
I don't believe that there is God, therefore I don't believe in heaven or hell. These words are made up. Religion made up places like these to keep people in line. If you were born in the Middle East, you are most likely going to be an Islam. If you were born in Asia, you are most likely going to be a Buddhist, and if you were born in U.S. , you are most likely going to be Christian-especially if you were born in the deep south of America. I will be more than happy to be a Born Again Christian if you show one evidence that God exist, and don't just give me the Bible fairy stories that can be interpret to support one's agenda. Keep Christianity out of public arena like schools and politics. Build-up that wall, I believe in my constitution. Keep church and state separated like the way constitution meant to be.
Alex Kok Well can't put faith in the Constitution because they have added so many amendments the last 10 years that restricted many so called rights. All it takes is the Supreme Court to vote out something. Thank God I wasn't born into another religion. Cuz when I was young, I saw no difference. But now that I have learned of many religions, I see that all have patterned after Christianity. Can't say keep the state separate when the whole Country was founded on Christianity. Even the judicial system is based of laws of the bible. Now can we force people to believe? No. But we can't push evolution, atheism, islam in our schools and courthouses either. Can't deny one and allow the others to spread freely
What if you are wrong? Even if there was a god, what if the Hindus or the Muslims or one of the many thousand other religions that been fervently believed in throughout history. As an atheist trying to live a good life, but simply not accepting the concept of god, I think I would probably be in a safer place than you. After all, Christians have persecuted the believers of other religions for centuries. I don't think their gods would be to kindly disposed towards you.
Michael Sayad All religions are false and damaging.in the long run. The god of Christianity is no different. As for the bible, although it does contain references to certain historical locations and charaxters, for the most part, it is a work of fiction.
Honestman400 No. I mean, it's pretty convincing that when you take every other religion in the world and you compare it to philosophy(there being one God,etc.) or science(the Big Bang) it doesn't make sense, but Chrsitiantiy got it right.
Well, I can't go through everything, but it does fall in line with the big bang. For instance, athiests used to say that the world was eternal, but we obviously know that's not true now. Also, there are verses that talk about God explanding the universe. Now, if you look at what St. Augustine said to a skeptic: What was God doing before he created the world- St. Augustine said that he created time, too. This clearly fits in with the big bang- matter and time are created at the same time, in the big bang- in an expanding universe. Also, when you compare Christianity to other religions- such as the pagans who believed that there were different gods who were of this world. Then, the question still remains: Who created them? Philisophically, Chrstianity makes the most sense. You can also compare it with other religions- in that- there are 3 categories of religions- those who believe in both the universe and God(Christiantiy), those who only believe in a Universe(Buddhism) and those who only believe in a God or gods(Hinduism). Obviously, there is a universe, so Hinduism and other religions like it are clearly false. Buddhism is not even a religion and I know you would agree with them anyways so I'm not going to go through it. Now, if you look at the only religions that make sense- at least to me- Christianity, Islam, and Judaism- theologically only Christianity makes sense because God comes to the world in order so that we can become close to him rather than in Islam and Judiasm- having to get close to God on your own- which is impossible. Also, there are verses in the old testament that show God as three persons- so I don't realize why they won't accept Christianity. Also, if you look at the trinity- that is superior then saying that God is only one person because- think about in this way- if God is omnibenevolent then he would be dependent on humans in order to love. If he did not create us- then he could not love- except himself- which would make him selfish- rather than selfless- which you don't see in Christianity. Each person of the trinity loves one another- which means that God would not have to create us, but only did it out of love.
This is the best analysis on the subject "is there a God?" I've heard in a long time. Bravo! I took notes and hope to be able to use some the sound arguments made here in future debates and discussions.
If I died and stood in front of the christian god, I would say...hey dude...whaddup? He would say....sup....just chillin. then I go...cool...and be on my way. If, instead, he said... THOU HAS NOT WORSHIPED ME IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THE HOLY BIBLE INSTRUCTS...AND THOU HAS NOT BEEN BORN AGAIN IN BELIEF OF MY ONLY SON WHO HAS DIED FOR YOUR SINS, AND...blah blah blah...I would then go.....uh....right......I'm out,,,,later dude. THOU HAS OPPOSED ME AND WILL BE CAST INTO HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY. Cool....so you and your followers won't be there, right? NO, THEY WILL NOT. Cool. We're all good.
There are 1000s of Gods, who is to say yours is right especially since his story and most of the bible is copied from other religions. Here is a question for you. If we are as filthy rags and God cannot be around sin, how is he omnipresent, how is he everywhere at once? That means either there is no such thing as sin or there is no God. If you were right I would ask why did you make me to be so logical and rational. And if he is the God of the bible he killed over 2 million yet Satan killed 10. WTF?
I have a question. You assume that this "just god" would understand you entirely, in which it would, but it would still have an idea of justice, in which it has to deal justice as a blow to you for breaking the 10 commandments. Does anyone have an answer for this? Just curious.
