I love seeing mom and dad helping convert your adventure van. I also have a sorento and looking for ideas. Course mine wont be as pretty as what your dad is doing, but functional.
Looks like a comfortable set up. I also have a 2011 Kia Sorento LX Awd 3.5L. Its a great vehicle. I do camp a lot, but my camping gear is in my trailer. But this set up got me thinking. Good luck and hope to see more videos soon.
Hello, I have a 2012 Kia Sorento and would like to do the same.. is there any way you could possibly share the dimensions for the wood cuts? It would be awesome! Thanks so much
Great video! Very creative and practical Did you take the back seats out? What size mattress were u able to fit in? What power station are you using, if any, such as jackery or gold zero solar powered energy systems? Have.you upgraded or modified any since the first build video post? Hope you are traveling and having a good time. Thanks
Hi! Thank you! I just did a very rough conversion last summer we built this platform in less than a day with just spare wood we had. I actually just put the platform back in my car last weekend to start camping again! To answer your questions, yes, I had to remove the seats. Unfortunately my car's seats do not lay completely flat like, say, a Subaru. Plus taking the seats out adds more depth and storage space below. Can be a pain to store the seats, though. This build works for me because I don't have to haul passengers around. Would be more annoying if I had to. I got the mattress topper from Ikea a long time ago. I want to say it's a queen if not a full. The only downside is that the mattress won't lay flat unless my seats are all the way up. So when I park for the night I move my front two seats up to lay the mattress flat. I have not done any additional mods to the car yet in terms of power sources. I have been researching and watching a lot of UA-cam's on it though! There are some great vids out there. My next plan is to build a better platform with some nicer wood and maybe add some slide outs for cooking etc. It does currently take two people to load the platform in as it is one solid piece so I've been researching better ways to build it that would make it more convenient to install with only one person. It's been wonderful so far and such a great thing for a female solo camper. It's comfortable, convenient and I feel safe at night in a locked vehicle. I highly recommend this build to anyone!
Sorry for the late reply, didn't get notified! Yes, I have third row seating. Unfortunately this vehicles seating does not lay flat like a Subaru. So it made more sense to remove them (and it adds more depth to the vehicle). But you do have to have space to store them when you aren't using them!
@@nicoledziggel No worries and thanks. I bought the Hybrid Sorento in February - 37mpg. I might consider taking the seats out for a road trip, but honestly it is pretty spacious even with the seats in (though I would only be living in it for a few weeks at a time. So far pretty happy with the car but wish it had 4WD. Best of luck on the road!
@@DonnaBerryArts no I don't recall it being an issue but I know the previous owners had taken the seats out and put them back in so potentially it was already loosened by the time I got the car.

So awesome! Can you include the blueprints with the measurements in the video description? I'm gonna try to make this for my Kia!

Cool set up. May be dumb question, but did you remove the rear seats?

@@nicoledziggeldid you have issues removing the 2nd and 3rd row seats? I can’t get the lugnuts to budge.

@@nicoledziggel ahhh. Gotcha. Thanks!
