Who knew the Redbox saga would go this deep! 😂 Anyone here been able to find a store that let you take a whole kiosk home? EDIT: To clarify some questions/comments... no, I don't think asking your local store if you can haul away their old redbox kiosk is stealing (there is probably some nuance here about who you are getting permission from, etc). But what we have seen online is people using a crow bar to break into kiosks (stealing) and/or people suggesting that you walk into your local store and act like you're from redbox in order to convince them to let you haul the redbox away (fraud? stealing? whatever you want to call it, don't trick people into giving you "permission" to take a kiosk).
I was told by my local grocery store they need the kiosk gone ASAP. They let me empty the machine, I am now sitting on 200+ movies i may just keep for nostalgia. Possibly start renting them out if I want to XD
is it nerdy to like owning the things you pay for? I'd be pissed if i bought a piece of plywood and checked the receipt to find i only got a 100 year license which can expire at home depot's leisure.
@@WaterMelonS1Yes, being concerned about your copy of over the hedge being taken away when amazon prime video shuts down is an inherently nerdy thing. I didn't say it's a bad thing, consumer rights are great, just everyone collecting physical media is either a nerd or too old to understand how to purchase things digitally. Still, the physical media ownership argument is becoming increasingly pointless as DRM gets worse. I own The Crew on disc, it doesn't matter anyways. I still don't have access to it. Also by purchasing physical media you are ensuring you won't own it forever when the disc inevitably decays. This is only untrue if you decide to make copies which is technically illegal if the disc has DRM. Essentially resulting in you still violating the law through significantly more effort and time.
@@parker73724I own both digital and physical when I buy things because I don’t like it when my movies are changed. Go ahead and watch pretty in pink digitally it’s got a different ending. I have the original unedited the office episodes that can’t be censored or changed because they are offensive.
Yeah, I don't understand why companies that have them in their stores didn't unplug them or cut the cord and call a local scrap place to have it removed.
@@someone28 There are specific laws involving abandonment. Considering RedBox signed contracts with those stores to have their machines on site, the store would have to follow that contract in order to get it removed. If said contract was through a certain date, the machine could not be classified as abandoned until after said date, unless certain other criterias were met. If a company bought RedBox's assets, they could go around to all the locations demanding their property. If it's gone or damaged, they could hold the build owner liable.

i do want to legitimately purchase a redbox machine. even without any discs inside. i want the mechanisms. i'd love to reprogram it to be an organiser/keeper of all my dvd and blurays. would be much better than my current system of totes and shelves. even if they want to wipe the drives before selling to me, im sure i could whip-up some code to get it running. sure i could 3d print a case thats close enough. and the qr codes could be generated, and after that, its just a sticker.

You know it would be cool to have.....I have three 400 disk Sony DVD players....but they are old and one has already died....just easier to buy a DVD and rip the thing to a hard drive and stream from a local cloud....put the DVD back in its case and save it for my kids to have to someday worry about
Reach out to the store.managers of any left if your area. They should at least be able to put you in contact with someone else. They will be scrapped so depending on the person tou can get for free

