All the usual problems of the vapid rich and entitled - a profound sense of ennui which leads them to lose themselves in excess and hedonism, but any sense of fulfilment ultimately eludes them. In practice, divorces were difficult to obtain due to the need for proof. I just started watching your videos and I really really enjoy them. You have a lot of researched materials for your videos. Thank you so much for the stories about these women who are just about forgotten about. I'm hooked!!❤❤
I found this Bio/story very interesting. I just can't figure Duchess Margaret out. First of all she was adored by her father, but was distant and sort of rejected by her mother, that alone set the path of her character in life. She seemed to be a good woman but in search of love all her life to the point of bed hopping (unimaginable to me at that time and why the need a fervent need to be loved). So sorry her marriage to Sweeny did not go well. I think her life would have been of much joy and satisfaction with him, had it not been for mistrust, jealousy and betrayal. Her period with the American Red Cross seemed very happy and she mingled with the right people. Meeting Ian: oh what a disaster! She made horrible choices thereafter clinging to a failure of a man, how blind. And so she passed away at 80, I do give her credit she was pretty and elegant till the end. Beautiful Frances, must have been a lovely daughter, she just passed away at 86. Both Frances and her brother in the end, took good care of Margaret. RIP Margaret, Frances and Brian. ✝
Yes, she never really did get along well with women, not as child, and not as an older woman. She never really had a great friend with whom she could confide in. She always got along far better with men. At a party at her house, a female guest grabbed a pillow and say next to her on the couch and said "Oh come on Margaret do let's gossip". Margaret coldly replied. "This is not that kind of party, and that is not that kind of pillow". 😂
Although I've watched/listened to this before, I must say it compliments the BBC adaptation "a very british scandal" with the wonderful actress Clair Foy 🎬 respectfully. However, your video is FAR more informative. Many thanks, as always, regards from the UK 🇬🇧 👋🏽 😊
Claire Foy really is a wonderful actress I agree. Her eyes are so expressive. Her portrayal of Elizabeth in "The Crown" was outstanding as well. I will be covering another amazing woman from this period today; Prince Edward's first love who met a tragic fate. Sadly we have no adaptations of her story yet. Maybe one day. ❤❤
I Never knew about her! What as remarkable woman. Thank you. If she was a man there would be as stature for her somewhere!! I wish I had half her courage !! BRAVO MARGARET
I finally managed to watch the entire video! I’m afraid your calm narration and light music lulled me to sleep twice.. not a bad thing at all! Kudos to you for staying historically accurate and I just loved seeing all the photographs; how glamorous everyone was. Seems Margaret was a victim of not only her own hubris and bad judgement, but that of the vipers surrounding her.
If id been her lawyer, she would have driven me crazy. She didn't listed to any advice. And her Father, what was he thinking investing in the estate without making sure something was in writing that would obligate the Duke financially. Especially since he was broke.
The Duke of Argyll was broke till he married Margret, Duchess of Argyll then took her money, then wanted to get rid of her so he could marry his mistress. The judge was appalling during the court case and when summoning up the divorce. He was all for the cad of a husband. But history remembers her but not either of the judge or her cad of a husband. Margret Duchess of Argyll had the last laugh.
You are right, but he took so much of her money, her life never really recovered after those events, and she lost her relationship with her daughter because of her societal ostracism. Though I agree, that posterity remembers her , and in many ways vindicates her and condemns Ian, I am sure she would have rather been able to keep the castle and her daughter. To me her highest point after these events was when she campaigned to save the regiment and the queen mom sent her personal piper to play the Campbell's are coming for Margaret.
In all the drama and mayhem, she did have some redeeming qualities. It was nice her daughter stepped up at the end. And Margaret/Ethel was at least insightful enough to know she was a ‘dumb bunny’
Spot on the situation wasn't helped by the press i know they were doing their job but we tend to judge people based on what the press tell us after everything has been said and done she held her head up and walk with dignity
To Margaret In the way we live There is not that Much difference Between us The relationships The disappointments The diamonds The materials lost The road can be long It it is often short But no matter what It's everyone's lot A life lived to the full No matter how it ends Is a life to be proud of Regardless of friends
Wonderful video, wonderful narrator, we all know what goes on in the real world and nothing surprises me , i had a friend who i will not go into details had a boyfriend who she is now married to , he took some photos and they fell out and he told her he was going to at that time post them to all her friend , i asked her why oh why did you let him take and keep the photos, her answer i trusted him , Margaret just got caught and her mistake was allowing photos to be taken , hey ho i have made many mistakes myself 😊🇬🇧
Sorry to hear that, Margaret was indeed very trusting perhaps even a bit naive. As in going through her story, all I could think was. "Stop giving him money" "Stop believing him". Easy to say from the outside; but even her schemes to entangle Ian and Jane, and the Baby plot were just so poorly thought out.
A frustrating disruption. Bombs raining down on London and she is bored in the safe countryside of Wales. War efforts were dull to her. Who still thinks she is to be admired?
