- This travel tripod is SO LIGHTWEIGHT it blows the mind! Wow. I just got back from a trip and experienced the joy of using it on location and LOVE it!
If you hike or do photography or video outdoors on location or hiking and travel a lot, this is the most lightweight tripod you can get that goes up 5 ft.
If you are looking into travel gear for photography, check out the Fotopro Aircross 3 tripod. The Fotopro Aircross 2 is just as good and 20 dollars cheaper.

This guy is one of the goats of youtube photography.
You have no idea how much I'm thankful for all this work that you do!!! Thank you.
Happy to help!
I had a client, who previously worked in Hollywood, tell me my light stands were flimsy. We did the shoot (interview) at her location, she loved the result. Never heard another word about my light stands. I'm with you 100%, Markus.
Hollywood productions need heavy duty stuff because there is too much at stake, but for small time people like us, we are free to do whatever we want
I ended up buying one of these tripods last year (after watching this video) replacing the top part with a compact fluid head and have been using it extensively for all of my studio and travel work for my UA-cam channel over the last year. My camera and lens weighs about 1200g combined and it’s been holding up beautifully.
I was skeptical of the leg locking mechanism and its ability to hold up over time, but after a full year of use it’s still as good as the day I bought it.
Thank you for featuring this tripod, because I would have never known that there was a better leg locking mechanism than the old latching or twist locking mechanisms that require a lot more operations to unpack.
One note, when I first got it I was really wrenching down on it to lock the legs, but eventually figured out i don’t need to do that. Just a little twist and they stay in place very well. It can handle more weight if you really crank on the legs, but really a tripod never sees much more than 10N of loading, and when you overload these legs they just kind of slip a little, but hold there position well enough that it’s not going to cause the whole rig to collapse.
I am so grateful for your video. I picked up the tripod (the newer one with the lower profile) and used it in Amsterdam to do night shots on the canals. It was so light to carry, and easy to open and close in the dark. Thank you Markus! LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel.
Glad it was helpful!
You are definitely a master of your craft.
I just love your videos. Even if it's not relevant to what i'm interested in. Been watching for years. Love your work Markus.
A whole new meaning to traveling light. That Ulanzi is awesome. Love your content. Thank you for the review. Learning a lot.
Very informational video about lightweight, I experienced travelling with my tripod and no light my bag was so heavy. Thank you Markus ❤
Excellent! I love the travel gear. I do documentary work and always look for ways to up my production game with the lightest weight gear possible.
I met the guys from Fotopro during the IBC in Amsterdam, and they were super kind and very friendly. Their products are great, and they really deserve to be successful. Great video as always Markus!
Thats quite the lightweight bag full of Goodies Mr. Markus. Thanks for the continuing sharing of information to our community!
no clue who you are but have spent last 12 days trying to find a tripod for my daughter...never heard of fotopro but i think of the 20 tripods i've looked at I may have to pull the trigger if I can find a deal...thank you for actually being real!