Although the Redbox kiosks and the media is still owned by Chicken Soup For The Soul, from their official statement it looks like they have abandoned them since they stated they can't afford to remove them, so it's all fair game when something is officially abandoned. I mean how much would it cost them to ship the kiosks to a warehouse, remove the items from the Kiosks, then sort them and then put them up for sale? They would probably pay more for doing that then just letting nature take its course. I'm pretty sure they just want to be done with it. As for people worrying about their credit card info, that's usually stored in a database in a server somewhere that's now offline and doesn't pose a threat of being leaked.
Anyone else not even know the Chicken Soup For The Soul books were even still in print? It feels like the last two of them were released straight to yard sales.
What you're saying is more or less the truth in the matter. The situation has semi updated itself since the original op post. Again a separate lawsuit filed by CVS was ordered regarding removal and I'm 99% sure that it was 100% approved all but confirming at least with CVS locations stores are free to do what they please and given other stores are hiring contractors keep in mind the 500 bucks per machine removal. To get these out of there and transfer them to landfills for scrap. Which again is a bad idea because they are worth more in value as a collectible than they ever would be scrapped.
The bankruptcy court disagrees. The bankruptcy attorneys have the legal authority over all the property. It’s a complicated matter though, with stores also having the right to evict the unsightly Redbox kiosks 😂
If any of the cards get charged for late rentals, i would be interested in how that works if people returned them to different kiosks than the original that never reconnect to the internet to report the return because they were stolen, broken, removed by store owner and scrapped. Seems very easily disputable down to the base $2.25 rental fee since they cant prove anything beyond the fact that you had it for the 1 night. Not to mention people who rented, then come back the next day to the machine being gone. They shouldn't be held liable for anything beyond the nights rental.
From what I've read from people on Reddit and on the Discord that it takes about 4 hours to on bolt one of these machines and completely take it apart to haul it off on a truck. That's also from people that were contracted to remove machines. Some outdoor ones are not bolted and then all the indoor ones are just in there and not bolted. They have two separate machines one is for outdoor use only and then the other is for indoor use only. The only difference is in the outdoor use only ones is it has a coolant system to keep the machine cool but apparently there's a way to disable that and then use it as an indoor one.
That's actually not possible because with offline charges it has up to 72 hours to come online to charge somebody otherwise it completely drops off. The customer data that stored on there is when it was online and it's PCI Compliant meaning it only shows the first 4 digits which is the bank and then the last 6 digits which is the account number. Tinkerers have already confirmed that offline charges are not being stored. Not to mention people are using expired cards or someone even used a Transit card and also an online mode it has you verify your information with a zip code and the zip code has to match the car that you used otherwise it will not let you rent or buy a movie cuz it's used for verification purposes. But since it's offline people have been able to put any ZIP code or just random numbers that they want so in the case that it had gone online within 72 hours of someone renting or buying a disc it wouldn't even go through anyways because the ZIP code does not match the card number.
If it is storing card details internally, I would be worried about card details being accessed by the people stealing them. Most probably wouldn’t know how but some could.
Walgreens has a piece of paper over the screen saying it's out of order, but still works as of Nov 1st, 2024. It will not take prepaid cards, only verified cards before pooping out the disc.
Technically they could sell the assets to someone and whoever buys them can charge you for the videos and late fees if they bought the assets. I recommend using a throw away gift credit card. It would be cool to have your dvd/blue ray collection in a redbox in your basement or man cave if you could figure out how to lift them.
Which isn't very likely to happen just because these service specific purpose of spitting out discs so another company would have to use these for either like movies or CDs witch for most places physical media is going away which is a shame. If it was just like a regular vending machine that you could put like all sorts of products in like candy or medicines and things like that that may be different. Also to the trustee has already granted apparently CVS and Kroger to do what they want with with their machines since they sued and some of the CVS locations have had to Halt remodels just because the kiosks were still sitting there. It's kind of safe to say they're probably going to do that for the other locations just because they can't afford to have the rest moved off of their location and the trustee would grant permission to the other stores also. But also even if they sold these two another company the car payment is an offline mode and the tinkerers have already confirmed that offline mode charges are not being stored on the machines. It's only customers data when they were online but it's also PCI Compliant meaning that it only shows the first 4 digits of the card number which is for the bank account and then the last 6 digits of the car which is the account number. An offline mode it has up to 72 hours to come back online otherwise the charge just completely drops off. Not to mention if someone's using an expired card or they use a legit card but they don't put in the correct zip code that literally acts as verification normally when are Redbox kiosk is online it verifies the ZIP code matches with the card otherwise it won't let you rent or buy a disc. So that zip code 1 even match to let the charge go through even if it had gone online within 72 hours.
Nov 1st , 2024, I hope not, because I ignored the out of order sign, and used throw away cards, but did not take. It would only take a debit card before pooping out the discs.
Yeah I'm gonna be honest, I don't really understand the people clearing out all of the dvds in these things and trying to sell them. Like you said, most of these are not worth anything (dvd + random movie nobody cares about). From all the machines we've found that work, most of them had a handful of somewhat desirable movies - otherwise, just a bunch of movies I've never heard of
I find this hilarious, because in my local grocerie store in the middle of nowhere people still rent from our still working redbox. I even told some customers that it wont charge them as the company that owns them filed for bankruptcy. They did not care in the slightest.
To be honest if someone pulled up in front of my store in a ahual or pickup truck and attempts to haul away the Redbox machine cant say id be bothered to ask if they were apart of Redbox or contracted to get it