To quote Jim Jefferies "god and the devil are having an argument and the devil's being the bigger man. Because god's just writing shit about him, and the devil's saying "I'm not even gonna comment son if you're gonna talk about me like that"
FourDeuce01 Actually according to the law of non contradiction both can't be right either one is right and the other is wrong.I'll bet on the side of christianity.
TheStrawbeery But if muslims are right, all three of us are screwed. What about if some small tribe in the rainforest is right? You are playing dangerous game trying to trick God(s). What if God likes honesty and he knows, that you are trying to trick him to save your ass? Think outside of the box.
+VJScope Muslims aren't right at all. They convert by the sword who in their right mind would think that they right when mohammed married a 9 year old. when they want to kill all infedels.Come on use your common sense.Common sense will tell you they are not right.Every knows that the christians are right that's why they were killled by nero. That's why christians are rediculed today.mocked in late night tv but the bible said this would happen. No one is playing games you don't play games with your soul.Thinking outside the box won't help you. Your just simply grasping at straws
Some of these comments make me so angry. "God constantly tests his followers and he is cruel." If you actually had done research the bible says that God is a God of wrath as well as He is of love. God doesn't want us to be automatically perfect in the snap of his fingers. He wants us to learn on earth the evils. The world has experienced such evils such as the Holocaust.
Reason can make a unreasonable person angry its pretty simple. Also when someone confronts your beliefs because they are ridiculous there is a good reason for it. Its not hard to understand why atheism is on a dramatic rise.
if he wants us to learn, then he is failing miserably it's like he crerated evil and he is constantly trying to get rid of evil but fails, doesn't sound like god to me
also pascals wager has one big countermeasure to it, the argument is about you should believe in god coz it wont be bad if you're wrong but then again there so many religions out there so you can never be certain to which one is right, so the pascals wager is an invalid argument
Romans 1 20 - 22 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened Professing to be wise, they became fools" His creation is evident in all things and yet men do not believe. Look at the human genome and tell me their is no design in it but rather one big accident. Now that's a pretty small branch to be standing on. Look at the evidence and use your own objective reasoning. God bless
What part of evolution is going to convince me that the code written in our genes happened by chance. What part of evolution is going to explain to me how there came to be an encoding machine within our bodies that creates instructions for certain needed proteins and then the decoding mechanism that takes those instructions and actually builds those proteins piece by piece and then bends them into the working shape they need to be. There's no such thing as a beneficial mutation. Whenever I comment on evolution I get the same reply ... you don't understand what evolution is. But there's never been anyone who's been able to educate me on what evolution really is. The debate of evolution is a tool of the devil. In his pursuit for the souls of men he sows seeds of unbelief and all he has to do is provide a little water. When you try to dissuade people away from the One true God by espousing contradictions to the Truth you've become the devils water. There's design in all things and can be clearly seen. The more we learn the more amazing those designs become and the more undeniable the One True Creator becomes. Do yourself a favor and humble your heart and pray to the Lord. Ask him to reveal himself to you and I guarantee He will. God bless
Your words speak volumes about your character. Regardless of what you believe you'll stand at the judgement seat one day and have to give an account of your life. Good luck.
Larry Rohloff I can respect where you come from on this matter, I imagine you were born into a christian family or perhaps something happened in your life that made you disbelieve in the common facts of life. however the case I understand what has led to your current line of reasoning. About the evolution thing I think you misunderstand how evolution works, Evolution is not a quick process and it happens in leaps and bounds as well as steps and crawls. The belief that it is "Random mutation" is an error by the person who coined the term, Livings beings change which we all understand. I may get a cold and I will probably get sick from that cold but after my cells have recovered they then know how to more easily get rid of that cold and so they have changed. The cold virus then next time may "evolve" by adapting the way it goes about attacking my cells and so the process repeats. In this sense you can observe evolution. Evolution is many many tiny steps over generations and I believe that many Christians do not understand how it works because of misleading media such as the "Missing link". We did not suddenly become humans from apes, No this process took generations upon generations of tiny tiny steps in evolutionary success that led to the humans we have today and in fact all animals we have today. To reiterate, Evolution is an unbearably slow process and I think this is what leads to such silly questions by religious people such as "well evolution cannot be observed". Well it damn well can, people get sick every single day and most recover with a better chance of fighting off that sickness the next time it comes around because their cells have evolved to better deal with that threat. The cells that don't evolve will die because they cannot stand against it like their evolved brother and sister cells. So that is the counter to you statement that "But there's never been anyone who's been able to educate me on what evolution really is". I encourage you to seek on your own better source material on what evolution is because it can better explain it in a book or web article than i can in a comment box but if you or anyone wish to know further of how it works you can email me at pomroymiller@hotmail.com where i would be more than happy to provide a more detailed description on evolution than "you don't understand what evolution is" I hope you all have a lovely day and i urge you all to properly seek if not the truth on matters of life/ science and philosophy then perhaps seek a better line of reasoning than "because it is written in the bible"
What a wonderfully articulate and well thought out answer. Anyone who finds fault in this response wasn't really listening. Touche' my friend. Touche'!
