Standing charge is necessary. That's the money used to keep the infrastructure in good repair. Gas mains need replacing and repairing....electricity supply needs maintenance.

Just checked and this is what I found.
Energy companies (suppliers) sell energy to customers, and their primary focus is on providing energy services, not offering credit or lending services like traditional credit brokers.

Strewth, the sheer stupidity of that email. The legislation quoted is with regard consumer credit, hire purchase or credit lenders. Energy companies are not consumer credit businesses.
Exactly, but they are supplying energy or energy services via a credit system thereby purporting to be a credit agency by default, so no, it's not stupid in principle actually.

No they are not, they are supplying energy to be paid for upon receipt of a bill or a monthly bill based on your estimated annual consumption. Credit or hire purchase is not their business and that Act is not applicable to energy suppliers. Even if it was applicable, customers are not charged brokerage for their energy.
"The Consumer Credit Act 1974's Section 155 gives customers the right to a refund of most of a credit broker's fee if they don't take out a loan within six months". That's just not applicable.

The legislation does not state credit balance, it states brokerage and since energy suppliers do not charge you a brokerage for taking out a loan with them, it is not a service they provide, that legislation is not applicable. You can claim your credit balance back, but that's nothing to do with the email that Richard discussed and nothing to do with the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Always write letters to the CEO not emails, the Post Office controls the contracts between wo/men and corporations (for a contract to be legal it needs two wet ink signatures and guaranteed there'll only be yours as CORPORATIONS can not sign in wet ink, thus this is where all of their contracts fail - no wet ink signature) that is why G'ment want rid of the Post Office and everyone to go electronic as it will put wo/men permanently into the legal realm. This is what ID2020 is all about.

The dispute part is correct. In both the gas act and electricity act it states that pre payment meters cannot be fitted if an alleged debt is in dispute (I can't be bothered to find the exact section but it's definitely in there)
A dispute is not simply refusing to accept a bill without a valid reason however

Went through this with CT last year. Bailiff arrived asking for money, I flatly refused, remaining in honour. He said I am wilfully refusing to pay which I replied it was a Dispute. It stopped him dead and I told him to get back to school and get educated. I never heard back but find out later (about 8 months) down the road, they did an attachment of earrings on my benefit, Disability Living Allowance. They then did the same for this years.
I don't think they can do that with your benefits. I think they are breaking the law.

Looking back in history the then government said to our grandparents that if they dug the trenches for the supply of the gas electric water we would never have to pay for the gas electric or water it would be free! So they got around this by charging for the said services being metered into the property, so the meter is theirs, that how they are able to charge you! So change the meters and put an injunction against the ceo of the company so no member of their company can come onto your property! If they do they can be charged £10,000 this is legal and all above board!

I have agreed to pay all bills in full upon receipt of
1) lawful contract; and
2) proper bill; and
3) full and complete statement of accounts.
For clarity, a lawful contract will include;
a) full disclosure [nothing added or removed after signing]; and
b) consideration [all signatories get what they want from the contract]; and
c) lawful terms and conditions [only fair!]; and
d) the wet signatures of all contracting parties.
Bill senders are reminded full VAT receipts are required for any and all transactions.
I'm afraid you don't get to decide what constitutes a binding contract, that's a matter for contract law not your ill-informed gibberish or desires.

Once he announced that a sort of birth bond method had definitely worked for him regarding his water bill. . .only to admit later that his efforts were a failure. Now we are treated another bit of sovereign legalese. I have to give Mr. Vobes credit for at least characterizing this scheme as a possibility. The question is how this sort of scheming can be considered honorable behavior?
Certainly, a point well made. In this case, I pay for a service I use. I have disputed parking tickets, however.

I wrote a letter to the water board asking them about the hexa use of fluorosilicic acid highly toxic they are putting in our drinking water as well as other questions, and told them i am withholding all payments due to them poisoning me and until they clean their act up, and quoted the poison act to them. I sent one to customer services and one to the CEO, they sent a letter back from the customer services saying the government told them to do it.
Well the government have no right to poison my water and seeing as it was the water company asking for payment for toxic water and not the government, my beef is with the water company.
Five years later i still recieve letters from a company who brought the debt asking for payment, they go straight in the bin, i have no contract with these people, i put there letters and threats straight in the bin where they belong.
You apparently cannot say you are not paying but you can say you are with holding payment until they clean the water and it is safe for us to drink, which at the moment it in not safe to drink.

Surely the “energy supplier/broker” can disown the end user/plaintiff and inform all other suppliers not to provide any services to that prospective user.
Granted, the user/plaintiff may win their dispute and receive their monies but it would be a Pyrrhic victory as no supplier would accept them as a client for their services.

The energy provider is only refunding any credit that's left over after they have took your billed amount,this is only if you have requested it hence why it says above £5. They even state this in the terms and conditions when you first start with that energy provider,I'm afraid in my opinion this video could be misleading .
that is incorrect. You get a statement of account ...not a bill ...see companies act 2004. The issue is that Octopus et al are pretending they are a supplier not a broker. But they are a broker. Therefore, any agreement is a credit Agreement.
...I challenged my supplier ....in writing.. in that they are broker (and also do not own the meters as they say they do) not a supplier, stating the supplier is the National Grid...they would not respond to my question...oh yes they waffled but no answer.
As for the meters.... I am attempting to trace the owners through the serial numbers.

I personally wouldn't use a word 'dispute', it creates a controversy. Just today I sent my last notice to Scottish Power director where I confirmed that Scottish Power is now in commercial default after they refused to provide evidence of couple of things on few separate occasions : that they in fact supply gas/electricity and that I and Scottish Power signed a contract which would establish an obligation. In every notice I made it very clear that it is not a dispute, but I am exercising my rights to challenge their claims as they have a legal obligation to address requests and provide information followed by evidence. Tomorrow I am going to the bank to make Direct Debit Indemnity claim as of now that I made payments in error already have been established as a fact. As soon I will get results and if you are interested Richard, I can email you about the process I used.

For me the issue is whether it goes to legislation/ court or not, otherwise how do you actually 'win' it back? Someone has to decide, no? And rule in your favour.. and we know the courts are not trustworthy.

A contract doesn't need to be signed, if you have been paying them in the past then under contract law youve accepted the terms & conditions of the service contract