They said they were contracted to remove the machine but also mentioned that they want contracted to get them from the other chain stores that they were at but this one just happened to be closest to the house. But yeah they probably weren't really contractors but I'm sure the store is happy that it's gone. Lots of stories are kind of disgusted with that they're just sitting there and nothing being done with them.
When I see a Redbox still working, I definitely stop to look at the movies you can buy and pick up anything that looks genuinely interesting. I don’t mind if they charge my credit card once they get them, that’s why you use your credit card and not your bank card! lol I’ve actually bought Redbox movies off and on throughout the years. One time when I rented one, I forgot to return it and definitely got charged like $36 and I could have definitely bought that movie (Hilary’s America from 2016, that long ago lol) cheaper. It’s cool to have these though, now that the company has gone. It’s like the second death of blockbuster without it being blockbuster lol OH and the other day, I waited for some other folks who were renting and returning some movies at my local food lion kiosk, so they’re still out there!
People are less stealing them and just trying to save them from landfills. Keep in mind the machines are fully decommissioned, CVS is essentially been given the legal right away to do as they please with the machines. The Redbox has no say or no ownership even if they wanted to. Now again I highly recommend against just taking a U-Haul to the back and taking these things it is still a good way to get arrested! But technically the only red tape stopping you is what the store wants to do with them as the stores being it's on their property are the only red tape left. And some have bribed the stores and the stores have been kind and just giving them the right away, others have bribed the contractors and the contractors have just given it to them, if you are a contractor of a removal service of any kind you can ask the store to help in the removal process you get both a paycheck and to keep the machine heck if you're still having problems offer a deal then whatever the other guy offered. Some specifications indoor machines are going to be better than outdoor because outdoors do have a cooling system. The average weight is around 800 lb give or take the outdoor ones way more than the indoor, the size is roughly smaller than a vending machine and compact enough where you'll have a place in your house where you can fit it. Electricity cost has been rumored or so an employee has said to be somewhere around 35 bucks a month and that's if you leave it on 24/7 if you don't it will probably cost you less than that to operate one of these in your house. Keep in mind that upon receiving them they will be basically a paperweight as the servers are down but there are people in the works to make them backwards capable and it is showing successful results! So yes you can officially have these running in their old States or better in your own house! If you are looking for resale value do not go for scrap scrap will give you little to nothing your best option is probably collector markets and believe me there will be collector markets for these things! GameStop kiosks prove that and in a nutshell! Not to mention the extraordinate amount of free DVDs you'll get if the DVDs themselves in the machines haven't been cleared out as a safety measure by community members to try to preserve the physical media. Again I repeat people it is free reign don't do nothing stupid but if you go through the proper channels you can legally get one to own for yourself with no repercussions! Again they are set for landfills they are starting to fill up landfills I heard that kroger and other places have already gotten rid of a majority of their machines to landfills! Supposedly rumorly replacing them with a Pokemon claw machine. Again now is your chance to own a piece of History and have it fully operational where you could put movies CDs video games or anything you see fit in them and pull them out just like you would rent a movie anytime you want to pop one in and watch one! And as for the credit card service themselves and if you're worried there's going to be any sort of problems with that they are currently defunct and non-operational but I'm sure as the community figures out how to modify these for in-home use they can be fully removed. I mean we already got a guy on the subreddit able to run doom on this thing! If I can run Doom it might be able to run anything. (I mean that's an understatement it can run doom and that's cool enough as it is) Good luck people! Don't do anything stupid and I wish the best to you all
These articles and not telling the full truth and are kind of fear-mongering. The only credit card information that js stored on the kiosks is when the machine was online. It's also PCI Compliant which means it only has the first 4 digits of the card number which is for your bank and then the last 6 digits of the card number which is for the account number. Don't worry your information has not been breached and they don't have your full card number. Also too it does like your emails and stuff if people were signing into their account we're having an email sent a confirmation that you rented it to your email. But that again is only when it's an online mode because there's nowhere for it to send anything even if you put in your email it doesn't send a confirmation. Also for offline charges it only has up to 72 hours to come back online to charge your card. After 72 hours the charge would just completely drop off.t Offline charges do not get stored onto the hard drive has already confirmed by people tinkering with the kiosks.
