This young lady just melts my heart every time she sings. A multi instrumentalist, a dancer and a voice of an angel. How can one person be blessed with so much talent? If ever there was a candidate for a "global superstar"...you are listening to her now:

Hi guys. Hoping to see you in Sacramento on Jan 20th 2011 at Harlows. Gaelic Storm played there a few months ago and I asked them to have more Irish groups. Apparently they listened to me
Oh dark is the evening and silent the hour Oh who is that minstrel by yon shady tower Whose harp is so tenderly touching with skill Oh who could it be but young Ned of the Hill And he sings, "Lady love, will you come with me now Come and live merrily under the bough I'll pillow your head where the light fairies tread If you will but wed with young ned of the Hill" Young Ned of the Hill has no castle or hall No bowmen or spearmen to come at his call But one little archer of exquisite skill Has loosed a bright shaft for young Ned of the Hill It is hard to escape to this young lady's bower For high is the castle and guarded the tower But where there's a will there's always a way And young Eileen is gone with young ned of the Hill
Went to a Flogging Molly concert tonight at the NorVa in Norfolk. They gave me two free tickets to see this Celtic Crossroads show Tuesday night, but I work. Anyone want them?
Just saw them at the Martin Theater in Panama City, FL. (Feb 24) The You tube videos are great but they don't do them justice live. Even by gulf coast standards, these musicians are awesome.
@rf8365 Studied this tune and the basic sotry of it once for a folk music project. Eamonn Ryan (Ned) was an earl deposed during the time of the williamite wars (if memory serves me correctly) who allegedly became a rapparee. The folklore around him goes that he hid out in the mountains and continued fighting as a bandit, robin hood sort of stuff, good stuff. The song dates from the later 18th century, 1770s i think and I know was originally not sung in English.
@jon s ... thx for that. from my research this song seems to be one of those that will have many meanings and/or histories. it is a song that i'll be drawn to for reasons unknown. I like the name Ned for my next son due to this song and i like the stories I've read so far. i guess the idea of a Ned character is what is the best. ...so was Ned Irish, or Scottish, English?
Sooner or later all lovers of traditional Irish music spend a bunch of hours on Wikipedia catching up on the history of their favorite tunes. :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89amonn_an_Chnoic
Maireann, great singing... I little over produced but it does not hide your raw talent. You have that honest traveller woman sound which isauthentic and should not be tampered with....stay true to yourself girl
Ireland’s Robin Hood or Dick Turpin. Not sure if he really existed. The countryside he is supposed to have operated in is as wild today as ever it was. Don’t get lost in those Tipperary hills - or his ghost will block your way -“Stand and deliver!”
Traditional singing is all about story telling and the listener must hear the story, Some singers like to have accompaniment and some even need it, but it must never come forward while the story is being told. It must be very much in the background while the singer is singing or better still, inaudible to the audience. Lovely singer singing a great song and good guitar playing too, but a tad too loud and competing with the storyteller.
this is my cousin Marianne Knight x so proud of you !!

Sublime. Gorgeous. Captivating. I listen endlessly.
The definitive version. Absolute perfection.
My 5/6 Great grandfather was Ned of the Hill, Eamon an Chnoic, ...love this version, will be sharing it with all my Ryan relatives.
My grandmother was Winnifred Ryan of Upperchurch, a direct descendant of Edmund Ryan, Eamonn an Chnoic, so I suppose we are related.
You mean you shared a great grandfather... I never heard ned of the hill was married or had children...

Voice of an angel
Thank you so much from Spain for this song :)

Beautiful! Thank you. )
What a super voice, respect !

Oh who is that minstrel by yon shady tower
Whose harp is so tenderly touching with skill
Oh who could it be but young Ned of the Hill
And he sings, "Lady love, will you come with me now
Come and live merrily under the bough
I'll pillow your head where the light fairies tread
If you will but wed with young ned of the Hill"
Young Ned of the Hill has no castle or hall
No bowmen or spearmen to come at his call
But one little archer of exquisite skill
Has loosed a bright shaft for young Ned of the Hill
It is hard to escape to this young lady's bower
For high is the castle and guarded the tower
But where there's a will there's always a way
And young Eileen is gone with young ned of the Hill
Thank's for the lyrics!!!
