Dude! This video has been a lifesaver. I'm doing a rear main and clutch on my buddy's ST and this is the first time I've touched one of these cars. I've been referring to the video off and on all day. This has been crazy helpful. Thank you so much for doing this
I know you posted this years ago, but I just wanted to say thank you! This video made it possible for me to drop my trans, replace my slave cylinder, reinstall everything and drive my car again today. Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing man! Much appreciated. I am glad the subframe doesn’t have to be lowered on the ST. When I did my ZX3 the subframe was in the way. My ST clutch is toast and I am not looking forward to replacing it, but when you buy used with salvage title that’s what you get. Labor of love when you want to rescue a good car. Now to blow 500 plus shipping for OEM parts!
500+? At that cost buy an upgraded clutch. Where are you buying parts from? That is way overpriced. www.fordpartscatalog.com/oem-parts/ford-pressure-plate-dv6z7b546a/?c=YT1mb3Jk
If you take the center caps off of the rims you can actually remove the nuts on the axle shafts by yourself while the car is still on the ground. If you are removing the transmission the car is not going to be moving anymore so you can take them off first! I did this on my escort clutch replacement because I was working alone! Also air tools are a wonderful invention! Nice upload, very informative and thorough!
Hello Psychoocysp! Bought a 2018 Focus ST 2/27/18 at 68 soon to be 69 years old all I can say after watching this is that I am so glad that FWD cars had not even been invented yet when I was young. My first car was a 63 1/2 Mercury with a 260 in it and with racing it and all, clutch and trans repairs were a frequent thing. I still had my paper route for about the 1st year I drove and once blew the clutch on the way home from getting the papers. I already had a clutch disc at home and was back on the road delivering papers 1-1/2 hours later. If my ST ever gets a limited slip or needs a clutch etc it looks like its going have to be done by a shop or dealer. I might try pulling the trans out of my 2015 Mustang GT if I had to but I doubt I'd ever try it on the ST. Thanks for the video, it's very educational.
George Edwards Funny I have a 2018 Focus ST and I am your age . Also a gear head who has done a bunch of wrenching. The car I had prior was a 2002 Nissan Sentra Spec 5 and came with w Getrag LSD . It is real hard to drive W/O one
Did my son's on my driveway..I'm 70....biggest problem I had was trying to get the gearbox around a torque tube...at 42k it's bloody awkward...used an engine crane to get the box back in it was a lost easier when on your own...one year later looks like diff bearing has gone so it's got to come out again......thanks for the video...👍👍
Yeah I agree with not wanting to bench press it in place, it's hard to line a transmission up with a jack let alone line it up perfectly while wrestling it in place.
bro.. you gotta get yourself a impact drill/screw gun.. itll zip all those bolts out fast after you break them all loose. itll save you a lot of time...
Watching this since I need to do the input shaft seal and I already know I'm about to not use the trans jack and just use what strength I have. I have always found the trans jack makes getting the trans out of the car hard.
Tie a rope around the trans have someone help with a regular car jack under the trans slowly bring it down its the best way to get it done tranjacks are only really useful for rwd trans these fwd cars barely have any room
I put a new transmission in my 2018 Ford Focus. The car won't start. I get an error codes $7E9 and $7E8. Have you ever encountered this issue? The car turns over but does not start.
No clue what those codes are but I think I've forgotten to reconnect one of the MAP sensors before and it wouldn't start. Without looking up the codes I'd recheck to make sure you haven't forgotten a connector.
psychoocysp What turbo are you going to go with? And how is the LSD? Also I have a 2014 Focus ST and I just had a Borla Exhaust put on and it sounds really good. Do you have any Dyno numbers?
I'm waiting on a GTX3076 kit but I may be just be fabbing up my own adapters if no one comes out with a kit soon. I like the LSD a lot, but you really need stickier tires to get full use of it. I dynoed at 267whp, and I have a video of it on my channel.
LOOK HOW CLEAN HIS ENGINE BAY IS, ANYONE SEE A NEWISH CAR OR GARAGE KEPT? MAN, I NEED A GARAGE! I LIKE THAT STORAGE SYSTEM HE HAS ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF HIS GARAGE, I ONLY CAUGHT A GLIMPSE OF IT THO! WISH MY FUCUS WAS THAT CLEAN! IF I KEEP REPLACING & CLEANING & REPAINTING, AWE WHO AM I KIDDING, MINE STILL WONT LOOK THAT CLEAN.
Not really sure. But keep in mind that plug on the side is located there so that it can be used as a fill gauge, i.e. you're supposed to fill it up from that plug until fluid starts coming out, and when it comes out you know you're filled up completely.
Justin Neidlinger hypothetically, what I would do is take out the screw on the side, and then fill it up through the vent until it comes out from the side.
@@Dada_Movement I see what you're saying. I never messed with the vent hole on top so I'm not 100% sure where that hole may lead to. Might be something to look at in detail when you have the transmission apart.
MY BRO HAS A MAZDA 3 THAT HAS THAT SAME CRAPY BATTERY BOX GET-UP BUT , I THOUGHT HIS INTAKE WAS UP FRONT WHERE YOUR SHINY METAL INTAKE OR EXHAUST IS,(on the front of the engine?) IT LOOKS DIFFERENT THEN WHAT I REMEMBER ON HIS MAZDA! IS THAT AFTERMARKET? ITS BEEN ABOUT A YEAR SINCE I SAW HIS MOTOR SO, MAYBE IM WRONG? THO, I KNOW HIS ISNT TURBO! NICE!!! IMA ADD AFTERMARKET CAMS & BOOST TO MY ZETEC SOON!
Hi psychoocysp - where are you located (I’m in the Pacific NW) and would you be available to perform similar work on an RS? Swap the clutch/flywheel/diff? I need someone with ST/RS experience. Garage with lift and full toolset, and fair compensation.

Pro trick: watch series on Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Lincoln Walter Definitely, been using KaldroStream for since november myself :)
@Lincoln Walter Yup, I've been watching on KaldroStream for since december myself :)

Bought my 2016 in 2016 with 2800 miles on it Savage title. 36k no problems. Love it. $18500.

I'm curious what a shop would charge to remove it.
great video, that smoke alarm is killing me though

Approximately how long did it take to remove and install the transmission?
Till it was done.

Instead of pulling the transaxle seperate could you not pull engine and all and seperate after?
40:15 SCORE!

A torque wrench is not a breaker bar or for removing nuts!
That was a junk torque wrench that I turned into a breaker bar.
How long would it take to pull the transmission out and replace the fly wheel, clutch assembly, and the slave drive?

You may need to have the transmission scanned and programmed to your cpu
Nice man. Good job with this. Will you make anymore install videos for anything else?
Yep. Anything else that I do to the car will get a video how-to. Biggest thing next will be a bigger turbo.

I’m literally doing this step by step my clutch just went and I have to replace it in my driveway over the weekend 😅😅
How did it go?
Did you sell your focus st?
Yes :(

Try spinning the nut instead of the bolt when tightening/loosening lol

Where did you get that intake it looks real nice?
The intake manifold is from turbo tech racing.
On an Mk3, Can you put in transmission oil from the vent hole on top instead of the side screw as specified in service manual?
Not really sure. But keep in mind that plug on the side is located there so that it can be used as a fill gauge, i.e. you're supposed to fill it up from that plug until fluid starts coming out, and when it comes out you know you're filled up completely.

So much for KISS with modern vehicles with a manual transmission....
where did you get the locking ring for cv shaft that has to be replaced

Just delete the sound symposer it’s not necessary to have lol

fix your stupid smoke alarm
