Once i can get 150+ miles a charge, and that charge doesn't take hours i might consider it. Until then I'd rather gas up in 5 minutes and go. The torque is appealing, but the lack of that 2 stroke sound is not.
Another drain on our already inadequate power grid? Anyways, for now, I don't think the mom-and-pop gas stations and restaurants/bars in northern Minnesota where I ride can afford to install 100 electric charging stations for sleds. Some places we stop literally have 50 - 100 sleds parked outside! Out of juice? Now what do you do? This technology needs to be managed responsibly.
150 sleds? You should find another place to ride to "get away from it all". But I agree, without longer range and charging infrastructure, it will be at least a decade until we see these models suitable for consumers.
Everybody out here complaining for their 850s. Our town has 300 homes with snowmobiles, most of which have never left a 2 mile radius of their house. Electric snowmobiles would be perfect here. Can't wait.
Makes perfect sense for Ski Mountain resorts that do short range guided tours, roaming equipment inspections, and have access to lots of charging outlets. Has the potential to cut a lot of maintenance costs.
Ski Mountains do guided tours which are short range rides. Electric sleds are perfect for mountain resorts since they start/stop travel short distances and have lots of locations for power access.
What a great idea for Ski-doo to partner with tour companies to get their feet wet with electric sleds. They don't need the range for that application, it's a huge win for the tour companies and it allows Ski-doo to get good at building e-sleds while they wait for the EV car industry to squeeze more power and energy out of lightweight batteries. Then when the battery tech catches up they'll be ready to go. Brilliant.
@@rods907 I'm not exactly in the market for an electric snowmobile however I don't think it's up to you or anyone else to decide what somebody else buys The tone of the article was to discuss low-cost snowmobile rentals.
You guys should partner with the outfitters that take people on guided tours inside Yellowstone National Park. Currently they only allow 4 strokes bcuz of noise and emissions. I'd bet my bottom dollar they would die to transfer everything to electric!
Comments be like: “until we replicate the miracle that is fossil fuels with batteries, this bad” Yeah, no sh*% Sherlock, the entire planet is praying for batteries with the energy density of fossil fuels. Thanks for your incredible insights pal.
Ski-Doo is industry leading and it is amazing that you have produced an electric sled……however Governments don’t understand the concept, they just think zero emissions is something that has to be attained in an unreasonable time frame. Canada does not have the infrastructure, nor the climate that promotes efficient use of electrified vehicles. Also, there are environmental impacts to production and lifecycle of batteries that no one is talking about. We cannot generate enough power to accommodate air conditioners in large urban cities and now we want to add millions of electric vehicles…..common sense is not so common anymore. Build the infrastructure, make electricity less expensive to generate and then guide manufactures down a road of reasonable emission targets.
Nay Sayers still out there still I guess... Best thing I ever bought are our Electric Cars...! 50 Bucks a month instead of over 900 a month, no oil changes or brake jobs in the last 5 years..! No more BIG OIL to rip me off... Time to get with the best thing ever for our environment. Can hardly wait for the all electric Mountain Sled!
The future is now! I'm not sure I'll ever own one, hard to justify when you live somewhere on diesel generators and very cold temperatures and long distances to cover. But hey, if you need a field tester in Arctic AK, hit me up!
The thought of having a buffalo 🦬 staring you down,,,, and hit the throttle and E. Might want to have a good lawyer draw up pre trip liability sign off sheet.
So did he imply that electric snowmobiles will open new territory that is currently off limits? So my current sled leaves tracks and emissions not visible by human eye. Electric snowmobiles still produce tracks but lower emissions produced by the electric company supplying the power. I bet any money the gates put up by tree huggers will still be there. And those who closed their land to trails for riders who could not stay on trail will not just let trails pass through their lands again. Maybe the ones that closed trail to loud pipes but that is very small sections of trail.... How about the biggest issue? It takes a couple minutes to fill a gas tank and pull forward for the next guy/gal, imagine that long ass line when it takes each sled 20-40 minutes to charge.... Ugg
Interesting... ski doo vs taiga... who knows maybe Polaris, arctic cat, or Yamaha decides to get on the electric band wagon... maybe they already have.
Full specifications will be released at a later date, as this vehicle is exclusive to select Uncharted Society outfitters at this time. However we can share that it's actually lighter than a standard internal combustion powered snowmobile when you add in the weight of fuel and oil.
Been doing the snowmobile thing since 1962. Seen lots of advances and misses in our sport as have many of you fellow riders. Once all of these obstacles have been overcome, then and only then will I even open an electric snowmobile brochure (hear the word brochure BRP!); 1) Range of at least 150 miles 2) Full recharge in less than 10 minutes w/o damage to battery pack 3) Zero battery degradation meaning as with a gas tank it holds the same amount of ‘fuel’ 20 years later as the day I bought it 4) No weight penalty for having a battery operated sled 5) Equal refueling infrastructure as to what we enjoy today.
Here they are! Unfortunately the Grand Touring Electric is an exclusive to our Uncharted Society Outfitters stay tuned to uncharted society website to learn more about locations where you can ride one.

I mean it's cool and all but let's be honest, nothing will ever replace the sound of an 850 turbo 🤙🏽
Im hoping a triple cylinder will be brought back for an edition. that would have the potential for better soundage

the electric snowmobile will not work for people who ride long trails like up in Maine or mountain ride you wont find a charging station anywhere
This is like heading out with 1/4 tank of fuel everytime..
Good for the farm, maybe ski hill, for now...
thats what its meant for, people are acting like these things will take over 2 strokes whcih they never will

put a gas generator on a trailer behind it to charge it up 10 times a day -------pass
I can see search and rescue is going to be running helicopters out all the time just to recover sleds with dead batteries, I'll stay with gas thanks..
When is the last time you ran out of gas? Watch your gauge.
@@ChitFromChinola that's why we bring spare fuel...
No one is going to run out of battery. They will watch their gauge.
what happens when you run out of fuel? and when you do find a pump it likely is powered by electricity

I'm quite sure they use lithium batteries, not extension cords .

The average snowmobiler does not drive very far it would be perfect to 90% of people

If it had longer range it would be perfect in alaska or Canada... lack of sound means you can sneak up to animals while hunting
