    Great share Andy. I remember you sharing the McHale with me via text. Looks great! The Mel Daniels looks amazing to me. The color, design, fonts, image. It all just meshes well together. Always enjoy and thanks for sharing!

    Great additions Andy! Patience is a virtue and definitely paid off here. Good looking cards! Basketball cards showing players shooting through the air are my favorite shots. Thanks for sharing with us buddy!

      Hey Mike! I agree, basketball cards with players shooting are pretty awesome. I failed to mention it but I think it’s cool McHale is shooting over another hall of famer Elvin Hayes on his rookie. Thanks for all the support and taking time to watch and comment. Sorry the Pirates didn’t get the win yesterday. Hopefully you all still had a great time!

    Congrats on the great looking HOF rookie pickups Andy! I have zero basketball in my collection but the ‘81-‘82 Topps set is such a killer design. Awesome stuff my friend!

      Thanks, Joe! I’m a huge fan of both designs. The ‘71 Topps just screams 70’s to me and the ‘81 Topps like you said is a killer design. I couldn’t believe I didn’t have the McHale rookie but glad I did. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you had an excellent 4th!

      Hey Chris! As much as the NBA adopted from the ABA I wish they also would have adopted that awesome ball. I love cards that showcase the ABA ball. Thanks for watching and commenting and hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th!

    Great pickups Andy! Love some vintage basketball! Both the Daniels and McHale card have fantastic eye appeal! I thought I had the McHale RC but it turned out to be a reprint, thinking I might need to right that wrong. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

    Hi Andy ! Great Show on your quest to find Mel. Excellent intro, Abe is my favorite President. I bought a read a few books as a grade schooler. Wrote reports did drawings. I should have shown that drawing, I had it out when doing a show last year. It's a funny drawing, but you know instantly it's Abe.
    Those 71 topps are so cool, 72's as well. It would be fun to watch Mel in today's game. Same for Kevin. I also think in reverse, how Steph Curry would have done in the 60's or 70's. Nice score D ! C ya !

    • @Dcollection
      @Dcollection  3 місяці тому

      Hey Tom! Lincoln is my favorite president as well. I’d love to see your drawing.
      I agree about the 71 and 72 Topps basketball cards. Such great designs and just screams 70’s. Plus you cannot beat the red white and blue basketball. A lot of guys would have benefited from the three point line (DeBusschere, Maravich, West) maybe Steph would be more like Maravich???? Those are fun to ponder.
      Thanks for the great comment and always the support Tom! Tell Otis to take it easy on setting off the fireworks tomorrow.

    Beautiful pickups Andy! Love the Mel Daniels! The colors are great and it’s always fun seeing the red, white and blue ABA basketball! I really like 71 Topps! Daniels was a great player, didn’t he coach the Pacers at one point too?
    You know I love to see the McHale rookie card, such a nice photo of him on that card!

    • @Dcollection
      @Dcollection  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey Jim! I figured you’d appreciate the McHale. I couldn’t believe I didn’t have that in my collection. Glad to have added it.
      The 71 and 72 Topps basketball are so great in my opinion. Of all the nba adopted from the ABA it’s too bad they didn’t stick to the red white and blue ball. Daniels was an interim coach for the Pacers in 88. Great memory!
      Thanks for watching and all your support! Hope you’re having a great week!

    Nice pickups Andy! Friend of mine played with Mel Daniels on the Minnesota Muskie. He also played at Indiana University, Erv Inniger. McHale didn't like signing when he was with the Timberwolves. He showed up for a team signing one time and left after 5 minutes. I was lucky to get a Celtics Cap signed.

    • @Dcollection
      @Dcollection  3 місяці тому +1

      That’s really cool you had a friend who played with Mel Daniels. McHale seemed to have about every job for the Timberwolves. Too bad he didn’t like signing. But glad you got a hat autographed from him.

    Hi Andy, nice opening. President Lincoln is a rich source for practical illustrations to drive home his point.
    The funny thing is Lincoln also said it may be true that good things come to those who wait but only what’s left from those who hustle. Of course, it depends on the situation. I prefer your approach.
    Your video motivated me to learn a little more about Mel Daniels. He was quite a player. Two ABA MVPs! Wow!
    I always liked that photo on the 81 McHale. It captures his length and athleticism perfectly as he goes over Elvin Hayes. It reminds of when McHale talked about when he was a rookie and the Celtics were playing against Hayes and the Bullets. They were getting ready for the tip off and Bird say’s to McHale, “Why don’t you tell Elvin Hayes what you told me. You said you were going to kick his a**.” Of course, McHale didn’t say that. lol. You got to love Larry Bird.
    Happy 4th to you and the family. Congrats on the pickups.

      Hey Terry! I’m currently reading a book on Lincoln and ran across that quote and thought it would fit in perfectly with these cards.
      Yeah, Mel Daniels was an incredible player. Like many from the ABA by the time they got to the NBA and people could see them they were on the downside of their career. Those early 70’s teams had some real characters.
      I really like how Elvin Hays is in the McHale rookie card. I love that Bird quote as well. Doesn’t get much better than Bird’s trash talk. Haha.
      Thanks for watching and the comment Terry! Hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th as well!

      @@Dcollection what book are you reading on Lincoln?
      I love the 71 Topps Basketball set. Topps did the right thing in combining the ABA and NBA back then. They couldn’t do it for football with the AFL and NFL other than 1961 until after the merger. Glad you got the Daniels.

      @@tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648 I’m reading Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It’s not a new release but taken me years to get around to it. I’ve really enjoyed it. I have about 150 pages left.
      I agree about combining the NBA and ABA together. Kind of wish football did it but I do like the different brands as well.

      @@Dcollection Thanks. I haven’t heard of that one.
      Yeah, I think the Topps put out some creative AFL sets. I like the Philadelphia issue too but it is a more conservative style. A nice contrast that reflected the leagues at the time.