Got mine from a Tech Recycler, who got the contract to remove it from a Walgreens. Paint has some wear, but nothing a little sanding and repainting can't fix. Came from the Atlanta, GA market.
These stores/companies just have to mail in a letter to redbox stating "If the kiosk/s are not removed in a month well will scrap the kiosk/s". They can't sell off the kiosks but they can send them to junkyards or even have the local scrapper guy take them.
That's not that works at all. There are contracts attached to those kiosks that don't go away just because the company is bankrupt. The stores are already more than welcome to remove the kiosk regardless and see how Redbox responds in a lawsuit if they removed it without permission but Redbox has bigger things to deal with. The main issue is who pays for removal and that's something they have to wait out in court for. $500 is way too low for most of these machines.
The way I see it, if something has been left abandoned, it’s left for anyone to take. Redbox functionally doesn’t exist anymore as a business, and any physical items left out in the open are fairly free for the taking. They cannot and will not maintain their machines, and have left them abandoned.
@@_..-.._..-.._ The law only exists as so far as it is enforced. Also, if a house is abandoned, someone can just move in and start maintaining it, and after long enough they can actually attain legal ownership of that property.
In contrast, Redbox has pioneered a unique feature that no other company has implemented. Customers can conveniently access their accounts through their Apple Wallet, enabling seamless sign-in using a credit card tap. This feature has proven to be highly user-friendly and has garnered significant attention. It would be beneficial if other establishments, such as grocery stores and transportation systems, adopted similar methods, such as allowing customers to use their shopping cards or transit cards for payments. Additionally, there are other innovative ideas that I am currently unable to recall.
Ok me finding out that not only did the people who made the book chicken soup for the soul later make a company named after the book they also owned red box and went bankrupt. Mind blown
I went to my local grocery store and only got movies I would actually watch, ended up with 18 movies. Just went to the store today and they finally unplugged it 😢
In the town closest to me, there's supposed to be seven kiosks. I checked four (two were too far away and one was at the busiest store in town, so the least likely to be a good score). Of those four, three were gone, but the last was a double unit at a Walgreens. One unit was unpowered, but the other was operational. I got 2 discs out of it this past Wednesday, and tonight (11/10) I got a third. Strangely, it gave me an error when it tried to dispense the disc the first time, when I selected the "purchase" option on the disc I wanted. I tried again with "1-day rental" on the same disc, and this time it dispensed the disc.
What are you talking about can’t rip Blu-ray? My PC does it just fine and mine is ancient. To be clear, I own the movies I rip, it’s just to have a digital backup.
I think the reddit post has it backwards, they would have filed chapter 11, which would be restructuring, then usually once it becomes clear that no reasonable plan of restructuring can occur the court usually converts it to Chapter 7 which is liquidation.
I got 17 movies from the local kiosk no regrets I had my mom get them from her Redbox which still worked, she was gonna get more but she stalled and she came back too late and it was closed.
I got in hard on the death of physical. getting close to a couple thousand blu rays and 500 odd dvd's and counting. pretty much buy anything even the bad ones. got them all displayed and ready to watch but also got them all ripped and ready at the click of a button. netflix is a curse to the movie industry. physical is and will always remain king.
although with ebay removing private seller fee's in the EU/UK (USA? I don't know) the second hand market has taken an upturn, more selection with higher prices because everyone thinks their copy of captain america is the rarest most perfectest copy ever!
It probably wouldn't be that hard to do I mean the tinkerers on the Discord have already patched the OS so that it doesn't need to use the card reader at all and basically it will show up that you need to either tap, swipe, or insert your card with a chip but it will only stand that screen for about a couple of seconds and then it just moves right over to the ZIP code option and you can just put in anything and then it will dispense out a dvd. So it wouldn't be hard for them to rewrite code to have it take money.
i have a redbox at my jewel. screen is turned off on the two paired together. i kinda wanna ask what they'll do with it. redbox was my childhood when I was growing up with no wifi.
That's cool that your apartment had a Redbox machine. I'm not sure why more local communities like apartment complexes or condos didn't have one of these in their main common area for people to rent movies.
If there is pending litigation, perhaps the kiosks and the media within are not fair game. It might be that neither Redbox nor the parent company maintains the authority to sell or rent the media at all.
My works redbox screen went blank so I turned off the power. Now what is going to happen to these Kiosk since as of now the company can't do anything with them for who knows how long.

