To kinda answer your "one good writer" theory. John Abigail and Glenn Berger wrote the squeakquels. They also wrote the screenplay for "Kung Fu Panda" and wrote the sequels.
Man it's sad that I can answer the origins questions after all these years. For the Chipmunks, the three boys are left on Dave's doorstep by a covered person, who we find out from a letter is their mother, who can't keep them fed due to a nut shortage. Dave takes them into this relatively rundown cabin in the middle of the forest and gets driven nuts by their actions. Somewhere during the time, the boys sing lyrics to Dave's song (Witch Doctor), which after some mayhem and chaos ends up at a radio station. The boys sneak in and play the recording and people call in loving it. After more mayhem and some negotiation by Alvin, Dave gets a huge raise, they all move to a much nicer house, and the chaos continues. This also goes the full circle later on in a special episode where the boys go hunting to find their lost mother, and are successful doing it. For the Chipettes, you guys are right about the orphanage, but it's in Australia. The orphanage is bad, and some chaos ensues, but eventually the girls leave Australia (via a kangaroo on land and by stowing away on a cruiser) to the US (probably New York), where they "squeak" out a living on the streets until they find a audition notice in California. Hopping a bus and add in some chaos, the girls put on an impromptu show in gridlock traffic to the person hosting the auditions, who signs them on the spot. Although I actually wish the movies took more from the Alvin Show in the 60's as well as the 80/90's cartoons. There was so much there to work with, and basically none if it was ever used.
Hey I'd like to point out that the Chipmunks' mother had to give them up due to a harsh winter, all the animals were leaving the forest and Vinny (mother chipmunk) was afraid her kids wouldn't survive the journey. And that's when she spotted Dave's cabin and left them on his doorstep since he was always kind to the forest animals.
To be frank, Simon’s claim about their parents leaving them on their own in the live-action films is more truer to life as male chipmunks leave as soon as their offspring are born and the female take care of their offspring for 4 or 6 weeks before abandoning them to let them survive on their home. Real life chipmunks don’t care as much for their offspring as humans do.
Never saw Peanuts Movie, but did see Peabody and Sherman, dont remember anything super wrong with it, but I'm afraid to watch it now with critic eyes lol

To those who blame Doug and Rob for having nostalgia goggles on and bashing these new Chipmunk movies, I'm 10 years younger than them and The Chipmunk Adventure is still superior. Weird, but still superior.
Same, I didn't know about the 80s chipmunk series until I saw the 2007 movie. After I actually started watching episodes from the original show I couldn't watch the 2007 movie without cringing.
Agreed. I mean I didn't hate the first live action "Alvin and the Chipmunks", as it felt like the people making it were Chipmunks fans in the past, but were probably pressured by FOX to make it be as little in spirit to it and instead make it exactly like every other live action adaptation. I mean sure "The Chipmunk Adventure" barely had much of a plot, but it was a hell of a lot more fun, and did as much with what little it had.
David Cross accepted the role of Ian Hawke because the creators of Alvin and the Chipmunks were huge fans of Arrested Development, and they wrote the role just for him.
You wanna know the sad thing? The writers who wrote this piece of shit are the same pair of writers who wrote all three Kung Fu Panda movies. Thank GOD they moved onto better stuff.
They have a mother named Vinny who left them on Daves doorstep because the animals had to escape the forest due to a horrible winter where they wouldn't have survived the journey, when she came back to get them she noticed how happy they were with Dave and left them with him, she's in two episodes A Chipmunk Reunion and Vinnys Visit both can be found online.
I can just imagine hollywood getting desperate and making really dark Alvin & The Chipmunks sequel: Alvin & The Chipmunks: Alvins Mental Breakdown Alvin & The Chipmunks: Theodores Crack Addiction Alvin & The Chipmunks: Simon goes to iraq the list goes on
7:27, yes there was an orgin story. Their mother left them at Dave's home because she couldn't take care of them through the winter, and in one episode the chipmunks went into the woods and found her. and they stayed in contact. She came to visit in a later episode.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: More Bull-chip Alvin and the Chipmunks: You're still watching this chip? Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Chippiest Chip Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip Chip Chip Alvin and the Chipmunks: We've given up on this chip
I agree completely on the argument on movies based on cartoons not trying anymore. I mean, watch the 80's Transformers movie and then the Michael Bay film and compare. RIP Optimus Prime... and burn in hell Hotrod.