@ bdwilson1000 - I've listened to MANY HOURS of lecture and debate from intelligent atheists here on UA-cam (Hitchens, Harris, Dawkins, Dillahunty, etc). I've also read hours worth of user comment threads from many of these videos. Nothing I have read/heard is anywhere near as smart, sincere, accurate and eloquent as this 7:44 response to the question, "What if you're wrong"? Simply awesome.
A person who is confronted with their own mortality must make a choice whether to seek wisdom or to be confident in their own thoughts on the subject. If they decide to rest in their own understanding then who shall they blame if they are wrong?
there is a problem here why would the devil torment those who ended up in this so called hell ? if the devil was real wouldnt he accept those who followed him ? not torture ? seems like the devil n god were than working together ? if I were the devil I would welcome all in to fight against the other lol
The jest of this video is exactly what I have been trying to explain to religious people who have been trying to "save" me for years. Excellent video mate.
How to know which god is right' There are many immaginations of god: the India god Brahma. The greek god of Zeus. The ancient egiptian god of Ra. The hebrev gods of Jahve and El. Muslim god Allah. Many other gods. Why just only one particular should be right? Where is the evidence of it?
bakuya99 Yes it is if you didn't bother to read the bible or go to church. Christians warn people about God all the time but Atheists are too dense to listen.
Wow, lots of crazy follows this question everywhere I see it. So my question is, what if you're right Christians? You think going online and passing your judgements on your fellow man is the kind of behavior that gets you your fast pass to heaven?
Your are brilliant and absolutely and perfectly logical right about this. Plus your mode of expression about it is so very good. You have expressed all the things I have thought in the best way they could be expressed and far better than I could have expressed them. So wherever we both end up after this life, even if just worm food, would you save me a seat beside you so we could talk? Because I'd be happy just to listen to you for an eternity. You are truly a wise human being!
The video begins by creating a supposition of facing the Christian God. What if what you are facing is, in fact, an Islamic God instead? Or any other God? You will face a Christian God because you happen to have born to a culture with people who share the same idea of God? Or is it because you think the same way as the Bible teaches you will face the Christian God? How do we face different Gods? Will free thinkers face multiple Gods when they die?
Well-said, Scott. I hope (and indeed expect) that your parents are proud of you. As a childless 56 yr old bachelor, I'm certainly very proud of you. You (and various other young atheists, secularists, and freethinkers here on UA-cam) say more-or-less exactly what I'd say, but you have (very articulately & lucidly) beat me to the punch, so to speak. Little that I would say has been left unsaid. You're terrific, kid-o (and please don't mistake the 'kid-o' for condescension or patronization; rather, I mean it (as I'm sure you intuit) in a very fatherly or quasi-fatherly sort of way). Anyway, I enjoy your vids tremendously, and hope you'll continue to make 'em... ;-)
Nicely done. I just have to admire the irony in using the word "impeccably", because the root comes from "peccare" to sin, in Latin, when in fact, that is inherently religious, and the speaker of the video is in fact aiming to "avoid" religion.
First mature Christian I have ever seen by the way congrats on the subs and i don't know if he exists but there is no real physical evidence everyone pulls the shit that they have EXPERIENCED god. A lot of people in history have really felt these experiences of different gods so yea
@bdwilson1000- I watched your video and you took the words right out of my mouth. Couldn't have said it better. Very honest and personal. All theists should watch this!
Well if you had questions about the bible who did you go to for answers? God also knows your heart and he will know if you're believing in him to get out of punishment but if you truly ask for forgiveness and turn away from sin why shouldn't you be forgiven?
Thank you. You've put into words exactly what I think and feel - well, as close as another person could do of course. If I'm ever questioned about taking the path that lead me away from religion, and if I'm afraid of being wrong, I will (hopefully) remember this video, and send those people here. Your video is very interesting, you explained very well your thoughts. I have to say that as an Italian, I have never seen someone in Italy that hates athiests. I've been in a catholic Italian school before moving back to Britain and nobody there ever mentioned to hate atheists. In Italy hate toward atheists is basically absent even though there is the Vatican state. Respect to America, people in Italy are more tolerant and take religion less seriously (yes, I said Italians). People live their lives more chill and religion is not a big deal.