The article might have been older but there's still a lot of Redbox kiosks at Walgreens that are still on. Not to mention from post and things there's no locks on the breakers in people could just go and flip them back on. Even some of the kiosks that now have the new paper on there saying to return your disk to another location some of those machines are still running behind the paper LOL.

I don't understand why any company would keep paying electricity for Redbox machines once they went out of business. I would have pulled the plug on them.

That wouldn't work because offline charges only last up to 72 hours before it would have to come back online to charge the cards otherwise it just falls off completely and goes nowhere. Not to mention people were using expired cards or would you use legit cards but change the ZIP code which when an online mode acts is verification and won't let you rent or buy a disc unless the ZIP code matches.
I think they patched that I heard stories people used to do that and then keep the movies. And not return them. And then they would essentially charge a dead card
I've heard of people using prepaid cards but it might be more something that you would get a prepaid card you know that you can get at your bank or something like that. The Vanilla gift cards that are those cheap cardboard with a MAG strip on them don't work.

Know the ones that are Outdoors that are bolted are not done internally. The bolts are exposed from the outside. Some outdoor ones are not bolted down and all the indoor ones are just set in there they're not bolted since it's inside a store.
Any movies that you buy, you don't own it. You own the rights to watch it under certain circumstances. For example you're not allowed to show it to a large group of people.
Yeah and some of these people that actually have scrapped it for metal that were contracted said they were hardly getting any value out of it whatsoever for the scrap metal. Not really worth it to scrap them and it's better to sell it to someone that wants to Tinker around with it.
I cannot blame the former employees selling the dvds and Blu rays they had access too. Heck, I will even say to the former employees, take Redbox to the damn cleaners! They screwed them outta pay, outta insurance, outta the lot! I know the blu rays and dvds aren't worth much, but it's something and sticking it to the man.
I saw the second video in this saga earlier today. I wish I had seen this one before I left to try it myself. So I guess they'll charge me for the movies eventually? Doesn't matter, I'll just change cards when I'm done with redbox.
Oxygen the payment system is an offline mode it has up to 72 hours to charge a card otherwise it completely drops off. Not to mention people are using expired cards or maybe they were using widget cards but a different zip code which won't match anyways. People that have been tinkering around with the machine says that the OS does not store local data for offline charges. That local data that stored is from when they were online and it's PCI Compliant meaning it only shows the first 4 digits of the card which is the bank and then the last 6 digits which is the account number, and if someone had logged into their account or use their email but again that's all for when it was online. So this person that was talking to you didn't work for the company at all and didn't know what he was actually talking about.