Fun fact: The movie's writers include a Simpsons writer and the creators of KaBlam and Pete & Pete. The director, however, did Muppets from Space and Garfield 2.
I've seen the first live action movies, but I haven't seen the others. Does Alvin ever end up acting like Alvin? I was also confused by Alvin getting stage fright. I also just didn't like the look of the CGI chipmunks. I loved the cartoon as a kid as well as the Chipmunk Adventure movie. Even the Christmas special with the harmonica was really good. I still watch the Christmas special.
The first three Chipmunks movies came out the exact same years as the first three Transformers films - 2007, 2009 and 2011. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!
"Who did the music for Potter?" "James Horner?" "Yeah." "You know who else needs more attention? John Williams." *JOHN WILLIAMS WAS THE ONE WHO SCORED HARRY POTTER!*
serena the witch Honestly, I didn't mind that film. I know it didn't have much of a plot but it had some funny slapstick humour and sometimes all I want is something a bit silly.
you have every right to have enjoyed it. i haven't actually seen it so i can't really judge the film itself but i was working retail when they decided to merchandise it all to hell and i couldn't walk two feet without seeing those yellow little monsters. i was directly responsible for putting these things on the shelves for like three months before and after the movie. the over-saturation killed it for me. we still stoke minion products, man.
I remember watching the first and the second as a kid, and I saw the “squeakquel” more than the first. I saw the third at a sleepover at Charlie’s house once. I never saw the rest.
Here are my top 11 films the Nostalgia Critic should review: 11. 4kids Month. In the late 90's and early 2000's, 4kids dubbed a few anime shows. Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon being the most famous. 4kids was also known for censoring some scenes and episodes, and the most infamous example was the dreaded 4kids dub of One Piece, which also had some shitty voice acting. A month of 4kids anime would make for some hilarious material. 10. Raiders of the Story Arc 2.0. Back in the old days, the Nostalgia Critic looked back at some nostalgic cartoons from the 90's. He should bring Raiders of the Story Arc back with some more nostalgic cartoons. Here are a few examples: Biker Mice From Mars, the Street Fighter cartoon and maybe even the first few episodes of Pokemon (he reviewed the first movie, so he might as well look at the show). 9. Noah. Worst Bible adaptation ever. It pissed of religious and non- religious movie goers alike. It was even banned in some Muslim countries (can't really blame them). 8. Thumbelina. This was one of the few Don Bluth films I grew up with. I know Don Bluth lost his touch in the 90's and that the Nostalgia Chick already reviewed this film, but since Doug is a Don Bluth fan, I'd like to see a Nostalgia Critic review of this film. 7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. One of the most hated sequels of all time. I didn't find it that bad myself, but it's definitely inferior to the original trilogy. Nostalgia Critic already reviewed the Temple of Doom and had a debate with the Cinema Snob about which movie was worse, so a review of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would be funny. 6. Hangover 2. Having a problem with the rehash of Home Alone 2? It's nothing compared to this one. 5. Anastasia. This Don Bluth movie got mixed reviews, but I'd like to hear Doug's thoughts. 4. Pure Magic's Hercules. Known on UA-cam as "The Best Hercules Movie Ever", this movie has bad writing, cheesy voice acting and animation that makes the CD-i games look like they were made by Don Bluth. It has become sort of an internet meme recently. But to give it some credit, this version is closer to the original Hercules story than the Disney version. 3. The Twilight Movies. Need I say more? 2. Troll 2. One of the worst movies of all time. I'm surprised he hasn't reviewed this one yet. 1. The Warcraft movie. The critics gave it the same negative reviews as video game movies in general, but as a Warcraft player myself, I thought it was OK (give or take a few changes from the source material). Since Doug hasn't played WoW and doesn't know anything about the lore, it would have to be a crossover with someone who has played it and knows the lore, such as Nobbel. One could look at it from a cinematic point of view, while the other could look at it from a lore point of view.
The second was horrible the third was a little better and the fourth was complete garbage that should have been incinerated when the script was produced
2 is awful, 3 was debatably better on some parts (but they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with the plot) and I haven't seen the 4th one but based in the trailers, it's worse than all of them combined.