Why religion can be bad? I used to be satisfied just smiling and nodding whenever anyone would begin on the topic of religion. After all, I’m a civilized man - there’s no need to argue with someone over something as frivolous as their supernatural beliefs. I mean, it’s just not polite, is it? But over time, I started to see what religion is doing to the world in which we live. I’ll admit, at the grassroots level, it almost seems like a good idea; certainly, harmless enough. Religion provides a good deal of charity to communities, it offers support and guidance to those in need, and it fills advocacy roles which may be missed in government policies. But at what price? Before we continue, it’s not my intention to pick on any one religion - most of them have the same attributes: 1) belief in the supernatural, 2) a moral code with supernatural origins, and 3) the need to spread their “truth” to the uninitiated. The only religion that doesn’t fit the above three characteristics is Buddhism. Buddhism’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is quoted as saying “Don’t become a Buddhist. The world doesn’t need more Buddhists. Do practice compassion. The world needs more compassion.” By the way, I have studied and still studying Buddhism. So going back to my question, why religion can be bad? Well, here’s the thing - it isn’t so much what a person believes, but what follows as their behavior that is harmful. Followers of a religion tend to have a "pack mentality". They became rabid if there is an issue that go against their beliefs. Take a look at what's happening whenever there is an article about the Catholics. Religion is the systematic marketing of fear. Religions are also authoritarian hierarchies designed to dominate your free will. They’re power structures that aim to convince you to give away your power for the benefit of those who enjoy dominating people. When you subscribe to a religion, you enroll in a mindless minion training program. Religions don’t market themselves as such, but this is essentially how they operate. When you subscribe to an established religion, you have only two options. You can become an idiot, or you can become a hypocrite. First, there’s the idiocy route. You can willingly swallow all of the contrived, man-made drivel that’s fed to you. Next, we have the hypocrisy option. You immediately see the bad things other people do, but you tend to ignore, or even justify the bad things that you do. Religious rules and laws invariably hamper the development of conscience. This causes all sorts of problems like pointless violence and warfare. Those who preach nonviolence as a rule or law tend to be the most violent of all. Such people cannot be trusted because they’ll violate their proclaimed values with the weakest of excuses. Religion also hampers progress in Science and Medicine. They believe that anything they think are against their “holy books” is evil. They will immediately attacked it call it an atheist attempt to discredit God or even “playing God”. Take a look again on what “religious people” do if there are articles about the latest discoveries in science. But to be fair, people USED religion to justify their positions in order to gain followers and/or to feel righteous about what they are doing. I do not believe that religion is bad by itself. It is people in power who manipulate their members to hate other people are the main problem. If you will take a look at religion, they all teach to do good to other people and to believe in a benevolent deity. "Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" - Epicurus 341 BC
Simpson
Wow. Nice. You seem to be a really nice person and you don't seem to be filled with hatred towards religions like many other atheists do! You explained your reasons really nicely. Greetings from a christian :)
I say amen to that! I think you perfectly expresses the thoughts of many people who read the bible and thought "What did God do there?" Thanks man! Thumbs up from me.
If God really exists, then it's up to him if he sends me to hell or heaven. All I know is that I'm a good person, I help the poor, I try my best to be good. So if God exists and he sends me to hell even knowing that I was good person, while rapists, and murderers, etc enter heaven, then that's an evil God.
if you live a life full of sin and you havent asked for forgiveness. he isnt going to save you man
+Mental Carnage it doesnr mattwr if your a good person you dumbass. if you reject! jesus Christ you will not be saved. because you didn't let him. you reject him and he will reject you
+Mental Carnage and your an idiot. i dont know who gave you that garbage idea of how god is, but he wants to save you. You wont let him, hell is a place without god, wanna live a life without god? hell is that place
+Mental Carnage um no its called the truth, jesus talked about saving people from hell all threw the book of matthew. you think people can live a dirty life like murder, rape, etc and get away with it. you can IF you accept jesus and asked for forgivness. the biggest sin is the rejection of jesus Christ. you choose to love your sins more than god. god hates sin and he wants it destroyed in eternal damnation. you picked the wrong person to try to talk to about that garbage you first said
+Mental Carnage and i can give you verses on how ahtiests are "fools"
psalm 14 read that.
i can give you bible verses of gods existence very easy
genesis 1.1
i can also give you bible verses on sin corrupts people. want me to keep going?
don't try to use the bible against me because i will win buddy
If I died and was surprised to find myself in an afterlife to be judged by a God that does indeed exist, I'd have thousands of questions for him/her, beginning with;
Why did you make me an atheist?
Dan Moser Tell me can you prove the existance of love? Can you prove this very moment i love you?
You obviously can't but love exists.
outatis ater .. yes, the existence of love can be proven, depending on your precise definition of the word.. outside of my own personal experience of loving others and being loved by others, there are ways we can now physically measure electrical brain activity that corresponds to the love emotion. No such physical evidence for god. Your implication that .. since we can't prove the existence of love or god, and we know that love exists, therefore god does too .. is a very poor logical argument.
I would just tell "God" .. you were not very convincing lol
This is a very important matter.
+Conner Hankins your right fairy tales are important
HAHAHAHA XD
That's not a proper excuse mate! God will say to you "depart from me into everlasting fire" god can be proven through the bible prophecies that have come true, creation.
no the prophecies are bullshit famens are always happining and wars tell me one time of world peace and mockers have always excisted
+PICK UP YOUR CROSS Mathew 7:21-23 And I would say, "No problem. If your vanity trumps your compassion and mercy, I want nothing to do with you."