Thanks again! I enjoy the longer ones it allows the opportunity to really tell the life story as opposed to the shorter ones where I edit the script to really bare bones. For the next few weeks I will be posting longer ones. Mata Hari today, Josephine Baker next week and then Jennie Jerome Churchill two weeks from today. I hope people will like the longer format.
Man after man after man, in search of the Holy Grail. I think Margaret’s life was a series of cumulative events that lead to her downfall. My late mother met Margaret in Scotland and purchased a signed copy of ‘Forget Not’ inscribed to my mother. I have the book in my personal library. Word to the Wise: Don’t keep Diaries. Don’t take photos. Memories need to stay in one’s head and heart.
People who are born with all the material advantages...money, position, beautiful houses and clothes and then still manage to turn their life into the worst sort of soap opera. Silly immature people with poor impulse control and out of touch with reality. But it's unfair she was treated worse than the men...The men were such tarts themselves and abusive...Appalling and quite ridiculous
She was indeed a phenomenon. At first l felt a touch of envy. By the end it was tinged with pity. She engineered some of her trials and misfortunes and l won't pretend to understand why she remained with that insufferable man.
There was really no choice. The only way to divorce was to prove someone was 1. insane. 2. prove they were committing adultery. 3. Prove they were abusive. 4. desertion. And proving all of those things was very hard, and depended on the judge. And as you can see their divorce went through a judge who was part of Clan Campbell. So it was extremely hard for her. Which is why Ian kept trying to trap her.
She was very beautiful and sexy too. That is always going to make waves. The patriarchal system at that time, maybe still today, cracked down on her for being unconventional. I love unconventional women.
Not even 5 minutes into this video and I'm upset by how girls were treated back then. I'm left handed but was treated equally. In response to her wanting to take her teddy bears with her... One of my most treasured memories was when my family was headed home from a visit to my paternal grandparents' farm. We were going down the drive when I "forgot" my imaginary monster friends and my father reversed the car nearly a half mile so I could go back upstairs to get them. This was in the early 1970s so it's even more amazing to me. Little things like that really do matter to a person's psyche.
The only really despicable thing was trying to disown the other woman's children and "buy" a child. Seriously? that's mental. As far as her sex life, it was a bit lacking in judgement but not demonic. She was an airhead. By the way, how does one accidentally step off into an elevator shaft?
It was very good of Margaret to save the Highlanders from being disbanded by the Labour government. Whereas the cad of a Duke ignored this issue completely.
This woman may be all that was said of her or may NOT have been. Both sexes were in the wrong at one time or another. This woman however should be seen through history for what she was A TRUE SOUL OF LOVE & CHAMPION for all the animals she helped & loved.
UA-cam Demonitized my original video and age restricted it because I mentioned how Barbara Hutton's mother died. Hope you enjoy

One of my mom’s, and mine, favorite aphorisms: “quality over quantity,” it mostly applied shopping - especially clothes shopping, lol (glad I learned from her despite myself.) Your biographies are excellent and worth waiting for. I’ve got notifications for your channel turned on. Don’t wear yourself out and take care. I’m really glad I found your channel.🩶✨💫
I’m so glad no one ☝🏽 has to be judged like this anymore, what a circus 🎪! Sad 😢 for the women, too
Absolutely captivating I love how you wove the story chronologically and pointed the finger and name the names! I had to watch it twice I enjoyed it so much! 🤩
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this indepth episode. You always manage to humanise your subjects, however flawed they were. I didn' t know anythi g about her and you really took us on a journey through the times and class she was borni to.
Thank you!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. Means a lot to hear that.
This video is exquisite. The pictures, story, and narration held me spellbound to the end. Thank you!

Dates, year, or era are definitely needed to give viewer a better understanding of events and timeline.
This is the best channel! I’m hooked. 🤗
Those men were absolutely assholes. I like to think they are better now, at least her dad truly loved her. I had a similar relationship with my dad. I miss him every day😢
Amazing video; truly a work of art.

Thank you
What miserable, petty, vapid lives! Superb video!
Thanks for watching!
Definitely worth waiting for! Thank you 🙂
I just started watching your videos and I really really enjoy them. You have a lot of researched materials for your videos. Thank you so much for the stories about these women who are just about forgotten about. I'm hooked!!❤❤
Thank you so much, really glad you like them.
@MythicMindScape21 ur most welcome 🤗
This was very well done, thank you!
Wow, Ian lied to her again. Why did she trust him? Once a liar alway a liar. Once a cheater alway a cheater. Thief or con man will not change.
A whirlwind life for sure!Thank you for a very entertaining segment on a fascinating woman.
Thanks for listening
The narrator has a perfect voice
AI voice
@@yankeecitygirl I think probably not. A little too nuanced, with varying pauses and cadence, and pronounces names well.
Good video, but I’m not a fan of the AI voice.
Very informative and interesting. Thank you.
What a disgrace of a mother was Helen
" The Things We Do For Love...." 😊 ❤ Very Cool interjection of David Janssen! Thank goodness the only "prxxx" identified by photo is Ian!