Hey everyone, I heard Doug will finally be reviewing the third Titanic animated film, Tentacolino: In Search of the Titanic. This one is actually worse than The Legend of The Titanic, if you ever wanted animated insanity, Tetacolino is the worst thing to come out of Italy since Mussolini.
I looked it up a while ago- apparently the chipmunks origin story (at least in the 80's cartoon) was that their mother was raising them alone, but was trying to survive a harsh winter, knowing if she fled their home with all of them, they would not survive the journey (them being so small and weak). She had seen Dave before in the park and saw he was nice to animals, so she left them on his door, planning to return in the spring. When Spring came around, she saw how much better off and happy they were with him, so she left them with Dave.
Doug say's animated movies have come along way, yes here are the best animated movies that stand out from each year of the 2010's 2010 : Toy Story 3 , How Train Your Dragon 2011: Kung Fu Panda 2, Adventures of Tin Tin 2012 : Wreck it Ralph , Rise of the Guardians 2013 : Frozen 2014 : Lego Movie, How To Train Your Dragon 2, The Wind Rises 2015 : Inside Out 2016: Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda 3, Kubo , Finding Dory , yeah pretty great decade for animated movies
Doug talks about how the movies based off of children's properties used to big, grand adventures with LEGO Movie being the only modern example of such he can think of. I personally can think of another: the SpongeBob movies; the first one, especially but the second to an extent. And then, there's also the Rugrats movies, which did that sort of thing to an extant.
22:00 and now you understand why my generation loved the first 6 or so Pokémon movies. We wanted to see them so much. Multiple times. We begged our parents. The animation and budget and scope blew through the roof.
In the 80s cartoon, I remember the Chipmunks meeting their mother. She explained why she gave them up and Alvin was the one who wasn't keen on forgiving her. It was the Mother's Day ep. The Choettes, I'm pretty sure they were in Australia. It's been so long since I've watched the show. Probably not since the 80s. I forgot about the uncle until you mentioned it. lol
David Cross was the best part because the villain is always the best part of these kinds of movies. the actors playing the villains know its bad and just have fun with it
Actually the Chipmunk Series originally started already in the normal format. They later on added a origin Episode where we see how Dave and the Boys met, but no it did not start out with a origin story.
ACTUALLY you know what, I don't think I was born when the show was even airing, but I was watching it a couple years ago at like 5 in the morning because at 5 in the morning Teletoon retro was a lot more appealing than anything else, and I remember seeing an episode where they go and see their mother? I don't remember the details, though. Kind of weird.
theres a christmas special from like...'86? where the boys runaway to find their mother and dave and the chipettes go after them. thats where you get their origin of how how they wind up with dave. ive got it on vhs.
I actually liked the score in Liar, Liar. John Debney is a much better composer than most of the films he's stuck with. He even worked a miracle with that terrible Eddie Murphy comedy, A Thousand Words. Just listen to the track: "Redemption" from the score album. Great stuff.
Rob hit the nail on the head for me. Under 10 and over 50 is right on the money. I have an aunt and uncle who always take their grandkids to these movies and they meet this age demographic. Mad props rob.
There IS an origin story actually. It's called "A Chipmunk Reunion" and we see how they were left on Dave's doorstep in a basket, and then they reunite with their real mother.
Well, I mean, everyone who's said it is absolutely right. The sequels DO get worse. However...........the sequel's sorta got...........progressively worse, as they went on. The Squeakuel.........it's sorta a mix between wacky "WHA-OH! Rock stars dealing with school! Shenanigans!"-type of deal..........mixed in with almost the same plot line of the first..........except with the Chipettes. That's pretty much it. Chipwrecked........scantily clad Chipettes and David Cross in a pelican outfit............and some Castaway bullshit, just............because island adventures......and WHIMSY and treasure! The Road Chip..........the movie just kinda gave up. I mean, they opened the same day as Star Wars. What did they expect? In fact, not spoiling a WHOLE lot here: the supposed "Road Trip" part of the movie..........really doesn't even happen until, like, almost the climax of the movie. And, even then, it's not a "road trip", at all.