ATHEIST WAGER
Live a good life.
Every time we go to church we're just making him madder and madder.”
-Homer J. Simpson
Damn a simpsons reference
@Joseph yeah
If we are wrong, we are wrong. That's the end of it.
Jesse Thegamer .... and you're okay with burning in hell for all of eternity?
WOW, This is the most concise, on -point, secular oriented Atheistic response to this question that I have ever heard enunciated in under 8 minutes. It's like you took every single thought in my head and chained them together in a cohesive way that perfectly states my position, and nullifies the argument entirely. I think every single Atheistic Speaker should see this video and begin incorporating these arguments verbatim. Well put. +1 add sub
If I were to meet "God" after I die, I'd say, "Well, which one are you?"
Wut?
+C. Venom
If, after I die, it turns out to be the vengeful, jealous god of abraham who threatens non-believers with eternal damnation but, nevertheless, loves us, I'd be tempted to throw a bomb at that scumbag, despite being a man of peace.
You won't meet god. He meets you.
@@spectre6291 Question stays. Which one? What if it is one of forgotten gods and tells that you (a christian or a muslim or a jew or any other) were not honest enough to strive for truth, you just followed like a blind, and you harmed the world by spreading bigotry.
@John Taylor and which one is it in your eyes?
When a faithful appeals to emotion by asking 'What will you say to God when you appear before Him to be judged?' I would identify the logical fallacy and reverse the scenario:
What if there is no God and when you die all of your thoughts, memories and consciousness are eternally terminated? You will never know that you are dead. You will never know that you voluntarily wasted your one and only life in superstition, ignorance and needless fear. Also, your proselytizing would have condemned others, especially children, to the mental anguish of the threat of eternal agony and torture in a non-existent Hell. Children cannot distinguish between empty threats versus real threats, especially when the threat comes from someone they implicitly trust for honesty and they rely on that person for their survival and well-being. Such threats against children are horrific child abuse, because it leaves mental scars for life.
Awesome freaking response

+UltimateBargains Exactly, I think the term eternal life means how you are remembered. Washington has eternal life and he is remembered in a good light. Hitler has eternal life but he us remembered as an evil being. How I will be remembered is important to me although I might not be eternal.
Big Bosseseses How do you know you are right when a God is unknowable? You can say you believe in God but belief and knowledge are different.
Shut the Hell up.
What if you're wrong about vampires?? Why not wear garlic around your neck at all times.. just in case. That would be CRAZY huh?
I swear, this sole video made me de-convert from christianity, the hard logic and passion in this video is so strong. He isn't like other atheists who act supreme to theists and consider them to be idiots. This is how all atheists should act, calm and ready to have a conversation, actually being interested in what the person says.
infinity pool I agree , but we still consider religious people to be idiots' !!
peet vermeulen True, but it is easier to convince someone that they are wrong when you are not condescending
Agree again.
But here's the problem...they listen , but practicly never hear you.
peet vermeulen Goes in through one ear and exits through the other. So true yet again
Poseidon63 Is it possible that your comment is offensive against intelligent, logical thinking people?
No
Poseidon63 How do you know that your comment is not offensive agaisnt intelligent, logical thinking people?
Actually let me re phrase my question please. Why do you choose the path of an illogical thought pattern such as Atheism?
Captian Jack
Because intelligent, logical thinking people are intelligent, logical thinking people.
I would say "you gave me pain the moment I was born" I have EB disease but not the worst kind. -former Muslim guy
It's interesting how often people act like the only debate is between Christians and Atheists. Who's to say one of those ancient polytheistic religions isn't the right one? A lot of things in the bible are stranger than mythology. Just something to think about.
andrew welsh it's just the north america's and europe's main religion and most of the people i hear and see that answer this question are from NA or europe. it also covers a huge area of the world as seen here www.mapsofworld.com/world-religion-map.htm
andrew welsh let's just say a religion is a religion...there all the same....simply fairytailes.
peet vermeulen Sounds like you got it all figured out.
Paul Pena sounds like you are ignorant
Paul Pena
So your religion is the right one ?
Tell that to the billions of muslims or hindu's , clown !
You are absolutely correct.
indycurt1 do not you understand English language??? or do not you understand what you read??
Brett clearly said:
"I don't know you personally so please bear in mind that what I'm about to say is meant to be taken in a much broader context"
Here and such way starts christian dishonest
I'm an atheist. If I were wrong then, I'm wrong. There is nothing else i can really say to this.
That was a very well spoken video, I'm very happy to hear you saying what I've been thinking so well. Thank you.
I'm sorry you found my words offensive. I did't intend that, honestly. I decided to take down my post. You're right. I shouldn't of judged him the way I did.
No worries man. Sorry for the anger, and props to you.
