I almost wholly concur with your take here. However, it was Sudha's Thangam that left me the most traumatized. To say this in a series that has Vetri's traumatizingly real movie says a lot about the impact that Thangam comes loaded with.
What a beautifully thoughtful review and so respectful, love that you use the correct terms by calling Saathar a woman. You've conveyed most of my thoughts and given me even more to think about. One note though, I saw vettrimarran's end with the text as a call to action. It points out the inadequacy of current legal system and also shows that the fight for justice is not over. I hope everyone watches this anthology because it's important to see these societal issues, so we can do and be better.
Agree on the last point and also interviewer calls it an addition to the naturally following script but this happened exactly with my friend and he was helpless... So I think Hari had to do what he could at the time.. it's still naturally flowing ...
If a movie review can make me re-live the movie once again, and give me more insights on things that I had missed noticing right in front of me as the movie ran, that is when you realise how art is appreciated equally both by the movie and the reviewer. I am glad I discovered this channel, now everytime a good movie comes out, I would jump to this channel expecting to know things that I might have missed to appreciate. More like running to friends right after finishing a movie and discussing all the great things art can do.
The take on the lilliputian character in Vignesh Shivan's film is yet another example of his sensibility.... If possible watch The Station Agent for a genuine portrayal of a dwarf character... A light hearted independent film.......
Some dialogues that hugely impacted me: na unga favorite illaya pa, masiruku samam, ava ena korangaya love panna, inime vethala podatha satharu. I just cannot take these off my mind.
In Thangam, Sattar is a person who is not understood by anyone in the village, not even by his / her own parents.. in fact, the mother asks sattar to just die even though she begs her to be allowed inside the house to escape the goons. So I think the ending befits the storyline, when sattar dies and the viewers are left grappling to want to know more about her.. I think it evokes the right emotions in the viewers - because we never want to know about them in the real world. just because we have seen some glimpses of her inner world, what right do we have to want to know more about her suddenly in this story? The story kind of says “ they are also people who have been neglected by you”
As expected, a fantastic review. Lil disappointed when you didn't talk about gautam's lack of facial expressions. Is it because he is a big director? It cannot be classified under subtle acting, if u think so. But I always love the way you analyse the films. Keep rocking.

something I found interesting and was curious about was the decision of putting such a huge and important detail of oor iravu in the first few minutes of vaanmagal. it allowed us to go into oor iravu, knowing what the outcome of it all was going to be, and of course made it a different kind of viewing experience. i was just wondering about your thoughts on why that reference was put in, and the significance of it. loved the review btw :))
very good review..very many details..agree to many of your opinions. But differ from the POV for Vignesh Sivan movie.. I think it is not easy to think to portray such a different ideology ...may be the execution could have been better as you expected..but that was not the expectation of Director and I think he did break the systemetic stero type expectation
SPOILER WARNING : Tonal shifts towards the end of “Love Panna..” , especially the song was quite jarring for me. Also Kalki- Anjali not being lovers seemed like a cop out even though it does make sense in the plot . But other than that I really enjoyed this segment .
Didn't you feel as a film vetrimaaran's movie didn't give a proper ending to the character which committed the crime unlike the others where either they're physically or mentally punished for their discriminative/ruthless behaviour in the past?
My rebuttal to Sudhir’s opinion on Vignesh Sivan’s short film is that in real life. A lot is these zealots do get away with the crime. This is exactly why being so evil becomes a viable option. That too is a the imperative to let a paavam happen. It’s not a moral lesson, but a observation on what happens in reality.
dont you think the reason given by anjali to her father for lesbian is wrong??? how come one can be lesbian by not talking to boys and talking only to girls bcz of fear of her dad lead to lesbian? does vignesh took sensitive content as joke?
@@pasupathyn yea she says that to save her boyfriend.... i am saying that the reason is too stupid enough for being lesbian. The society, to the ones who dont know about LGBT or trying to find what is LGBT will take the anjali reason as truth and lead to the false reasoning of LGBT la....
@@dheechudini1 so if a director shows caste oppression as good in a film would that be acceptable and appreciated bcz he directed on his "view"? Wat iam coming to say is, the reason given by Vignesh is wrong.... Women won't be lesbian if they didn't talk to boys and talk only to girls.... And this ain't giving a reason for pizza topping not to be sensitive.... This is LGBTQ issues, ofcourse it is sensitive as such as caste discrimination.
Actually I've difference of opinion that vetrimaran has somewhat failed to utilized the freedom of OTT platform while the rest of the directors did in the other three films. Let me elaborate it please give a moment to read it : The cruelty of praskashraj or the men who influenced him could have been staged it more effectively and why vetri is always trying to stage any intense sequence in same dark tangerine tone (last time in visaranai) though the audience attention and focus on the characters can be rapidly brought but they should not feel like watching documentary. This story was set up atleast in this century to the large extend but the sequences could have been litten up in a different way to show the cruelty of castesim barbarians isn't it. Instead of doing that why vetri always wants to create a drama(that's quite well actually) but eventually he has a freedom to do more which he can't do in main streams. In fact even I had the same fear which you addressed it in such a way that whether the narration is going on negative side (especially the consequences faced by the siblings of sumathi). Do that detailing means surrealism ? Ok if that reflects the exact mindset of the whole family but no where it's been said that this story has been inspired from real life incidents eventhough we all have been listening and watching to this honour killing subjects frequently and film makers have already taken this plot and some have conveyed it in a perfect way. But I think vetri has missed something and the cruelty could have been staged in a better way. The sound designing and mixing is the master touch of the film
In Kadhal panna - a father losing his daughter is the ultimate punishment. Probably that’s why he “escaped” and go and settle down with his other daughter. So he is not unpunished like how you see it.

நுண்ணிய விடயங்களை அழமாகக் கவனித்துச் சொன்ன அசத்தலான விமர்சனம் 👌.
The only story which had huge impact is vetrimaran's. It is very realistic, the house set up, people and thoughts. It is one of the best story told.
Beautiful விமர்சனம். 🤗👌

The character of Prakash Raj gets arrested for his deeds but then gets released which depicts the inadequacy of the legal system
He does get slapped, and supposedly Sai Pallavi's husband files case. Didn't have subtitles so couldn't understand the text that comes at the end.