The most origin story I saw on TV were I think they were left at Dave's house by the real mother or something in a basic in the middle of the winter because blizzards add more dramaticness
And this is not an angry rant about what they got wrong in the video lol but there were a couple episodes that explained the origin of the Chipmunks and the Chipettes. The first was was called (The Chipmunks Story) and was I believe the 4th episode of season 1. Basically Dave was a struggling songwriter living in a cabin in the woods and some strange figure leaves the 3 chipmunks in a basket outsite his cabin when they were baby's. The second was called ironically (The Chipette Story) and it was the 34th episode of season 3. I think that's the one he's mentioning in the video but I think they came from Australia not russia. The third was actually a half-hour TV special called (A Chipmunk Reunion) and it was basically Alvin Simon and Theodore returning to the woods where Dave found them as babies to try and find out what happened to there Chipmunk mother, I remember it was an alright and somewhat heartwarming special.
What you said about kids films needing to be huge, fun rides, that's the mindset I'll use when making kids films. I've always wanted to be a filmmaker, and while I have ideas for surreal horror films inspired by the likes of David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick and Alan Resnick (he's responsible for Alantutorial, Unedited Footage of A Bear and This House Has People In It), I wanted to break from the norm with action comedies inspired by Planet Terror and Maximum Overdrive, as well as kids films both dark (like Goosebumps adaptations since that's my favorite guilty pleasure of all time), and lighthearted. One kids film that I really want to do is one based off of one of my favorite animated shows that's currently on the air, _The Amazing World of Gumball._ I want it to not only be an insane, fun, surreal kids movie with beautiful visuals, but also a parody/satire on bad, lazy, safe, by-the-numbers, and boring kids movies, as well as bad adaptations of kids cartoons, simply because of the _stupid_ excuse "it's a kids movie." The concept of the movie is like a lighthearted Animal Man with similar 4th wall breaking elements, as well as elements of Flashpoint. The show has some of the best satire and meta humor you'll ever see in a kids show.
Alvin and the Chipmunks Meets Frankinstine = Franklinstine comes to life and befriends Theador, crazy scientist, Alvin gets kidnapped, mad scientist makes Alvin drink a monster potion, monster potion makes him go crazy and crash a party, Alvin and movie star almost fall to their death. Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman = Alvin gets monster book, teacher is werewolf, Theador is bitten and turned to a werewolf, Alvin tries to get Theador back to normal by hitting him with a silver cane, wolfman attacks the school play, chase scene with the wolfman, the chipmunks, the chipettes and wolf Theador, the most hilarious distractions from Alvin and Britney while the chase scene is taking place and school dance at the end with the chipmunks and chipettes singing my favorite Alvin and the Chipmunks song. CGI live Chipmunks Movies = wtf?
well mathew grey gubbler voices simon so it makes sense that his performance would seem.... better. Not great but better. Gubbler is usually pretty great.
I hate to say this, but I challenge Doug and Rob to write a better review for the Road Chip than Black Nerd did, because his video had me in tears, I was laughing so hard.
They don't mention the direct-to-TV movies at all. I know they were made in '99 and 2000 (and also direct-to-TV and not in theaters), but they're still Chipmunk movies. Maybe if enough people bring them up, they'll talk about them. And if you ask me, I think Doug and Rob would think they're pretty solid. Chipmunks hunt the wolfman and Frankenstein. Granted, there's not as much of an adventure for the Wolfman movie, but it still holds up better than the live action films. The Frankenstein movie was good, too. And the chipmunks definitely had their distinct personalities, and it was mostly Alvin leading the trouble-making. I decided to re-watch the movies since I hadn't seen them in years (probably when they first aired), and I just had a huge grin all the way through both of them. They were so charming. Though that makes me wonder... why did they go with monster movies?
Sorry to be that guy, but they did have an origin story in the 80's cartoon. Basically, the chipmunks had a mother who left them on David's doorstep. It was actually an interesting cartoon to watch, what with them finding their mother and Alvin having resentment towards his mother for leaving them on David's doorstep.
The thing you said about there being one good writer is right. It was former Simpsons writer Jon Vitti, who came up with the story. It really showed in the sense of humor.
It's just "eh" bad at best; this one at least tried in some areas. David Cross is great, the animation on the Chipmunks is good and there's a couple hidden stuff referencing the ACTUAL David Seville that are sort of clever; like Dave's house number being 1958 (the year the chipmunks were created) and the piano Dave plays the Christmas Song on is the ACTUAL piano the real Dave played! Those are nice.