Here's what I'd do in such a VERY unlikely situation -
I'd tell the being that I was aware of his centuries of terrorizing people, his unwillingness to save starving children; the willingness to allow the mutilation of babies' genitalia, the subjugation of women, his condoning of slavery, the bloody religion-based mass murders (including the slaughter of French Protestants on (and after) St. Bartholomew's Day).
www.history.com/this-day-in-history/saint-bartholomews-day-massacre
I'd tell him that he'd better have an amazingly good reason for killing all the people of the earth, save 8. He could have freaking fixed/forgiven them, but decided to murder them all in the most horrible ways of exposure, starvation, drowning, etc. What a guy. What a loving 'father'. 'Love incarnate' all right. ; /
I'd tell that sick psycho that I was aware of his murder of all the first born living things of an entire nation.
What if we both wrong? We get to the after life and it is Anubis?
Then pray he chooses a very heavy feather.
*****
Very good!
I think I'm gonna have to keep the link to this video always accessible in case I run into Pascal's Wager again. You did such a good job forming the answer.
Hell? this god doesn't believe in "Let the punishment fit the crime"?
That was an awesome display of understanding.
Amen.
what if only the atheists go to heaven because life was actually god's test to see who could think past dogma?
Perhaps, but we will never know.
That would never happen lmao
Pascal's wager is a fallacy. What the hell does belief have to do with morality anyway? The atheists that are wrong are the ones that think they can take the agnostic position of lack of belief and believe that a God(s) don't exist at the same time.
Where the hell did everyone go who died before Jesus arrived?
Did they become ghosts?
Did they all luck out and go straight to heaven? Or did they go to Hell because Jesus wasn't around for them to "accept" him?
Limbo
1 John 5:13: "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
John 14:6: "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
I would like Thor to be God instead. Who wouldn't like to see a giant hammer?
RandomHelpingGuy
That sounds sooo wrong..
Bernd Bananenbieger Or, you have a dirty mind. Just consider that possibility for a moment.
RandomHelpingGuy Indeed I have. ^^
Bernd Bananenbieger What is your conclusion?
This is essentially Pascal's Wager. Christopher Hitchens addressed it numerous times.
+Matthew Singh-Dosanjh It's been addressed several time by numerous people. The wager doesn't stand up to reason though.
+Matthew Singh-Dosanjh - Hitchens was nuts, he called Christianity "evil". Wonder which bit of this he didn't like?-
"Love one another, feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the destitute, tend the sick, visit the prisoners, look after the poor"- Jesus of Nazareth (Mark 12:30, John 13:34, Matt 25: 37-40)
+Tungsten Kid And now read the rest of your bible. You will find out. I advise you to read it thoroughly. Question everything you find.
+Tungsten Kid I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure "rape" and "slavery" are pretty fucking evil! And guess who endorsed those things? Your "God."
"Oh, but that's in the old testament."
That shouldn't matter though, right? I thought God was unchanging, all powerful, and all knowing? And the bible is the "Word of God" right? So either you're saying God was wrong and corrected himself, or that you full-heartedly believe in God's word, including rape and slavery. Should the later be true, then you are truly a psychopathic, mentally disturbed human being that needs a healthy dose of reality.
NunsenseStudios2110 The New Testament also endorses slavery.
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord." Colossians 3:22
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ." Ephesians 6:5
"Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh." 1 Peter 2:18
wait is this the guy from bold and the beautiful I swear I've seen him multiple times as I waltzed through the living room where my mom used to watch that show
Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst.
Thomas Paine
Jacob Bocaj Hell is people like you.
matt miles You are a MORAN!
Moron*
Jacob Bocaj If god existed and truly wanted mankind to be lap dogs, he would have taken away free will long ago. Not to mention religion existed way before christianity with various gods. Your answer isn't the only one and statistically is the wrong one.
Damn, this guy is well spoken.
Keeping this one as an example of 'how to do it.'
When it all comes down to the end, we will ALL
have to stand before the "Flying Spaghetti Monster" and confess our sins.
Joel Joedeman/ agreed. you have a very good point here :) Thank you
Yeah. Or you choose not to accept bullshit into your life and just enjoy life to its fullest. God would understand anyways, how scott preferred to pick the atheist side because the religious side didn't back itself up, and would limit his only life.
He said in the video that your mythology makes no sense to him at all. How can you expect him to submit to something that is utter nonsense to him?
Replace all the times you said "God" in your post with "Odin", "Shiva", or some other god. If you don't immediately agree with the sentiment after switching your god with some other one, you understand how an atheist would view your post.
This guy should be the Atheists spokesman. He can be our representative in debates. That way, Christian females might listen.
Atheists don't need a spokesman. We can speak for ourselves. :p
FourDeuce01 That's true. We're honest people anyhow.
FourDeuce01 Some of us aren't quite as elegant as this guy, though...
"Females"? Really? They're not a different species, you know.
Ilse Gort I know, but they'll be distracted by his attractiveness.
That was Pure poetry
This was amazing.
How do you know you're right tho?