Thank you for your recommendations Markus, just picked up that Ulanzi x Fotopro video head tripod. LOVE IT
Thanks Markus, this applied will be a very light weight kit for traveling with the added plus of fast set up and breakdown.
the best gear as always, very practical.
There's another one with the same mechanism called Siriu traveler x, it's about the same, but a lower payload, and slightly cheaper
My cameraman loves your channel!
Thank you for sharing this awesome tripod! I will definitely check it out! Keep up the great advice and review.
Awesome! As someone who loves how small the Peak Design tripod folds up into, I couldn’t believe the price point they put on that thing! Looks like the Fotopro X-cross 3 is just what I’ve been looking for. Thank you for this video and thank you for the recent bags giveaway! I won the lenses pouches and I have been finding great use of them!
Love your content Markus!
Perfect! Been after a good affordable travel tripod for my video camera out in the field
Great vid. Love your presentation style. This was really helpful. Looking for a lightweight travel tripod and assumed PD was the only real option. Realise now that the Ulanzi and Fotopro options look much better for my needs. Thankyou.
Thanks for the review, Marcus. These tripods are great, I have 2 and use them more than any other tripods as they are so light and easy to carry.
Yahoo, now I am ready , light wight baby, come on to Georgia
Just ordered an Aircross 2 from B&H based on your recommendation. Thanks. It looks like what I need.
I can't remember the last time i used my tripod. It's actually pretty light for what is though. Old Smith Victor cf500 i think it is. Actually a great tripod for a good price. It's not exactly quick to use but it's tall, sturdy, compact, and light for what it is. Full carbon fiber for pretty cheap
Thank you I have been searching for a long time and the Fotopro Aircross 3 is it. Every one else is recommending these other "lightweight" travel tripods that weight 1.3 KG and more.
💎💎💎💎💎💎
Love your videos man. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Very useful video, and good timing as I started to transfer most my gear to the new thinktank camera backpack that you gave me ; )
I picked up the fotopro tripod and it’s my fav compact tripod I shoot weddings and it’s dope for my b cam cause it’s so light and small when I solo shoot
Love your ultralight light stand Videos ! Thanks a lot.
Here a tip for a new record : LEOFOTO MT-03 - 162 g - usable indoor Stand .
Thanks
Markus would be great in product design.
🌞🌞 Thank you 🌞🌞
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the information
Nice tips. Now what brand and model is that carry on bag?
That Ulanzi co production tripod you mentioned in the back I thought that was the ulanzi comman video tripod with the mini fluid head. I was hoping to hear some thoughts on that but when I checked the link in bio its not the same tripod that I've had my eye on.
if you're tall like me (6'5) i had to search extensively. My thinking was the same. lightest / most compact / price all balanced. i got it for 300$ but it's around 400$ now i think? The Sirui 2204W (max ht is 70") so 10" higher. just a hair bigger folded up than the one you recommend, so if i were shorter, it would be that one, but yeah, i still need splay my feet out a bit for it to be perfect height for me.
What you need is an extension rod ua-cam.com/video/20O1NQj218o/v-deo.html
Did you see this ua-cam.com/video/td43FmxvR_I/v-deo.html
I get a kick how the Zhiyun gets you worked up every time! 😂
I use the Aircross 2. I can carry it all day. I actually carried it all over Vegas last weekend for the Silver Symposium. I picked the 2 over the 3 , but I cant remember why.
2 is shorter when closed but a bit wider. The head's a little different too
@@MarkusPix I think that I like that it was shorter. I don't mind that it's wider because I carry it by one leg when it's folded.
Also, the weight hook on the bottom of the mast is handy to use by hanging over my belt when folded if I need.
Also consider Amazon basics: a great light tripod (approx .55 kg or 1.2 lbs but only goes to 50 inches) and it’s inexpensive. Basic, but that’s the point. Enjoyed as always!
I’d be interested to see your thoughts on the Ulanzi LT028 40W battery powered light. It’s look neat. I don’t love the power supply but they say they’re working on a USB adapter for it though.
I have been eyeballing the Heipi travel tripod since it was announced last years, but I didn't jump on their crowdfunding deal because in all honesty, I really have little use for a tripod and cannot actually justify buying one.
The Fotopro looks interesting to me, but the 3kg limit is too low for what I would want. Anyway, it is all mental gymnastics...as I said, I don't really _need_ a tripod, it would just be a fun new toy that would collect dust more than anything else.
Great Video
Hi friend. I have a baby Pomeranian. I just have been using a old iPhone se to record video. What would be a good camera to video a dog? Have a fun day 🐶❤️
love it
What camera is Cara using to shoot this video? I am amazed at how smooth and steady your videos are even with all of the movement.
Yep, gives good results.
RX100vii
Thank you!
Hey Marcus, have you ever used the Fotopro FY-820 "Free-1" travel tripod? Only 9.8" long and goes up to 60" tall but there are literally no review on it
Is the ballhead removable? If so, what is the thread size? Didn't see it mentioned on the Amazon site...would prefer to keep using my RRS BH-30 head.
I didn't know that Hans Groiner also does photography reviews!
Would it hold a star tracker and camera
Thanks Marcus. Nice tripod! Curious what kind of headset mic were you using?
Drury Lane DE3 single ear headset

