Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid in 1985 and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

Cat Stevens wrote this song, in 1967. Great music never gets old.
Cat Stevens I saw him at Madison square garden in 1974 and he looked minuscule because I didn't have a lot of money for tickets.... He is an amazing singer songwriter ... Sheryl Crow is also in the same amazing and original just like at Stevens
He wrote it earlier than that but never recorded it. He let a lady named PP Arnold record it first and she hit with it. Then he recorded it shortly after

So true. But we can get to enjoy another rendition that gives tribute to the original. Mind you, a number of artists have respected this great piece of music.
