Legend in the making, these videos are incredible. I was googling questions that popped into my head as I was watching, and you answered them as I was looking for the answer! Excellent content and I can't wait to see more of these AI-based videos on your channel.
Thanks, 😊 Very interesting video, the gpu usage explains the 0 marketing. I would also say another reason to keep it on the DL is they don’t want to attack journalists writing bad press about the energy usage and have it’s affecting climate change.
Exactly my thoughts! Because I really think it is strange how for example, no one is talking how much GPU and energy chatGPT use with its now 10mil monthly users. Or how access to processing power eg. Deal with Microsoft is such a big deal..
Great video. My main concern is the grandiosity of these developers, they sound heavily idealistic, and are not considering how damaging this could be to humanity on a fundamental level. We are already seeing the results of humans being raised without using their brains, shoving their children's faces into screens from age 0. but imagine an entire generation of people who have no reason to think critically, conduct their own research, create their own art, write their own essays, or really do any thinking for themselves. Their brains will be a shockingly sad shell of what they could have been and evolved to be, and a society composed of these people will be quite honestly terrifyingly easy to destabilize.
I think once I became a parent this exact thought have been running in my mind. And my decision to do UA-cam, to keep myself informed and at the edge of inovation is simply because I want to be a reference point for my dauther. That she comes to me for critical thinking and advice. And... because I want to be part of whatever the world looks when she is older. So yeah.. thinking about exactly the same as you. A lot.
@@godago To me, this issue is one of the most profound existential threats to life as we know it. Not only is there a chance that this could be weaponized, I would argue it already is being weaponized. TikTok for example is completely taking over the west. The average daily screentime for the young generation is TEN HOURS A DAY. TEN. They have no reason to focus. They have no reason to think critically. They have no reason to develop hobbies. They have no reason to socialize face-to-face. They have no reason to be mindful and present with their own thoughts. They have no reason to pursue long-term goals. They have a screen attached to their hands that beckons for their very life experience to be compromised, not only to build a data profile/avatar to sell to China that knows more about their likes and dislikes than they do, but because they are now a weak, troubled, confused, aimless drone - and when an entire nation is populated by these people, they will be toppled effortlessly, almost automatically. We already see the highest rates of suicidality and mentall illness in HISTORY. The common factor: Screen time. Now their lives will be fully automated. Their creativity and critical thinking skills will be rendered useless and obsolete *by default*. SORRY FOR THE MOUTHFUL. TL;DR: Be very careful with giving your kids a phone.
Another way of looking at it however might be the exact opposite occurs. Humans finally have a tool which by virtue of working with it and getting really good at it could cause the human to become infinitely more creative than he otherwise would have become sans the technology. Think in terms of the printing press when it first came out. Before the printing press you had to rely solely on your oratory skills, often one scroll being in the sole possession of just one person, making the orator and social memory of the people the archive of all knowledge and information. People could have argued that the printing press would put all the orators out of business and make obsolete oral tradition, and cause a negative long term effect on society which in actuality helped usher us out of the dark ages into the Renaissance. Maybe this is a new Renaissance of sorts which changes everything, as did the first batch of books that started coming off a Guttenberg press. The whole world changed, arguable for the better. Why wouldn't this be the next phase of of a pattern that we can look back on and see what's already happened. Albeit we don't know where this is really headed but for now, look at it as the advent of going from the type writer to the word processor to the internet to now the web 4.
Students in Finland (my home country, famous for it's great educational system) have massively started to exploit ChatGPT in their school work during spring 2023. News reports tell how teachers are helpless. It's impossible to prove ChatGPT was used. If a student doesn't admit, it's word against word. People will be getting dumber and dumber. Students under 18 are not mature enough to realize the consequences of relying on ChatGPT. About to miss a deadline for school work? Cheat with ChatGPT and return a perfect essay, get perfect grades. They can continue this in high school, even in university level to some extent. Even if you're okay student (let's say 8/10) you can close the gap to 10/10 and just claim you started to study more. You can then use those grades to apply into higher level schools. In fact if you don't cheat, you're in risk of losing slots to students who do. You can even tell ChatGPT to add grammar errors to it's text, if your grammar normally sucks, it will look more believable to the teacher. Students are passing these tips like wildfire. And then there's of course the art teacher... in couple of years, no kid will want to even learn drawing. Actually it has already started. "Why we need to learn to draw? We will never compete with Midjourney. Teacher, come on this is waste of time." My art teacher friends have already said, that their students have asked these questions It's easy to believe... because even as a professional illustrator, I've also lost some of the motivation and passion to do art on my freetime. I feel I was robbed of my lifework. The Midjourney etc. CEOs sound idealistic, but I think secretly they know (by now at least) how much damage they are causing, they are just trying to cope with the guilt of destroying artistry, not just now but for all future generations. They know they messed up, but can't take it back. And they get rich by doing so, so maybe they don't want to take it back. I'd be surprised if they don't feel any guilt though.

Midjourney is only good for stock and reference images to a degree and maybe some for of basic commercial art for people who don't really know much about art but like pretty looking images. But despite some images being beautiful I would never spend money on ai generated images while I do buy originals and prints from artists. I use MJ mom self as a tool but the results are not good enough for what I do. It always needs to heavy duty editing work.
This is a very beautiful system. But it's gonna cut out the human heart and put a stake right through the heart of our creativity. The world won't need artist anymore. And yet we live in a world where the most expensive things are art and human expression. Guess we gotta make the best of it. But this tech will destroy human creativity. It's too strong and just too good in this early stage. I can't imagine what it will do.

This crap (especially the exponential energy usage which - like crypto - is magnifying climate change issues) is why I’m largely abandoning digital and working with pencil and paper. I’d rather make something in the real world, that no one else can steal, or claim is their work, or alternatively, just delete. Not here for tools that steal artist’s labor, and incorporate their intellectual property into other work, without crediting or paying them. Screw all this stuff. If I found someone on my staff had submitted a creative work made with AI? I would fire them immediately for putting my company at risk for a copyright lawsuit.