13:22 - 13:28 I know what you mean those "inspirational music cues" were in a lot of movies I notice particularly in films like The Nutty Professor remakes, Jingle All The Way, and Mrs. Doubtfire etc. (I didn't know John Debney started that trend.)
I looked for the answer but just found a bunch of request, so I'm asking, wasn't the original origin story that they were left in a basket on Dave's door step? That's what I vaguely remember.
Yes, there was a special called A Chipmunk Reunion where the chipmunks go to find their mother and she explains to them why she had to leave them at Dave's doorstep. Apparently there was this really harsh winter and the chipmunks were too young to survive it.
I bet Critic's videos get fully monetized (unless they're pulled on copyright charges) because he doesn't add salacious tags or clickbait titles to get more views. Still he may not like YT's policy. I'd imagine Critic is more concerned with Fair Use policies than the monetization/advertising policies.
The sound balance on this video is cancer for people using headphones. Just have those mixed into mono cause the direction of the sound really doesn't matter.
18:25 "Silverstreak" was good and Gene Wilder doing black face was funny because of the context, time and execution. He and Richard Pryor had good chemistry.
My aunt is one of those aww girls(?) She used to buy every kid movie that came out. She had every Disney movie, Don Bluth movie, basicay all the good stuff (and some bad) back in the day. I used to love going over as a kid cuz she had everything. She still buys every disney movie and whatnot plus all these new CGI, real life remakes. If she doesn't buy it, she'll go see it. She basically been buying these since the 80's. She recently had to get rid of all her cassettes cuz alot of them didn't play properly anymore and they got rid of their VCR.
The origin story was a movie created specifically to explain it. Basically their mother couldn't care for them for some reason (it was a legit reason but I can't remember it), so she put them in a basket and left them on Dave's doorstep. The movie is the chipmunks finally wanting to find their mom, which they do, and everything is explained. It was well done IMO, I even teared up when I was watching it as a kid at some points.
Actually there was an episode where The Chipmunks recalled their past or something, and one of them involved being left by their mother on Dave's front door or something. I remember seeing it as a kid, but I don't remember the name of the episode exactly
There was also a special called A Chipmunk Reunion where the chipmunks when off to find their mother, Vinny. When they find her she explains why she had to leave them at Dave's doorstep.
The fact that you not only reference Black Books, but also reference that one time Simon Pegg was in Black Books in an Alvin and the Chipmunks review makes me very very happy...
The most recent Alvin and the Chipmunks movie came out on the same day as the Force Awakens. One of the biggest box office slaughters of all time.
But it wasn't. It still broke even.
According to Fox executives though, breaking even is not good enough.
Dokemon Studios Given all the hype around it, there's no way they weren't aware of the release date. They did this intentionally. It wasn't a failure like they wanted it to be. It still made money, through the roof or not.
+TheNotverysocial Breaking even means they made no profit off of it so it's a failure
VikingWarrior HU You have to break even (Made your budget's worth) before you make a profit. And they did. It simply wasn't record breaking like the predecessors were.

Nope. Squeakel made $443 million; Princess and the Frog made only $267 million....what kind of parents take their kids to a shitty CGI/liveaction Chipmunks sequel instead of a gorgeously animated Disney film?!
MrXemnas1992 but the merchandise from Frog must of given them more money over all.

Princess and the Frog was supposed to be the big traditional animation comeback but Alvin and the Chipmunks ruined that.
Honestly Princess and the Frog just wasn't that good plus there's probably underlying racism with the lack of money it made. It's a bummer tbh
So...you're saying David Cross was cross the entire time he was making this film? ;)
And is it just me, or is Doug rhyming like Dr. Seuss throughout this whole video?
To kinda answer your "one good writer" theory. John Abigail and Glenn Berger wrote the squeakquels. They also wrote the screenplay for "Kung Fu Panda" and wrote the sequels.
That's not really a fun fact but I thought it was fun to share.
+Andrew Dz Only Abigail and Berger still return to both franchises. Now they're writing a screenplay for a candyland movie written by Adam Sandler.
Man it's sad that I can answer the origins questions after all these years.

