I was looking for a board game for my partner who loves escape rooms and I stumbled across this. Honestly you put a smile on my face. It's always nice to see someone talking with enthusiasm about something they're really into. Thanks for the recommendations.
Yup, that’s why when I said Unlock has fewer puzzles I clarified simpler puzzles because a lot of the puzzles in Unlock don’t feel like too much puzzling to me, whereas although exit has only 10 puzzles most of them are multiple steps so in my experience it’s more time spent puzzling (since almost no time is spent on story in a lot of exit games 😆 - although that has changed in more recent ones)
Love this list! So many I never knew of. We like the Unlock series the best for their creativity around the puzzles and the usage of the app and music helps make it more immersive.
Great video! Also a huge fan of escape room board games. I liked your comment re “Mystery House” on your spreadsheet 😂 (I feel the same way about it). Another one that I’ve enjoyed is Holiday Hijincks and 50 Clues. They are both similar to Unlock in that there are a deck of cards. 50 Clues is a bit gruesome and may not be everyone’s cup of tea while the Holiday Hijincks one are family friendly and great for the holidays!
Haha I had forgotten what I wrote there but yeah, I was so disappointed because it seemed like such a neat concept. I have both Holiday Hijinks on my want to play list! Crystal has actually played a bunch of the Holiday Hijinks ones (some of them on stream) so I’ve kinda vicariously played some through her!
Great list! I recommend Crimes & Capers as well. Such a great underrated series of games. Professor Puzzle games are also great except for a couple of them that were way too vague with the puzzles.
Crimes & Capers is on my list to try out but I haven’t gotten around to them since they’re relatively new. I hadn’t heard of Professor Puzzle but I looked it up and Crystal actually did the mall one! I didn’t realize there were so many in that series! That’s exciting.
@@BoardGameBlitz Yeah! I watched her video on it! I recommend that one, museum, starline express and grand hotel. The dead town one was pretty confusing to me. Danger in the Deep is one I just gave up on because I hated the system. Curse of the Dark is pretty amazing, but need to set aside about 4-5 hours to complete it. It took my girlfriend and I about 5 hours to complete. We were so burnt out that we started to look up solutions towards the end, but still was a fun experience.
There are so many games to play and not enough time to play them all so I definitely like using the hints/solutions when I get stuck so we don’t end up getting burnt out!
For some reason I don’t think of those ones as escape room type games - maybe because they’re multiple plays in the box using the same materials? But otherwise they would go in that category!
Good to know! I just put one of the first boxes as the image for each series so I don’t know much about Test Time. I played The Fate of London and Heist in Venice both a while ago.
@BoardGameBlitz I just played Fate of London yesterday. I missed the Stars with the Big Dipper puzzle and half guessed the Robot knives and 5 digit glass box puzzles. We had medium success tea, haha
I don’t remember the puzzles at all so I can’t compare (we played in 2018 so it’s been a while)! I’ve been wanting to play more of the deckscapes at some point and I’ve specifically put Escape from Alcatraz on my want to play list now.
I've played quite a few Unlock games, and most of the Holiday Hijinks games. And then that Scooby-Doo Coded Chronicles one. Oh, and i did a couple of Deckscape games, but they were just OK. I do have the Exit Advent Calendar, gonna try that in December! If I had more time, I'd try more of them!!!
I did the ice cave advent calendar last year and it was neat! I have the golden book one this year and I’m excited for December! Hope you enjoy yours! And yes, if we had more time we could play all of them!
I am kinda more on detective story games than puzzles and I totally love Echoes series. I also played Unlock! Alice in Wonderland and while writing this comment I am currently playing my first Exit game. After this video watched I must definitely try Adventure games. Thanks for video.
Ah don’t let the comment slow you down in the exit game! I hope you enjoy the adventure games! There are also a bunch of other more detective mystery story type games - one I recently got a review copy of and enjoyed was Murder Mystery Party: The Night Hunter Game
@@BoardGameBlitz Thanks for the other tip mabye try one day too 😉Just ordered Adventure games.😀I have at home over month Mortum: Medieval Detective it´s maybe little different detective game but I am looking forward to play it too.
Just found you today! Hello from Portugal 👋You are great, thanks for the content! It seems you have so much fun playing but also doing this videos. I really want to try Box One but with the shipping is really really expensive. I will give it a go on the other ones.
this is such a great overview! thank you Ambie 😍 I absolutely love the Unlock! games, I like playing them solo and love the music… great stress relief for me. I have also been loving The Emerald Flame and A Light in the Mist (both by the Tales of Ord designer). my partner absolutely loved The Initiative! have you tried that one? it’s more of a family puzzle board game than an escape room game but it feels similar to me!
You’re welcome! I might be getting The Emerald Flame soon so I’m excited for that! I haven’t played The Initiative but it’s on my want to play list! If it gives a similar feeling then I definitely want to play it!
Do you love escape rooms? What’s your favorite escape room board game you’ve played?

Yay! Thanks for the kind words! And I hope you find something your partner loves!
Exit only has 10 puzzles per game (since there's only 10 on the decoder). Unlock and Deckscape have almost twice as many puzzles in them.

Great overview, and you covered a lot of content with little wasted time. Awesome.
Excellent list!!!
Thank you!

Yeah the app in Unlock has been used so creatively! And I think they’ve gotten better with the new ones too.
Thank you for posting this. Great overview.
You’re very welcome!
I absolutely loved Box 1! I wish he would make more. It was so well thought out.
Yeah! But I feel like a second one wouldn’t have the same impact because part of Box 1 is not knowing what to expect going in!
Thank you so much hard to find content on this stuff!!
You’re welcome!

MicroMacro and Sherlock should go in the Newspaper-Style detective deduction style of escape room games!

Gasp! Deckscape is my favorite! Escape from Alcatraz has a great story with a mystery. Try it! Test Time is a bit by the numbers.
Good to know! I just put one of the first boxes as the image for each series so I don’t know much about Test Time. I played The Fate of London and Heist in Venice both a while ago.