do you have a tripod that you would pick if you were only going to carry like a single backpack traveling? something just to use when you absolutely need a tripod but don't want something even as big as those?
My past two trips I have taken a bulky Benro tripod and never used it! Tried some astrophotography but too cloudy. How would the Fotopress do in windy conditions?
You enjoy the peak design carbon tripod? Its wonderful for me, its pricy but very compact for me.
you must not have watched the video
That's an awesome portable kit! Do you not also bring soft boxes or other modifiers? - do these lightstands hold those ok?
These micro stands only hold small lights. For softboxes you would need something stronger like an Impact LS-6 or LS-8
@@MarkusPix Ah, I see, what are you lighting that does not require a softbox?
Thanks friend
Great....fiance purchased something after watching this video 😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅
I guess I should put a disclaimer at the beginning of my videos 😄
Hi Markus, what kind of carry on case are you using?
Think Tank Airport Roller Derby
@@MarkusPix thanks!
Hi Markus! X-Aircross 3 (lite) and 2 share the same center column (20mm)? could you put that together, if you want?
It appears they do.
@@MarkusPix Thank you so much.

Cullmann Neomax 260 is full size, more lighter, more portable and much cheaper than all those from the list. And with super small ball head od 23g weight, you can go even lighter than this. Totall 583 grams in this case. Impossible to beat.
Lol 50 inches is not full size. It's actually classified as a mini tripod. The Fotopro in this video goes almost a foot higher, is actually full size and the legs go much higher making it more stable. If you're into mini tripods, I featured one in a recent video that's half the price of the Neomax and 9 inches taller ua-cam.com/video/MfGjJGUFNgY/v-deo.html
But thanks for the suggestion.
If I primarily shoot video should I go with the F38 or get a fluid head for the Aircross 3? Do you have experience with the Aircross 3 Lite?
Fuild head is more for video. Not sure what diff is with lite
Cool setup. Where do you keep your camera and lenses?
I assume you mean when I travel? In the camera bag
Super bro
thank u
Kinda curious but do you have any tripod that can be a hybrid? I want to buy a travel tripod that can be used as a camera tripod but can also be converted to a lightstand that goes about 7 feet. Like maybe the internal extention can be swapped out for a longer piece. Any reccomandations? Im currently looking at peak design or ulanzi and perhaps if possible buy a few extention pieces.

@@MarkusPix holy shit thank you so much!!! I did not know they existed!
Marcus i am getting heavily involved in news broadcasting could you please provide a link to the video head shown in this video, im struggling without a video head
Not sure if they sell the video head separately, but I put all the options and links in the description box below
The airplane company lets you embark with a carry-on containing a tripod? Or do you leave the carry-on in the cargo section for the duration of the flight (just before embarking)?
Why wouldn't they let me carry on a tripod? Never had a problem
can't the Aircross 3 be folded the same way as Aircross 2, so its same packing length?
No it doesn't. Most people hate those legs that have to fold all the way up anyway
@@MarkusPixits really strange that they show it folded upwards and list 365mm folding length on their product page 😲
i'm looking for a rugged mini tripod,
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Another thing on my b&h whishlist 🙏🙏🙏
0:16 Markus, you have a hardened bean sprout sticking out of your hair.
Yahoo tell us about that camera bag
BE AWARE! These kind of tripods (with this leg locking mechanism) work on equally, total horizontally surface well! Like studio enviroment.
Not on slope, or similar surface because adjusting the length of the legs pain in the @ss! No middle range adjustment, jointing point.
Aoka lightstand also in studio only! Because very flimsy! You don't want expensive gear put on.
😁😁😁👍👍👍
Please don´t call me names if I don´t agree. I am very sensitive.
The Sirui AM225 with extension rod weighs exactly the same 799g on my scale. It extends to 153cm (I just checked it), is smaller when folded and costs much less than the Fotopro (129EURO in Germany). I can extend it just as fast as the Fotopro and the extension rod can be removed in case you need it even lighter. Please note, you need the version with the extension rod SL-100.
😮
Who has more fun than you sir?
amazing but obviously not super stable
This is an ultra lightweight travel tripod, not a studio tripod. But for the cameras I put in it, it is more than stable enough
I didn't see any links, so I just went and bought one (Fotopro X-AIRCROSS 2). I guess they would give you money for affiliate links, like most people do.