+Ed Nti The Lord, God is a fair, loving father, if you cant see it you will when you're stuck in the flames of hell... God's giving you a choice.
+Coppersplash Ahhh, the classic "Godfather Choice".
If you don't give me your money I will blow your brains out. Hence, when you didn't give me your money I am not guilty of murder, YOU chose to die!
Belief in this tripe is simply pathetic...
donfishmaster
You're probably going to get as much response to your comment like me , but i would like to share a little story , which possibly is read by our counterparts , but will never lead to an reply:
An native in a remote part of some jungle asked an priest once : '' If i had never heard of your god , would i go to hell ? ''
The priest answered '' No , not if you never heard of him .''
'' Then why did you tell me ? ''
I'm personally holding out for Dionysus - the god of wine.
If God really was true then he would be the most unjust peace of shit, it's like telling YOUR child to wrodhip you and make all these dumb rituals just because you created him, that's not just people.
*worship you
He is a perfect judge but do not get it wrong that he loves you my friend
+Anthony Ornberg he doesn't cause people to die. he let's things happen to get people's attention
+Anthony Ornberg. Because there are so many greedy and selfish people.
Eye Washere So you believe in a god because you're afraid of hell? That's your best reason? That is incredibly pathetic.
LeCheckmate
what's pathetic is it matters to you what someone else does with their life.
Alex Kok
Well can't put faith in the Constitution because they have added so many amendments the last 10 years that restricted many so called rights.
Well, considering that all the other religions have so many problems theologically, the God of Christiantiy is the best candidate.
Michael Sayad How exactly has Christianity got it right?
Cool. We're all good.
bizmark D lol I love u and I'm a christain
There are 1000s of Gods, who is to say yours is right especially since his story and most of the bible is copied from other religions. Here is a question for you. If we are as filthy rags and God cannot be around sin, how is he omnipresent, how is he everywhere at once? That means either there is no such thing as sin or there is no God. If you were right I would ask why did you make me to be so logical and rational. And if he is the God of the bible he killed over 2 million yet Satan killed 10. WTF?
"Christians...what if your wrong??"
"Muslims...what if your wrong??"
"Xbox fans...what if your wrong??"
"pewdipie...what if your gay??"
I have a question.
You assume that this "just god" would understand you entirely, in which it would, but it would still have an idea of justice, in which it has to deal justice as a blow to you for breaking the 10 commandments.
Does anyone have an answer for this? Just curious.
To be honest, if Satan and God are real, pretty sure Satan would win.
There's a good argument that this God of Abraham behaves like Satan would
HughJaxident67 I heard that too, interesting to muse about but it's not really worth the time.
To quote Jim Jefferies "god and the devil are having an argument and the devil's being the bigger man. Because god's just writing shit about him, and the devil's saying "I'm not even gonna comment son if you're gonna talk about me like that"
i'm going to hell if i'm wrong
that's it
Only if the christians are right. We could both be wrong.
VJScope I like puppies :P
"He wants us to learn" Then he can tell us what he wants. If he's a god, that should be easy for him.
Reason can make a unreasonable person angry its pretty simple. Also when someone confronts your beliefs because they are ridiculous there is a good reason for it. Its not hard to understand why atheism is on a dramatic rise.
if he wants us to learn, then he is failing miserably
it's like he crerated evil and he is constantly trying to get rid of evil but fails, doesn't sound like god to me
PINKE Worship is an unnecessary action always.
MrSumbody69
"Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." Exodus 34:14
also pascals wager has one big countermeasure to it, the argument is about you should believe in god coz it wont be bad if you're wrong but then again there so many religions out there so you can never be certain to which one is right, so the pascals wager is an invalid argument
Romans 1 20 - 22 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened Professing to be wise, they became fools"
His creation is evident in all things and yet men do not believe. Look at the human genome and tell me their is no design in it but rather one big accident. Now that's a pretty small branch to be standing on. Look at the evidence and use your own objective reasoning.
God bless
No evidence dude , just an observation and saying god did it.
Good luck.
Larry Rohloff Citation needed for that.
I encourage you to seek on your own better source material on what evolution is because it can better explain it in a book or web article than i can in a comment box but if you or anyone wish to know further of how it works you can email me at pomroymiller@hotmail.com where i would be more than happy to provide a more detailed description on evolution than "you don't understand what evolution is"
I hope you all have a lovely day and i urge you all to properly seek if not the truth on matters of life/ science and philosophy then perhaps seek a better line of reasoning than "because it is written in the bible"
What a wonderfully articulate and well thought out answer. Anyone who finds fault in this response wasn't really listening. Touche' my friend. Touche'!
this is a masterpiece. helped me a lot with my personality development and view on the world. even if it is nearly 10 years ago, thank you!
That was one of the most eloquent and well thought out arguments against the existence of the xtian god I have ever heard. My compliments to you, sir!
Wow!!!! That was a well thought threw response. I agree wholeheartedly!
You are an excellent speaker and possess an unusual amount of common sense. I enjoyed that video very much. Thank you for making it.
