This is one of the best instructional videos that I found on this subject. Unlike the Ifixit videos which tell you to just "reverse the steps" to get the phone back together, this one walks you through all the steps from start to finish including replacing the seal and testing the screen connections before finally closing up. One point that would be helpful is to tell the viewer to run the battery down to less than 25% before proceeding. This helps avoid the problem of gaseous emissions or fire in case the battery is pierced. This problem is mentioned in the chats on some of the other videos.

I watched 4 tutorials over this to prepare, this is without a doubt the best one. Everything was perfectly shown and described in immaculate detail, you weren't trying to get viewers in and out within 5 minutes. Paused and followed along with it and successfully installed a new battery in my girlfriend's iPhone 6s. Fantastic work, dude! 🙏

6 tries to unplug/plug the connectors.
Ruined the rubber gasket in so doing.
      Still worth it.

A tip for releasing the battery: When you pull on the tab, apply some tension and then wait a few seconds until the tension is released as the glue strip releases. When it does then pull just a few centimetres and wait again until the tension is released. If you just keep on pulling without waiting for it to release, the glue strip breaks.

I would definitely state that this is one of the best instructional video on youtube and definitely so for the purpose stated. Though mine is 6S, not 6s Plus, it still guided me through so smoothly that after realizing in the middle of it that mine is different and thus has minor differences in internal brackets screws positions as well as two glue strips vs three on 6s Plus, I still proceeded to the end because the video is extremely thorough and detailed as to how to do it right and also avoid certain problems in advance as the entire process is one shot deal and no corrections possible. I especially liked the fact that the author tested the new battery with the phone PRIOR he buttons up everything together. Very professional job! Thank you, my friend!

thankyou, I replace my battery today following your guide on this video. it was very helpful for me, thx.
if anyone is attempting this repair, please be careful when disconnecting and reconnecting the lcd flex cables (3 cables).
during my first attempt of reconnecting flex cables, and plugging in my battery, my phone turns on, but the display is off, but the touch id is working (vibrating as if I need to insert password before using touch id after booting phone).
I turn off my phone, reconnect the flex cables making sure they connect well on the both side, I push left and right until they're okay. and the display finally turns on.
battery adhesive tabs are important, because if you use doubletape, you will have a hardtime to remove the battery on future replacement. (my last battery replacement was done by technician and they put double tape instead of glue tabs, I had a hardtime getting the battery out).

  • @billinski42

    Excellent tutorial.
One of very few that show the ESSENTIAL heating up of screen and battery prior to their removals, correct use of plastic tools (rather than metal which may cause inadvertent damage). Good use of a weighted block and band to hold the screen at right angles prior to screen removal.
Also one of few videos showing how to attach a new screen gasket.
My only additional tip is to fix double sided tape, or loops of sellotape, to paper to (a) stop losing screws and (b) most importantly ensure each screw goes back in the right place!

Thanks for the detailed helpful instructions. I used my wife's hair dryer multiple times to soften the adhesive, and it allowed me to remove the screen and battery without a hitch. I put in a 2750mAh battery (1.6X the original 1715mAh). The new battery charged to 100% quickly and lost only 6% overnight (14 hours). The original 6S battery would go from 100% to 20% in 1/2 hour. Due to my fading eyesight (I'm 79), my biggest challenge was removing and reinstalling the many tiny (really tiny) screws. An added caution is to place the replacement battery nearest to the bottom edge so that the wiring to the battery is snug and fits alongside it. My replacement battery came with all the needed tools, the screen gasket, and two battery adhesive strips.

How has your phone been without the gasket? Or did you acquire one?
I’m gearing up to do this procedure, and while my kit included a gasket, there’s always that chance that I screw it up and render it unusable.

I would like to say thank you for this video.A friend of mine wanted to
change out his iphone 6s battery, and because of this tutorial i was
able to replace it for him relatively easy. I'm an electrical single
major at my university, but i was unfamiliar with apple technology. it
was a successful swap, and I learned quite a bit during the process; if
you don't have the hot air gun the screen can still be removed, you just
have to be a bit more carefull and patient with the suction cup.
thanks again for making this video, its really helpful and to the point.

A yery good and thoroughly explained tutorial. Thank you very much! I just have two things I want to add, which some people might find useful:
1.) The order for the screws on the battery connector plate are simple: The longer one goes into the left hole, the smaller one into the right hole. The other way is not possible because the short screw is in fact too short to be tightened into the left hole. I was hesitant beforehand to put the screws back in because I forgot the remember the order.
2.) I know you stressed the importance of putting the display assembly cables back in correctly, but I want to add that doing this can be really tricky. At first I thought I did everything correctly, but afterwards only half of my backlight was working and I feared that I fried parts on the motherboard. I repeated the process veeeeryyyy carefully and to my relief the backlight was working again. So don't panic if the same happens to you - just try it again with a little more care.