Interesting.. Although my thought is the authorities should aggressively investigate and prosecute people breaking in or committing obvious frauds against the owners of the machine. Regardless of Redbox's insolvency; the legal process and rule of law needs to be respected Those people willing to ransack a Redbox machine are essentially opportunists who would target anything they thought they could get away with - such opportunistic crimes and people who would undertake them are a menace to society.
The only thing a business owner will care about is their business. Just take it without damaging anything. Who cares about legality. No one is gonna call the cops.
And do what exactly? Politely ask for the machine back? Which they'd still have to ship at their own expense? The machines they can't even afford to dispose of?
Did you ever think that if its saving your credit card information, if someone takes that and works out how to retrieve that info, it could be very bad for you. I would be a little worried if criminals got hold of them and then extracted that info. This data is worth a lot of money, either being used by the person or if it's sold on.
It would be extremely unusual for payment info to be stored on a local machine, that's stuff every programmer learns to avoid. There's no need for it either, since either you have to give them your card at every transaction, or you set up an online account (if it's an option).
Actually these articles aren't giving enough context and are kind of causing fear-mongering. First of all the stuff that stored locally on the kiosks is from when it was online and it is PCI Compliant which means that it's not giving out the full information. It gives out the first 4 digits of the card which is for who the bank is and then the last 6 of the card for what account it's related too. Also if you had logged in you know with your Rewards program or put in your email to have it send you a confirmation it would have that information but thats it. Your data isn't compromised like the articles have said. Not to mention the tinkerers have already confirmed that offline charges are not being stored. Plastic would how to charge a card up to 72 hours from when they rented or bought a movie otherwise it just completely falls off weather card processing is in offline mode. Plus there's no bank account or anything tied to where it would be even charged to anyways as the company is no longer in business.
5:48 $184,000 / 5400 = $34 per month per kisok. estimated kiosk power usage per month = 283.33 kWh. Only $1 a day to run one of these is somehow actually a lot better than I would've estimated. Also Walgreens whining about $184k is like me whining about $2. Like the amount of times somebody costs me $2 is incredible. Just walking out of a coffee shop and somebody cuts me off and I spill my coffee I still had a lot left in? $2. Mcdonalds once again didn't put the fries in my order? more than $2. Grocery store had the wrong price when the thing scanned again? $2+. Someone bumps a cart into my car in the parking lot? $2 You don't even mention these things they're just so numerous and frivolous in the grand scheme of my day. The time it takes to whine about it costs me more than $2 in time. The Walgreens employee who had to gather this data and verify it and get reports from dozens of employees who probably had dozens of branching employees probably means that direct statement to give out that price cost $3,000,000
This is the video I was LOOKING for last night 🥲🥲😁😁🤩🤩

is it nerdy to like owning the things you pay for?

It's pretty clear at this point that the machines and all the movies they contain are abandoned.
Yeah, I don't understand why companies that have them in their stores didn't unplug them or cut the cord and call a local scrap place to have it removed.
@@someone28 The dollar general store at my town actually cut the cord
@@someone28 There are specific laws involving abandonment. Considering RedBox signed contracts with those stores to have their machines on site, the store would have to follow that contract in order to get it removed.
If said contract was through a certain date, the machine could not be classified as abandoned until after said date, unless certain other criterias were met.
If a company bought RedBox's assets, they could go around to all the locations demanding their property. If it's gone or damaged, they could hold the build owner liable.

What are you talking about lol it like your saying data cant be stored locally lol
It’s not offline, but this information is stored server side, not client side locally on the device itself
There are a handful of shutdown Walgreens near me that still have a Redbox outside them. I bet they never go get those machines
It would be hilarious if these peoples' credit cards suddenly got tons of delayed charges from Redbox.
That's my thought too
That's actually not possible because with offline charges it has up to 72 hours to come online to charge somebody otherwise it completely drops off.
What I find hilarious is that these Redx DVD are going up on eBay because they think they're worth something. 🤣
Everything is worth something to someone lol to the right buyer
If only they could be uploaded onto internet archive legally!
Yeah I'm gonna be honest, I don't really understand the people clearing out all of the dvds in these things and trying to sell them. Like you said, most of these are not worth anything (dvd + random movie nobody cares about). From all the machines we've found that work, most of them had a handful of somewhat desirable movies - otherwise, just a bunch of movies I've never heard of
Honestly I think of these people wait a few years the cases itself will be worth more than the discs just because of nostalgia Factor.

I don’t mind if they charge my credit card once they get them, that’s why you use your credit card and not your bank card! lol
I’ve actually bought Redbox movies off and on throughout the years. One time when I rented one, I forgot to return it and definitely got charged like $36 and I could have definitely bought that movie (Hilary’s America from 2016, that long ago lol) cheaper.
It’s cool to have these though, now that the company has gone. It’s like the second death of blockbuster without it being blockbuster lol
OH and the other day, I waited for some other folks who were renting and returning some movies at my local food lion kiosk, so they’re still out there!
Cool to see people still using them like normal! They’re in for a shock when they get there one day to rent a movie and the kiosk is just gone 😂
So when you rent are they actually charging your card?
my local walmart said if you can haul it you can have it, after I told them redbox is no more and is nobody is at company to take them.
(I mean that's an understatement it can run doom and that's cool enough as it is)
Good luck people! Don't do anything stupid and I wish the best to you all

