Thanks for watching man! I just now added a link to the tracks without the volume jumps in case people want to hear the songs in their full glory. It's in the description but also here: bit.ly/2zF98kO
@Brandon Burch That EMG 808 Clean and Distorted is EXACTLY what you needed. This is next level Brandon Burch right here. I am a fan of Seymour Duncan but the EMG in my opinion is where your sound really is creatively.
Hey, thanks for the video. The EMG's have more metal aggression, but the SD's have better clarity and sing a lot better. You've helped me decide, I'm going to go with the SD's.
I actually like the piercing, almost hollow sounding attack of the 808 in the neck, but the Pegasus is way more clear and defined for the bridge position
I like pickups that sound better alone for bass and rythm playing sort of stuff. You can always eq something if there is an actual bass so the guitar can sit better in a mix.
I've never been a fan of active pickups however I will say they have an interesting clean tone but I'll always prefer passive pickups though I wish 8 string pickups with a p-90 sound and hum-bucking design existed
Did you change your settings or something between the two ? Cuz shit, I didn't expect the SD to sound that much better. I've been watching pick-ups reviews around and I have a feeling late pick-ups series are way better than older series with any given manufacturer. For example : SD SH4/6/8/etc. vs. Nazgul/Pegasus/Black Winter/etc.
I wish there was a Pegasus/Sentient with the agression that those 808's have! I've got 808's in my 8-string, but for as loud and aggressive as they are, they're not as articulate as I'd like.
The Seymour Duncans have a bit more midrange, which helps bring out the individual notes in the chords you're playing. The attack on the Seymour Duncans is better as well.
Should try the EMG 57-8 and 66-8 set. I personally hate EMG 81, 707/808, and all their other typical pickups (85 is ok In the bridge but 57 is still better), but the 57 and 66 are the best of both worlds. Nice high output saturation for metal, more full toned like passives, with the warmth, mids, and note separation of passives. They even react more like passives with lighter picking (though not AS drastically as passives). If you ever find a cheap pair, or can afford another set down the road, do try them out. Im putting them in my 6, 7, and 8 string. That's how good I find them.
Well someone's been listening to Vildhjarta lately.. nice riffs once again dude. The new haircut looks good btw. Letting your hair grow out much longer might have looked good on you too, but I guess it's short because of your job right?
Have never heard of that band 😁 I gather they're good though. Thanks for the compliments. I cut my hair because I was ready for a change. I had this long hair for over a decade and I was growing tired of it. I didn't want really long hair because I felt like a slob. I wanted to clean up. For no one in particular, but for me. 😊
definitely Duncan for me. three quaters of my guitars feature Duncans anyway. the others whats stock on 'em. used EMG for some time. sounds great for Rammstein and that kind of stuff. But since I got my first Duncans, I swapped the EMG s. Sold them on ebay
Go right ahead. :) Download in the description. These are original. In fact, download my band's instrumental album (Freefall Alpha) for free. It's all me except the drums - he's my drummer. Blast away: analyzedwithin.bandcamp.com
Totally feel ya on that. To achieve the same sound on the cleans I will have to compress them heavily. I think I will play around with the tones and see which suits best. It's a new world with these pickups.
Thanks for asking. I take that as a compliment. It's actually just EZmix tones again. I originally had it EQ'd like crazy, and then I decided to take off all that extra EQ and keep it as close to the originals as possible. I think it ended up sounding sicker than it would have been otherwise. :)
Hey dude awesome vid! I’m about to purchase an 8 string ibanez and one has emg808’s and the other has a nazgul and sentient. I was wondering if the Seymour’s are noisy because there passive? Because when I use emgs they usually are super quite and I get no feed back but when ever I use a passive like a dimarzio I get squealing with evrey palm mute. How quiet are those Seymour’s?
I really hope that the poster for that band Skillet is satire. I'd be pretty bummed to find out that there actually is a band out there calling themselves skillet and that they actually take themselves seriously.
Omg the Pegasus/Senti are really articulate!
They certainly are
Oh yeah back at it again with those sick chugs

+followfornothing I like the clarity of the Seymour Duncans
All these brandons lol
Both sound good, but I'm a Duncan fan. Got the Nazgul/Sentient set in my Schecter C7. I love 'em. Nice vid. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man
SD kills anything an everything. Ah and i didnt know you where that good at playing guitar, respect, you have a unique sound!
Thank you so much!!

Best of luck!
Honestly EMGs sounded better in the mix, but the Duncans sounded better alone
To each his own. It was difficult to find a tone that sounded good for both since each pickup had its own character.

