Announcing Julie Mehretu as a featured artist at the Obama Presidential Center

We’re excited to announce that we’ve commissioned renowned Ethiopian-American artist Julie Mehretu to create “Uprising of the Sun,” an 83-foot-tall x 25 ft wide glass installation that will be featured in the exterior of the north side of the Museum Building of the Obama Presidential Center.
Julie's art has served as a powerful bridge between past and present, as well as personal history and public space, in ways that captivate and inspire.
Inspired by President Obama’s remarks at the 50th anniversary of the marches from Montgomery to Selma, Julie believes this monumental glass window will reflect the historical context of his presidency, inspire viewers, and draw visitors to visit the Center.