After 72 hours the charge would just completely drop off.t
Offline charges do not get stored onto the hard drive has already confirmed by people tinkering with the kiosks.
The law disagrees lol
@@_..-.._..-.._ The law only exists as so far as it is enforced.
Also, if a house is abandoned, someone can just move in and start maintaining it, and after long enough they can actually attain legal ownership of that property.
Well, Those machines contains credit card details so I guess it counts as stealing.
The trouble comes with the 4K movies. Even then though it's no match for the likes of MakeMKV and LibreDrive.
I think the reddit post has it backwards, they would have filed chapter 11, which would be restructuring, then usually once it becomes clear that no reasonable plan of restructuring can occur the court usually converts it to Chapter 7 which is liquidation.
^ this guy bankrupts
That is correct.
I got 17 movies from the local kiosk no regrets I had my mom get them from her Redbox which still worked, she was gonna get more but she stalled and she came back too late and it was closed.
Sad that people now start to obly see money. They take the movies probably to sell them or sell the machine itself
Couldnt they just make the redbox powered by solar pannel ?
why don't the stores just turn off the power to the machines by unpluging or the turning off the breaker.
Some do
Why do you have a random jar of peanut butter on your shelf?
Necessary for peak human performance. You wouldn't get it.
If you remember, Redbox used to sell video games, I remember I bought division two from Redbox
Wonder how hard it would be to rig these things to take cash only and just sells disks from them like a vending machine.
There use to be a red box at my old apartment I’m going to have to see if it’s still there 😅
That's cool that your apartment had a Redbox machine.
Lmao only thing left when they are gone is just a plug hinting something used to be there
And the rust on the ground
No one owns them now! Let them have them 😊
My works redbox screen went blank so I turned off the power. Now what is going to happen to these Kiosk since as of now the company can't do anything with them for who knows how long.
There's a Redbox still at my local Walgreens. 😂 I don't even know if it even works. 🤣
What about getting Redbox on like your smart TVs or game systems
Loving the Redbox saga, also love physical media, also enjoy your enthusiasm. Would love a vid on the death of physical media by you 👍
How do I get permission to have the two boxes in town next to our Walgreens
Someone removed all the Redboxes around my town. Bolts are cut down. It's nice, Now there is room for bikes in those areas.
Offline credit card charges drop off after 72 hours btw.
???
@@_..-.._..-.._yes for the purpose of this or like if it was like a vending machine or something that takes a card and it was disconnected from the internet and offline it has 72 hours to come back online to charge a card otherwise it just completely drops off.
Not to mention people were using expired cards or even changing the ZIP code that would be used for verification and it's still going through because it's completely offline and there is bank account for it to charge to.
i could easily move a kiosk, i have truck and trailer ready to go if i had a retailer willing to look the other way.
I like the hampton haul t'shirt, this definitely isn't gamer garbage! xD
I have 2 of them from stores that paid me to remove them. They both had windows PC's with 500gb hard drives. Looking at the log files of each transaction and event entry it can be interestering. The 2000 btu small factor AC and 600 watt heater can be usefull. Most have a 1200 watt APC AC line filter which is very usefull for all electronics. The monitor and touch screen are nice. The simmed modem is useless but the antenna is useful.
The dvd intake/output slot mechanism has a usable USB camera in it.
would like to know if you break any laws buying disc only with out cover 100 disc only sell for about $50 on ebay
dam he took the hole keosk home and played Doom on it
10:06 I would absolutely love to see an in-depth full dive on this subject
The electricity claim is hilarious considering the fact the machines would either be unplugged or have a breaker shut off to them.
The article might have been older but there's still a lot of Redbox kiosks at Walgreens that are still on.
Not to mention from post and things there's no locks on the breakers in people could just go and flip them back on. Even some of the kiosks that now have the new paper on there saying to return your disk to another location some of those machines are still running behind the paper LOL.
just went down a crazy 3 video saga the timing on this upload is amazing
10:04, blurays are able to be ripped and converted to AVI or MP4

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

8:41 no joke that was me I’m happy to be included in a video
I drove around for 4 hours today just to find one still working. None of the movies were for sale, so i "rented" them. While i dont plan on returning them, id be fine if the charged me the roughly $40 a disk in the future. Its a price id be willing to pay to have a piece of history
How can you steal what no one owns? If the copyright owner cant do anything with the movies and companies want them removed..why not!

