So, when Polo told Guzman he has anxiety disorder, I thought: yeah, right, people with anxiety tend to find special people to make them feel safe and secure and they tend to panic and behave hastily if something is threatening their relationship with those people. And if Polo had two people like this - Carla and Guzman - it explains 99% of things he did in season 1. It's very obvious, for example, when you look at his relationship with Christian: everytime Polo talks to Guzman about Christian, Polo becomes mad at the latter. Like, in one of the episodes Polo suggests making a photoshoot to kickstart Christian's career in modeling, but then Polo talks to Guzman and cancels the photoshoot (while lying to Christian and Carla about the reasons why) and then Polo talks to Carla - and suddenly he's able to make the photoshoot. And in relation to Christian Polo is always very jumpy depending on whom he talked to last - Carla or Guzman. And in this situation both Carla and Guzman know Polo for years and know how to control him (mix of verbal manipulation with sex for Carla and with pity or brute force for Guzman). And while re-watching it's obvious they both look down on Polo. And Guzman especially tends to see Polo as a child who can't do anything and tries to control everything Polo does (at least when Guzman is not too occupied when his own issues; also, Guzman manipulates Ander too, but not as successfully).
But this moment was shocking to me not because of diagnosis, but because of Guzman's reaction.
So, Guzman just got to know that his friend has been struggling with a pretty serious mental condition for five years...
Guzman: All this time I thought I was the only one who had problems. But you had problems too. I haven't been there when you needed me. You are nobody without me, Polito.
Me: Seriously, last season you asked this guy to pay 200k euros to bail your father out of jail and he agreed, and this season you're going to say that this guy is nobody without you?
Alex: *unironically* Why is Guzman like literally the best friend ever?
P.S. Everyone in this show is really fucked up -- and I'm here for it.
P.S.S. When you know that Polo has anxiety disorder since he was 12 and you re-watch the scene in season 1 when Polo's mothers are talking to Christian in front of Polo, Carla and some other parents, it's also completely disturbing. One of Polo's moms says to Christian: 'You are so ambitious, we wish we had a son as ambitious as you are'. And you know what? Lack of ambition is a symptom of anxiety and your son, who's standing right here, is being treated for anxiety for years! Everyone is fucked up.
Also, I like that in episode 2 of this season Polo feels that he lost Carla and he's too guilty to talk to Guzman, so he becomes closer to the 3rd obvious option - Ander (who is probably the only one of those three who actually cared about Polo and not the image of submissive Polo they tried to protect). And an episode after the chemistry teacher says: 'Polo, your grades fell down after you changed your lab partner'. And Polo be like: 'Ander, can you help me with chemistry?'. 'No, I can't, have you seen my grades?' Even though Polo has probably known about Ander's grades and needed Ander to help him feel secure and concentrate and after that Polo would improve his chemistry without Ander's intellectual help (this is often the case with anxiety, as far as I understand).
And after Ander's rejection what does Polo do? He goes back at his usual circle - he tries to get Carla to help and when she rejects he goes to Guzman.
Gruh, I love this level of detail.
P.S. I might say a controversial thing, but I guess the show would not exist if Ander and Polo were attracted to each other. Like, Carla would've easily left Polo and dated Christian - therefore Marina would've been alive in Morocco. Though Guzman wouldn't like it: he didn't care about Polo and Ander dating men, but he was strongly opposed to the ideas of 1) Polo being in polyamorous relationship and 2) Polo and Ander dating each other. The latter is more interesting - I would guess Guzman either hated the fact they jerked in his bed or really liked being the leader of 3-men pack (you probably can't be a leader of 3-men pack if other 2 men in the pack are dating each other) or both.
I've just got to a point where you talk about the iconic Polo scene in season 2 finale. Only during re-watch I've noticed that this scene is filmed almost exactly like the scene with Samu in the beginning of season 2.
And also this Polo scene was filmed with re-contextualization in mind: basically they had this scene closing up season 2 and they've re-contextualized the shit out of it in like first several minutes of season 3 (honestly it made me die inside).

Yes love your analysis of Polo! You basically put everything i've been feeling and thinking about his character into words. I love how complex all the characters are, but it's especially more interesting with unconventional characters like Polo, Valerio...etc (it's probably why they make such a great trio in season 3)
And yeah that's why Guzman is probably my least favourite character out of the main characters. I can only stand him around Nadia tbh. But we can see with his friends, and they even point that out in the show, how he loves being in control (yk being the 'alpha male' essentially), and he wouldn't be in control if Polo and Ander were together in any way like you said. But what's also interesting is Guzman's deep reliance on his friends. He literally breaks down without them and they're the only ones that can keep his impulsivity in check while also giving him the attention he needs without competition, and it explains why he gets so pissed off when he finds out they hooked up; it's because he's no longer the centre of attention and i feel like that makes him scared of having no one. We see this especially in S2 & 3, he just desperately wants his friends, they're his anchor. He's lost, untamed and has no one without them. He needs his friends more than they need him. He's so afraid of losing them that he keeps them close by making them feel that they need him or they're not being good enough friends. Guzman has a lot of issues (all the characters do lol) and it explains his character but that's probably why he's the least likable to me. He's just too self-centered at the end of day aha
Polo is basically at the other end of the spectrum and is afraid of losing the people he relies on like you said, but he keeps them close by doing everything they say and just constantly pleasing them, unlike Guzman who keeps them close by controlling them.
I felt bad for polo honestly ofc he was bad for killing but in the end he just wanted to be genuinely loved by someone cause everyone else he’s been with leaves him
moral line he wont cross? christian just spent the entire summer receiving gifts in order to be quiet about a murder, he doesnt have morals hes just guilty haha
Trust me polo is really in pain in this season and he is not well, he feels really bad.

As to what the writers do to make this show overall so well-built, i don't know all the gimmicks, however one thing I do know is they keep secret who the culprit is even from the cast themselves; they all discover who the guilty person is until the very last script reading, which they do until the very end before filming the last episode. There's a video you can find about this dynamic they did for the first season.
This is the perfect show in seasons 1-3

Carla did say in season 1 that they always protect each other and if one falls they all do. Polo was just throwing back at Carla her own words.