808s. I have 'em and they sound very articulate and tight with the right EQing
I love the aggressive sound of the 808 but the tone from the Seymours is amazing
Agreed
Awesome video man! Exactly the kind of demo I was looking for!
Glad you liked my comparison Gregory. I aimed to make it how I would want such a video :)
For me the 808 sounds better !!! Nice video ! Cheers !
Wow! I love this demo.
Thank you!!!
Great video!
SD's definitely offer nicer/dynamic/richer tones, without question!
Thanks for watching and for your input!
Nice. Even your demo videos/music are epic
Thanks, I'm honored
I've never been a fan of active pickups however I will say they have an interesting clean tone

Nope, no changes. These pickups have a completely different character because I'm comparing my old active EMGs to these passive Seymours.
The duncans certainly are missing a certain sound that the emgs have. It might just be a preference thing I’m not sure.
I really like the Duncan's. I think they sound a lot more clear and djent-y.
I couldn't agree more. :)
Both sound great. Personally prefer emgs for “feeling” while play.
Thanks for watching

I've got 808's in my 8-string, but for as loud and aggressive as they are, they're not as articulate as I'd like.
Yep, that is why when i switched to a 7 string that I looked for passive pickups in them
Great vid! I'm sorta shocked at how close they sound under high gain. I expected more tonal difference.
Yeah but I can definitely hear more clarity in my mixes. I still use my Jackson with EMGs for some cleans because I like the punchy sound they bring.
The Seymour Duncans have a bit more midrange, which helps bring out the individual notes in the chords you're playing. The attack on the Seymour Duncans is better as well.
Agreed. Thanks for the input and observation

Thanks for the recommendation. I would install them on my 6 string that has the EMG 81/85 set since I use these Seymour Duncans on my 8 string now. :)
Definitely! And they're incredibly versatile I should add.
Keep up the awesome work! Love your content!
Thanks TJ

Cool to hear from another Duncan owner! I figured I would give them a try. It was a good choice.
it really was. that guitar sounds killer, especially with the Duncans. Hope you will stick with them :)
Definitely plan to
So you were using the EMG with regular 500k pots?
Yep
Are these original tracks, or covers? I love the sound and would love to blast this in my car!

Compare to stock ibanez rg8 pickup to emg808 is it huge upgrade?
Yes I would say they are clearer. Not as huge but it's a good upgrade.
@@BrandonBurch thanks man, i got emg808x for this one thanks!
@@johnbrixpomoy5220 even better!
You can't beat Passive/Alnico!
Yeah I like passives and prefer them now.
Like the Duncan pickups sound cleaner personally I think emgs are overrated!
Yeah I definitely like the clarity of my new Duncans. Even when I throw lots of gain at it there is still definition in the tone and note.
For leads i prefer the EMG's but for rhythm you can't beat the Seymour Duncans
Totally feel ya on that. To achieve the same sound on the cleans I will have to compress them heavily. I think I will play around with the tones and see which suits best. It's a new world with these pickups.
was this recorded through an actual cabinet? Because it actually sounds like one

@@BrandonBurch what presets if I may ask, Metal Guitar Gods 1?
EMG bridge for rhythm distortion, SD for everything else
Thanks for listening and for your input

I think they are fine. I haven't noticed anything different than the way my EMG pickups behaved. But then again I use a noise gate all the time anyway
Did you have to do any routing to get these to fit??
Nope they fit right in, provided I installed them correctly.
Hey bro plzzz i need diagram for pegasus ...thx
Seymour Duncan has diagrams on their website :)
What 8 string Ibanez are you using?
This is an Ibanez RG8. I've had it for a few years. I wanted a new guitar but I decided that new pickups was the more reasonable approach.
Yeah I got the same one ,my pickups are a emg x is that a good choice or not?
The X version is better than what I had. So yes it's a good choice.
Thx man, keep it going.
\m/ for SD
Tutorial on those ambient sounds please!!!
OK I can do that. :) I'm using Toontrack's ezmix so I could show what I'm using.

I really hope that the poster for that band Skillet is satire. I'd be pretty bummed to find out that there actually is a band out there calling themselves skillet and that they actually take themselves seriously.
It's a Christian rock band that has been around for a long time.
Bruh skillet, seether and all of those early 2000 bands are big.
I do NOT like 'metal' made after 95...this not bad tho..is a bit avante garde, but in a good way. 🎵🎸🎵🎩⚰
Hey thanks for watching my creation