"Cost too much to animated the entire movie?" The Peabody and Sherman movie was completely animated and so was Peanuts and both movies were awesome.
But sadly both flopped cause they were good.
Never saw Peanuts Movie, but did see Peabody and Sherman, dont remember anything super wrong with it, but I'm afraid to watch it now with critic eyes lol

I thought the writers were the guys who made Pete and Pete
What?! I loved the Kung Fu Panda movies! Haven't seen the third one though, is it good? Looks cool XD
+princessthyemis Yeah it's good, but it's not as good as 1 and 2
Tbf we all have to do things we're not proud of in order to make a little money.

Petja Ojanen just a bit harder?! that's what she said
7:27, yes there was an orgin story. Their mother left them at Dave's home because she couldn't take care of them through the winter, and in one episode the chipmunks went into the woods and found her. and they stayed in contact. She came to visit in a later episode.
Review the squeakuals (the sequels) ! I heard they are even worse
Don't forget the one on the island.
Also don't forget the road trip.
Don't forget the Nick series

Yes Rob I remember the origin story. If memory serves me they met their mother...and it was bizarrely melodramatic.
Yeah, the special was called A Chipmunk Reunion.
Sounds like the quintuplet episode of South Park.

Disney animators who were laid off after The Black Cauldron failed worked on The Chipmunk Adventure. One of them, I shit you not, was Glen Keane.
I'm just waiting for the next sequel; Fifty Shades Of Chipmunk
Is there a chance that occasionally Rob can be the one to surprise Doug with what movie you guys'll be doing Real Thoughts on again?

my mom was an 'awww girl' for the minion movie -_-
serena the witch Honestly, I didn't mind that film.

Here are my top 11 films the Nostalgia Critic should review:
11. 4kids Month.
I hope they do the sequels! Those are worse. Anyone agree?
wut
Meh
The second was horrible the third was a little better and the fourth was complete garbage that should have been incinerated when the script was produced
2 is awful, 3 was debatably better on some parts (but they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with the plot) and I haven't seen the 4th one but based in the trailers, it's worse than all of them combined.
u mean
the squeekquels

Doug say's animated movies have come along way,
yes here are the best animated movies that stand out from each year of the 2010's
2010 : Toy Story 3 , How Train Your Dragon
2011: Kung Fu Panda 2, Adventures of Tin Tin
2012 : Wreck it Ralph , Rise of the Guardians
2013 : Frozen
2014 : Lego Movie, How To Train Your Dragon 2, The Wind Rises
2015 : Inside Out
2016: Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda 3, Kubo , Finding Dory
, yeah pretty great decade for animated movies
I agree. Animation has its ups and downs.
Also for 2015, there was "Shaun The Sheep: The Movie".
i haven't seen that movie yet.
jack newton Have you seen "Wallace and Gromit"?
iv'e watched it through my childhood
Doug talks about how the movies based off of children's properties used to big, grand adventures with LEGO Movie being the only modern example of such he can think of. I personally can think of another: the SpongeBob movies; the first one, especially but the second to an extent.
And then, there's also the Rugrats movies, which did that sort of thing to an extant.
The second movie had a giant Reptar Mecha
22:00 and now you understand why my generation loved the first 6 or so Pokémon movies. We wanted to see them so much. Multiple times. We begged our parents. The animation and budget and scope blew through the roof.
In the 80s cartoon, I remember the Chipmunks meeting their mother. She explained why she gave them up and Alvin was the one who wasn't keen on forgiving her. It was the Mother's Day ep.
The Choettes, I'm pretty sure they were in Australia.
It's been so long since I've watched the show. Probably not since the 80s. I forgot about the uncle until you mentioned it. lol
i heard that if you're early
nothing fucking happens
David Cross was the best part because the villain is always the best part of these kinds of movies. the actors playing the villains know its bad and just have fun with it
Simon Pegg's cameo in Black Books is probably one of the greatest cameos ever. He is absolutely hilarious.
Actually the Chipmunk Series originally started already in the normal format. They later on added a origin Episode where we see how Dave and the Boys met, but no it did not start out with a origin story.
Glad to hear you're feeling better, Doug. Keep up the awesome work.