A person who is confronted with their own mortality must make a choice whether to seek wisdom or to be confident in their own thoughts on the subject. If they decide to rest in their own understanding then who shall they blame if they are wrong?
It is amaze me how can it be possible that someone be so intelligent, putting thoughts and words together so beautifully. I wish I could do that.
Humbling and thought provoking..one of the best if not the best response to pascals wager I've ever had the privilage of hearing.
there is a problem here why would the devil torment those who ended up in this so called hell ? if the devil was real wouldnt he accept those who followed him ? not torture ? seems like the devil n god were than working together ? if I were the devil I would welcome all in to fight against the other lol
The jest of this video is exactly what I have been trying to explain to religious people who have been trying to "save" me for years. Excellent video mate.
Pure brilliance, tied together all my thoughts with complete comfort; thank you.
Excellent! This might be the best response I've seen to this question.
If i were to die and there was the god of christianity and i was wrong... well god would be getting the biggest middle finger from me personally.
I'd tell him you weren't that convincing:P
He'll tell you that you were too stupid to listen.
Marlon White It's not my problem that people weren't convincing
bakuya99 Yes it is if you didn't bother to read the bible or go to church. Christians warn people about God all the time but Atheists are too dense to listen.
Marlon White I used to do that the bible itself turned me atheist
What if you end up standing in front of Ba'al, or Jupiter or any other of a thousand deities that people have worshiped.
Wow, lots of crazy follows this question everywhere I see it. So my question is, what if you're right Christians? You think going online and passing your judgements on your fellow man is the kind of behavior that gets you your fast pass to heaven?
"You dont have to die to meet your maker" Some Grandma at a fish and chip shop while waiting for a steak sandwich and a grilled flake.
Seams that, apart from wisdom, God gave you good looks as well. You are one truly blessed soul.
dude you put a lot of thought in this and had great answers
Your are brilliant and absolutely and perfectly logical right about this. Plus your mode of expression about it is so very good. You have expressed all the things I have thought in the best way they could be expressed and far better than I could have expressed them. So wherever we both end up after this life, even if just worm food, would you save me a seat beside you so we could talk? Because I'd be happy just to listen to you for an eternity. You are truly a wise human being!
than God will accept me and forgive me for my sins right?
Anyway, I enjoy your vids tremendously, and hope you'll continue to make 'em... ;-)
Well spoken. So young and yet with the knowledge so few manage to collect and understand in a lifetime.
Nicely done. I just have to admire the irony in using the word "impeccably", because the root comes from "peccare" to sin, in Latin, when in fact, that is inherently religious, and the speaker of the video is in fact aiming to "avoid" religion.
It is beautiful. And many thanks for the transcript.
First mature Christian I have ever seen by the way congrats on the subs and i don't know if he exists but there is no real physical evidence everyone pulls the shit that they have EXPERIENCED god. A lot of people in history have really felt these experiences of different gods so yea
I couldn't agree more sir......What an erudite, well thought out and well executed speech! Inspiring!!
@bdwilson1000- I watched your video and you took the words right out of my mouth. Couldn't have said it better. Very honest and personal. All theists should watch this!
You have a wonderful grasp of this. You are wonderful. Thanks for making this video!
Honestly started to bring me to tears near the end, very good video.
I know I’m a lil late to the game, but who is this person?
Well if you had questions about the bible who did you go to for answers? God also knows your heart and he will know if you're believing in him to get out of punishment but if you truly ask for forgiveness and turn away from sin why shouldn't you be forgiven?
Thank you for providing a video that explains my response, you have earned a sub
Thank you. You've put into words exactly what I think and feel - well, as close as another person could do of course. If I'm ever questioned about taking the path that lead me away from religion, and if I'm afraid of being wrong, I will (hopefully) remember this video, and send those people here.

Wow, well said! I have felt the same as you but I could never have expressed it with the eloquence and intelligence you have shown. Impressive!
I would very much like to shake this mans hand and hope to have a very long conversation hopefully to where I may share what I know.
What a wonderfully eloquent explanation of "Atheists...What if you're wrong??" And an even better sign-off :)
I think your thoughts are very good and superbly reasoned. Excellent.
This is so good. Never saw the problem under that angle and this is brilliant. This brain of ours is amazing.
That was awesome and really well articulated.
@ 0:06 actually it's Zeus. But he is often on vacation and chooses one of the other 5000 Gods for this Job.
Then why call him God?" -
Epicurus 341 BC
ATHEIST WAGER
Live a good life.
Every time we go to church we're just making him madder and madder.”
-Homer J. Simpson
Wow. Nice. You seem to be a really nice person and you don't seem to be filled with hatred towards religions like many other atheists do! You explained your reasons really nicely. Greetings from a christian :)
I say amen to that!
I think you perfectly expresses the thoughts of many people who read the bible and thought "What did God do there?"
Thanks man!
Thumbs up from me.
