My late husband and I traveled this years ago. I came out to California in 1960 with my family in a 1959 Chevy ...five girls and our mom and dad. A real long way from Flint , Michigan. Brings back memories ..Thank you.

i have travelled from OK to NV on I-40 and it was one of the most amazing unforgettable trips in my life. and one day we will do that road trip again and this time its going to be from Canada to USA. I really enjoyed your video .. brought back good memories.. thank you
yes i believe so.. hopefully next time when we can (we have too many pets at home to leave and take road trip) we plan to travel from Calgary (Alberta, Canada) to OK (thats where we used to live) and from there i need to cover much states as possible. We have taken road trips from OK to LO and OK to NY, OK to WY, UT and covered that section and then OK to LA. And many more but couldnt really explore so many states.. thats my next dream. One day. We usually try not to take highways which hides most of the mysterious stuff but some times no choice.. thank you so much for your advise. i hope you get to make more road trips and post them.
This entire roadtrip is very well done. It had my full attention from the start to end. I wound up learning alot about the route 66 that people forgot about.

I still didn't finish your video, but just finished watching the movie, and it was such a great experience! Not because of the story itself, but because of what the movie means! Not many people will ever recognize the real message of the movie... Such a great cast! Great to hear Paul Newman and George Carlin again! I got many references, but probably missed a few. After finishing your video, I might watch the movie again... One day I'll be visiting all of these places. And that's probably why I appreciated the movie so much. Thanks for memories - drove from western NY to Huntington Beach CA in 1971 with a pickup I bought at an auction and built a camper on the back. The Interstate wasn't done yet. Unfortunately you couldn't find a jackalope........
Excellent!!! Makes me want to make the trip myself. You also got a couple shots of some "rare" gas stations in Tucumcari NM at 10:20 and in Amarillo TX at 15:00. Both were Phillips 66 Batwing style gas stations. I want to see Cars now.

I used to drink in the old bar in Glenrio. I worked on a ranch in Adrian, TX (dry). It simply had a small bar and a pool table. It would fill up with cowboys on Fri. and Sat. nights. No girls just cowboys. Beer flowed freely and fights were frequent. Occasionally bikers would pull in and it meant that it was time to leave.
From a historical perspective, you are going the wrong way. :) I plan on taking a road trip from Michigan to Utah to visit my distributor this summer, and taking as much as 66 as I can for nostalgic reasons, (at least one way), so thank you for the load.
it's a strange assumption that people would only drive westward on the 66, but for decades the 66 was traveled by vacationers going both ways. also, there were plenty of people that started out west and moved east
The other little piece of trivia that I read about Glenrio was that like your said, the New Mexico side had the beer joint because the Texas side was "dry" but the Texas side had the gas station because New Mexico gas taxes were much higher than Texas.
You did a great job. I've been up and down 66 a few times. You hit a lot of the high points and gave a good sense of the journey. I cannot the imagine the douches that downed this. That town square in Springfield, Mo. is where Wild Bill Hickok shot it out with Dave Tutt in one of the very few documented Old West High Noon gunfights
Great question! The Wigwam of course was the traffic cone/teepee resemblance. But, the Blue Swallow influence is more subtle--it was the neon, specifically the "100% Refrigerated Air" sign
thanks for sharing . i lived in glendora ca where rte 66 was alosta ca.(there was a town called alosta that got gobbled up by glendora.). alosta is now called rte 66. got put out of business by the 210 freeway.

Well, in 1992 I entered Rt66 near Oatman. It was the 66th Anniversary. It was June 6, I was going 66mph at 6:06 AM with my 6 yr old son. And I was 42 yrs old. (4+2=6) I had a 1959 Corvette. It was one lonely drive. Didn't see a soul. All the way to Seligman. It was Very green that year and Flies were Everywhere. It can never happen again. So, I got my kicks
That statue on side of building in Amarillo is a Shriners Hospital for children icon. This one is rare because this is usually only done as a from rear view only. "No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child"
I was born/lived in Tulsa and we had family in Albuquerque. First trip I remember on 66 was when we had a 56 Chevy and NO A/C. Most of the time we would just meet in Amarillo. They had a nice little park where we would have a picnic, spend the day and then head back home. Fun times.
We did this route (but going Westbound) back in 1997 and at that time, while interesting, we felt that we were about 20 years too late. Many closed places but when we stopped for gas or food or lodging, we found the people damn glad to see us. Some places we enjoyed more than others. Oatman was interesting and some trips to Vegas, we spend a day or 2 in Laughlin and drive over to Oatman to see the burro's and the old shops. The burros are really friendly (and pushy) if you have food for them. Great video, especially with the references to the Cars movie.
You should have stopped in, Cuervo, NM, I did, an awesome ghost town to be seen there. My buddy and me, just got back from a trip from MO to Albuquerque, NM. Great video of the sights you captured here.
While I was stationed at Fort Knox we found an old part of Route 66 on the base. It's in a range area that is rarely used. Was very neat. Also found some very old house foundations and a couple flattened model T's. Only found out it was a part of 66 due to a old sign from the 70's ish stating its significance.
I graduated HS in 1966 in the mid west.and my dream was to travel 66 to ca. I left the day after graduation. I always drive 66 when I go back. I live outside of Oatman now and when I First hit that winding road I was scared stiff.
I have REALLY enjoyed this video!! Hopefully, when my wife retires and we buy our first RV, I'm hoping we can trace your steps westward from some point! I especially love the little bitty gas stations. We had one in my hometown, as well! It was a Sinclair station to my knowledge, and is still there. But, it's no longer a filling station, I believe the Chamber of Commerce or a Realtor uses it.
Any restaurant named "EAT" 28:55 is sure to have good food. That's where you want to stop. Had one in my home town in the 60's and we called it the Eat Place.
