I advise you to visit the northern coast or the cities of the Red Sea and Siwa and camp in the desert under the Milky Way. It is fantastic. Luxor and Aswan are also beautiful and of course, visit Port Said and Port Fouad, but Cairo and Giza I do not recommend.
Egypt used to have a massive community of Italians, French and Greeks. Especially after WW2. Most of them left the country in the 50s, 60s and 70s because of the wars Egypt was fighting at the time. Some of them simply integrated with the locals.
