this is steps if you want to replace cmos with a new one, for ASUS EePC:
1. Open all the bolts that are behind the casing
2. Take the RAM
3. Remove the laptop battery
4. Disconnect the keyboard's flexible cable from the mainboard slot
5. disconnect the touchpad flexible cable from the mainboard slot
6. open all top chasing
7. remove flexible cable cmos from the mainboard
8. peeled cmos wrapper
9. remember: red wire is for the positive pole and black for other side
10. Remove the ram wrapping ring then attach it to the new cmos
11. use duct tape to cover and tape the cable with cmos
12. place the cmos in place in the laptop case, reattach the cord to the mainboard
13. reassemble your notebook and can be used

You forgot to mention to remove the 4 screws behind the laptop battery. I almost broke my keyboard following your instructions.

Thanks for sharing; I was only interested in replacing the CMOS battery and it was very, very tedious for my notebook- the same as your video - I used a exact knife to remove the wrapping from the CMOS battery and electricians tape when reassembled together. I don't ever want to replace a CMOS battery on a laptop again in my life.
I'd recommend using electrical tape instead then using a shrink wrap sleeve over it.
My first attempt using a "naked" CR2032 failed (no or bad contact). Then I ordered a CR2032 having solder tabs, which is much easier to connect. I measured the current drawn by the CMOS RAM: 3.7uA. Given a nominal CR2032 capacity of 210mAh results in a theoretical lifetime of 6.5 years. The original CR2032 I replaced lived much longer. Guess it is being trickle charged whenever the computer is on.
I have also ASUS eee PC seashell series but it had different steps to open the case, more screws and also cmos battery was in different place.

nice , but I would recommend you to check the wire connection with a multi-meter before closing the case , and be on the safe side !

I need to know if you used a standard battery or a rechargeable one...
My Asus eee pc 1001HA seems to have a rechargeable CMOS button battery: ml1220

Works! Fairly simple to do - just remember to take out the 4 very small screws at the back before you take off the keyboard. That part wasn't shown on this video.

What's the purpose of taking out the RAM?
Some idiot probably taught a noob to do it, the noob became a pro, then the pro taught everyone else to do it, and to this day no one knows exactly why they do it.
So do I really need to remove the RAM or not?
@@vincentliew72 in 99.99% of the cases, no. I've never come across a screw under the ram slot so far.

Stupid design. Should be behind lid like extra ram often is. Easy safe access.
If you manhandled my laptop like that I would puke on the floor.I don't think I could watch it be done. If you touched my screen with your finger, i'd jump over the counter.