The tutorial is great. I successfully changed my iphone 6s phone battery. Got both tapes broken so had to do the nasty step with the card, slightly bending the battery and worked perfectly well.
It took mi about a bit more than an hour, as cleaning the original gasket was tricky, it was very sticky so I had to pay extra attention to it.
At the end the phone works perfectly and the new battery works fine as well. Great tutorial, big thumbs up!

Thanks for this detailed instruction. I followed it exactly and had no troubles at all. Like you show, My battery strips broke and I used an old library card to pry the old battery out, made sure not to bend it or puncture it. I chose to only use one adhesive strip to secure the new battery... its more than enough. So next time it won't be so difficult. The screws are TINY (!!!) and easy to lose. Tape them down onto your table so the hairdryer does not blow them away. I had no issues with the new - replacement gasket, it aligned perfectly with the case.

I would like to thank you for making an exceptionally detailed video. It helped me in replacing my swollen battery in my iphone 6s plus phone. You covered every small detail like informing us to be careful with the screws, their different sizes, the PCB etc. I had taken my phone to Apple store and they told me that my phone cannot be fixed !! But I proved them wrong by using the steps mentioned in this video. Kudos to you!
Some tips for users: 1) The 5 screws on the display panel are very tiny and their correct positioning while putting them back is important. So I made 5 small paper pockets and labelled them as "left upper", "left lower" etc. That way there was no chance of mixing up plus no fear of the screws rolling away. 2) In my case the battery was really stuck and had no luck even after using a card to nudge the battery from the left. So I used the spudger alternatively. 3) Although a new gasket came with the battery pack that I ordered, I did not remove the original glue and did not put in the new gasket.

I also have to say that this is probably the best video I’ve seen to doing a full battery replacement! I particularly like the fact that you made the mistake with the glue tabs, because that way the user could also know how to remove them as well. If I could I get two thumbs up on this. Very very well done.
The only caveat I would have, is that your screws should be placed on a magnetic Matt, so as not to lose the screws. Other than that perfect

This was excellent & the only video I've seen so far (FINALLY), that addressed the gasket at all... I was wondering what the scoop was on how tough it might be to overcome the stickiness & get the phone open, AND what the procedure was for re-sealing the phone. My only suggestion would be to turn the phone on BEFORE closing it up, in case a cable connection might be loosely seated. I'd hate to think anyone would turn the phone on & see lines instead of a perfect screen, & then have to waste the seal to open it up again!
Thanks SO much... great job! God bless!

Thank you so much man! I just completed replacing the battery successfully in my old iPhone 6S Plus. I did mess up and broke two tapes when pulling it from underneath battery. But managed to follow your second step. One of the toughest jobs I did. I had a broken screen as well. With screen protector, I held the broken pieces together and then removed the screen from the bottom part. It is nothing short of a miracle that the phone seems to work after I replaced the battery.
But without your detailed step by step instructions and cautions/tips, I could NOT have done this. You are awesome teacher man. Now I got enough confidence to help others.

You did an excellent job of explaining how to replace the battery on the iPhone 6S. I'm glad the adhesive snapped on this video because it did the same as I was trying to remove the battery. Had you not shown us how to manipulate that issue, I would have been lost. I was able to use a credit card and lift the battery and then use tweezers to grab hold of the middle strip which broke and then gradually pull it out. Thanks so much!

very detailed yet concise explanation very consistent with his other great vids. this guy is a real tech teacher, not a youtuber. but every view he gets is well deserved. organized and soft spoken too ... not some noisy presenter with no substance and annoying overcompressed dj music. young guy with twice the maturity. impressive millenial and ive had no good words for your demoraphic until now. probly raised by fantastic parents. power to u man. i will vote for u if u ran for office.

So glad about the trick with the battery and the card. My own battery was totally screwed up on the back side (more wrinkles than a witch), the adhesive stripe completely refused to glide out. A plastic card, lots of patience and sensitivity too care of that. Even bent my battery way less than you did yours. Thanks again!

If you were going to test the new battery, why not do it before removing the display, rather than removing and replacing the display twice?
Other than that, great work! Unlike some long-ish videos, this one doesn't waste viewers' time.
I wonder, though, about applying heat to the case bottom to soften glue on the strips. I've removed batteries several times before without applying heat, and the tabs didn't snap off. Is it possible that heating weakens the substrate and allows it to rip easier?