Thank you again for this story…I love your story telling…! U r the best…keep it coming…!! ♥️
Thank you so much.
I just listened to this story again…your narratives never get old!! ♥️
@@BradMiller-l9t I will have a new one from this era on Saturday. It is one of my favorite periods to do stories from.
So well done! 👍
Thank you! 👍
😲What a treat, 1 full hour🤗
Thank You Great Video The Narrator Has A Awesome Voice
Margaret was “bored” while most English women were struggling to feed their children and keep them safe. Self-centered.
Excellent video ❤I really enjoyed this one ❤your work is perfection thank you!
Thank you so much!
She loved animals so she's ok by me!
Margaret had beautiful eyes. She looks lovely in her later years, impeccably groomed.
Thanks! This was great! Well done indeed! Stay safe! Xo!
Thank you:)
Poor woman, she certainly went through the wringer.
I refuse to condemn her, she suffered enough
I hope you do not feel this video was an attempt to condemn her, but rather tell her story.
The way Ian described her in the newspaper was exactly the person he was: a fame-hungry narcissist.
To Margaret
In the way we live
There is not that
Much difference
Between us
The relationships
The disappointments
The diamonds
The materials lost
The road can be long
It it is often short
But no matter what
It's everyone's lot
A life lived to the full
No matter how it ends
Is a life to be proud of
Regardless of friends
Oh God. But, the background music!!! Why??? I'm sure it's an amazing story. I can't separate the talk from the orchestra 😢
The mini-series with Claire Foy is excellent. Fascinating and tragic story.
Please, when you give dates of events PLEASE give the years as well, not just the month and day. Thank you!
I try. Maybe I miss it at times in my editing. Sorry
It's a sad end. Isn't it. I feel sorry for her; a rather complicated woman. Thank you. Well done.
I’m crying 😢. Such a sad story
I saw the televised drama of this and im definitely with you, on the fact its a great story.. and i feel so sorry for her..
I believe her mother was extremely Jealous of her. Thats why her mother hated her!
“Candi Spelling” much?! 👀
Sounds like Tori and her Mom’s non-relationship…
Another great video!
Thank you
In the special 1930s ball was held in the Park Lane Hotel. At that occasion l asked the duchess to dance with me and she accepied. She was very sweet.
Another excellent video. Thank you.
This should be titled ‘The Scandalous Life Of The Duke of Argyll’
excellent job!
Very interesting story!!!
So, the Duchess of Argyle had a traumatic childhood. It's a shame. Not even wealth and status can prevent it.
I like videos like this. I was looking forward to watching this video, but since you gave a synopsis I do not have to watch the it.
She was very beautiful and sexy too. That is always going to make waves. The patriarchal system at that time, maybe still today, cracked down on her for being unconventional. I love unconventional women.
Elevator accident is horrifying!
I take offense to the Gemini quote 😂😂😂
Not even 5 minutes into this video and I'm upset by how girls were treated back then. I'm left handed but was treated equally.
In response to her wanting to take her teddy bears with her...
One of my most treasured memories was when my family was headed home from a visit to my paternal grandparents' farm. We were going down the drive when I "forgot" my imaginary monster friends and my father reversed the car nearly a half mile so I could go back upstairs to get them. This was in the early 1970s so it's even more amazing to me. Little things like that really do matter to a person's psyche.
That is a wonderful story about your dad. ❤❤
She had enough coins not to care what people thought of her.
Sadly at the end she had very few coins left.
A wife can't "get him off the bottle." Only the alcoholic can do it.
I couldn’t put her book down.
Great research, and a ripper of a story!
Barbera Hutton's mother died when Barbera was 4 because of 'suffocation due to mastoiditis' (according to Wikipedia)
It’s so disturbing how some parents are okay with their daughters being mistresses. As if they don’t aspire for much more from women.
The only really despicable thing was trying to disown the other woman's children and "buy" a child. Seriously? that's mental. As far as her sex life, it was a bit lacking in judgement but not demonic. She was an airhead. By the way, how does one accidentally step off into an elevator shaft?
Yes it was really a very naive plan.
I think she believed anything could be bought in life.
It was very good of Margaret to save the Highlanders from being disbanded by the Labour government. Whereas the cad of a Duke ignored this issue completely.
Absolutely fascinating albeit very sad 😢😢
How deplorably pathetic. All the money in the without an ounce of moral character destroyed her life and the lives of those around her.
Good morning & a good story.
Sadstory! Cant help feeling sorry for her as she deserved better.
Edna Woolworth, the mother of Barbara Hutton, committed suicide in 1917.
Although interesting the background music is so distracting and annoying.
Wow. I've never heard of her. What an incredibly sad story.
This woman may be all that was said of her or may NOT have been. Both sexes were in the wrong at one time or another. This woman however should be seen through history for what she was A TRUE SOUL OF LOVE & CHAMPION for all the animals she helped & loved.
Wait, you tube demonitized the video for telling how the woolworths heiress mother died? We need a new universal video platform.
It is impossible to understand why some videos are demonetized. YT has really gone crazy in the last month.