What if you rented the dvds using a Visa prepaid giftcard?
I think they patched that I heard stories people used to do that and then keep the movies. And not return them. And then they would essentially charge a dead card
I've heard of people using prepaid cards but it might be more something that you would get a prepaid card you know that you can get at your bank or something like that. The Vanilla gift cards that are those cheap cardboard with a MAG strip on them don't work.
didn't expect to see myself in the first few seconds of this video
Are these bolted down internally? 🤔 That would complicate things.

Know the ones that are Outdoors that are bolted are not done internally. The bolts are exposed from the outside. Some outdoor ones are not bolted down and all the indoor ones are just set in there they're not bolted since it's inside a store.
Most definitely subbed up to this channel Jacob r is awesome so is this thanks for the time and content!
Any movies that you buy, you don't own it. You own the rights to watch it under certain circumstances. For example you're not allowed to show it to a large group of people.
For the scrap metal value?
Yeah and some of these people that actually have scrapped it for metal that were contracted said they were hardly getting any value out of it whatsoever for the scrap metal. Not really worth it to scrap them and it's better to sell it to someone that wants to Tinker around with it.
There is still a demand out there for this service
Imagine making a red box into bulk data storage for bluray mdiscs or something lol.
Umm... Ripping Blue-rays and Ultra 4k is no problem....
They still rent them here in pgh at the one shop n save
The Redbox at our Walmart down here is gone now and there one down here at our dollar general but there is no power to it
I saw a dude taking the kiosks, told me the company is going to charge for the last movies sold so
Bruh
I would want to activate it and run it. The rental business was fine - the problem was corporate mismanagement

200-300$
Years later $12,000 - $24,000 oops
Interesting.. Although my thought is the authorities should aggressively investigate and prosecute people breaking in or committing obvious frauds
against the owners of the machine. Regardless of Redbox's insolvency; the legal process and rule of law needs to be respected
Those people willing to ransack a Redbox machine are essentially opportunists who would target anything they thought they could get away with - such opportunistic crimes and people who would undertake them are a menace to society.
I would get a red box machine and make it rent me movies for a couple of bucks a day. The money would go into an investment account automatically.
The only thing a business owner will care about is their business. Just take it without damaging anything.
Who cares about legality. No one is gonna call the cops.
I have a Ram with a Cummins diesel if you find 2 to buy I'll take one and deliver the other to you. Plenty of weight carrying capacity.
FYI I'm joking 😅
There's a sign on a Redbox near me, probably saying you shouldn't try using it lol
Who else smashes the screen if the movies dont come out
Seems like they have been removed from CVS, 7-11, and Giant
I'd love a video about physical media not being owned. I guess it's time to sail the seven seas.

how did you find 404 media
Haha that was my comment thanks for reading it
Zombie red boxes! But no safeguards against stealing the data off of them?
They already have a team set up to bust the morons posting videos, this clown is the #1 guy and I find it hilarious.
Uh huh, the company with 0 employees and 0 money has set up a team to "bust" people making videos about their company... right 😂🤡 use your brain
It's just a credit card. You report the fraud and they send you a new card.
You don't even mention these things they're just so numerous and frivolous in the grand scheme of my day. The time it takes to whine about it costs me more than $2 in time. The Walgreens employee who had to gather this data and verify it and get reports from dozens of employees who probably had dozens of branching employees probably means that direct statement to give out that price cost $3,000,000
It's not stealing.
It's Garbage on other People's Property.
are they blu rays or dvds? Why does anyone want dvds?
I still use a 5 disc dvd player. 480p isnt bad.
Are you really asking?
media preservation!
I got a contract to go remove them. So not all of them are being stolen. But I’m sure some are.
