Kanami herself had said that Mincho is slang for "Shorty" and that was a nickname she picked up in senior high school. Seeing as she is only 5'1" and An inch taller than Miku, if anyone should be called Mincho, it should be Miku.😊

The Kanji in the for Kanami in the video is taken from the Wikipedia (same one used in the fan FB page) But the Google translate has the pronunciation as Uta Nami. I found another version which translates as Kanami and has another meaning. About 150+ variations of Kanji according to those sources. But then there is how Miku writes lyrics by dropping/adding and extending words. Fascinating stuff.
I was aware of the three alphabets with the addition of Chinese picturgram just to keep things spicy. But comming from a phonetic alphabet I had not appreciated the individual means behind each symbol
Unless you are a student of Japanese language and culture, I have to ask...just how much research did you have to put into this piece? Send a copy of the captions to Kanami, have her highlight the facts that she already knew, then have her send it back to you. She is a bright and creative woman, who is quite thorough in her work. She is Japanese [shocking new information], and loves her culture and its history. I doubt, however, that most of the returned information will be highlighted
About a week with a couple of hours a day. The final version is different to what I first came up with. The wikipedia page came up in Japanese which gave me more clues. I started studying Japanese (Hiragana and Katakana) after I became a fan. Always liked Japanese culture and spewing I didn't travel there in my twenties when they wanted English teachers. I doubt the ladies would return such requests if I sent them to them - way more important things to do :) Although it would be cool. I think it's fun for overseas fans to learn about the names and language in a different way. Think I'll do Akane next. The Misa one will be last and very short....lol

You can do the language research for both of us, as I...well...let me put it this way -- if there was a huge plug at the bottom of the Pacific, and it was removed, the sucking sound would be dwarfed by the level of sucking generated by foreign language skills. I still remember a bit of German; with Spanish, I would "learn" enough to get a good grade on the test, then forget almost all of it by the time that I got out to the car.