Jason Lee accepted the role of Dave Sevile after he found out that his idol Bill Murray turned it down.
they referenced black books! I can die happy.
no i wont go back in the cupboard
A few years ago they posted a top 20 of Doug's favourite TV's shows, and Black Books shows up at number 8, so he goes into more detail there.
stapler942 Oh really? I must've missed that.
I was sooooooo happy to know someone else watched black books
+Fish Gills McGinty
It has Simon Pegg?
I'm in.
The special was called A Chipmunk Reunion where the chipmunks go and find their mother.
theres a christmas special from like...'86? where the boys runaway to find their mother and dave and the chipettes go after them. thats where you get their origin of how how they wind up with dave. ive got it on vhs.
1:14
Denying the existence of something so that you can keep your nostalgic feelings alive.
I know the feeling
The thing you said about John Debney also applies to Alan Silvestri to an extent. The whimsical score he did was with Stuart Little
15:00 Isn't Howard Shore the composer for the Hobbits films. I believe that's his big fantasy movie ;)
Well, the same month. But, you get the picture.........
+SwizzlyBubbles -Extremegamerman10- it was the same day in the US
The biggest problem with that movie is what will you spend treasure on if you are stuck on an island.
The most origin story I saw on TV were I think they were left at Dave's house by the real mother or something in a basic in the middle of the winter because blizzards add more dramaticness
My favorite Jason Lee roles are Azrael in Dogma and Earl in My Name is Earl.
The chipettes came from an orphanage in Australia.
I can't wait for them to review the "squeakuels".
Their mother left them on Daves door step it's in a mother's day eposide.
If Doug and Rob produced a film(from a screenplay of their own). I would watch it. Even if the rest of the world hated it.
Rob Walker: I don’t like to Besmirch Actors.
Rob Schneider: Are you kidding me?!?
Can you do Alvin and the Chipmunks meet the Wolfman?
well mathew grey gubbler voices simon so it makes sense that his performance would seem.... better. Not great but better. Gubbler is usually pretty great.
The funny thing about that actress with the off performance is that she was in a episode of Shameless and she was actually really good in that
I hate to say this, but I challenge Doug and Rob to write a better review for the Road Chip than Black Nerd did, because his video had me in tears, I was laughing so hard.
No other animals in the cartoon series?.... You'r childhood mind has obviously blocked out the episode 'Cookie Chomper 3rd'
I just watched it. They didn’t talk though 🤷🏻♂️
Having seen all 4, I'd say the even numbered sequels are the best ones.
Love how Rob was in denial at the start! XD
Alvin and the Chipmunks were left on Dave's doorstep by their mother who couldn't support them in the cartoon.
The thing you said about there being one good writer is right. It was former Simpsons writer Jon Vitti, who came up with the story. It really showed in the sense of humor.
Yay! I'm so glad you're feeling better Doug. Love you & the videos!
Totally gotta agree with Rob! My parents and my grandma all adore these movies, because its "cute".
I saw The Chipmunk Adventure last week for the first time in years. That was one of my favorite childhood favorites.
I watched a movie from my childhood recently in Tubi and it did not hold up. Some things were good but i do not need to watch it again.
What are you going to do about the UA-cam monotization stuff
I bet Critic's videos get fully monetized (unless they're pulled on copyright charges) because he doesn't add salacious tags or clickbait titles to get more views. Still he may not like YT's policy. I'd imagine Critic is more concerned with Fair Use policies than the monetization/advertising policies.
UA-cam are already on it.
So long as he doesn't put "ISIS" or "Rape" in any of his video tags, he'll be fine.
+Zak Ras this is Doug we are talking about
i think that's what his site/vessel is for.
That's amazing. I have the same combination on my luggage! ------RIP, James Horner.
Even the first Care Bears movie tried(failed, but tried) to make a movie that was a big ass event versus the new Chipmunks.
That Chipmunk Adventure was playing on the tv in the movie 12 Strong, in the opening scene
At the end, what weren't they going to say? I MUST KNOW!
Actually there was an episode where The Chipmunks recalled their past or something, and one of them involved being left by their mother on Dave's front door or something. I remember seeing it as a kid, but I don't remember the name of the episode exactly
Got it the name of the episode is The Chipmunk story.
They're gonna love the next batch of Steven universe episodes!
John Williams did the music for "Harry Potter", the first three films to be precise.
