Congrats on getting that first blackfin tuna! Small piece of advice I was given by a fellow kayaker which makes the gaff shot easier. Once you get the tuna to the surface, if you pedal so that you have forward movement, the tuna will come along the side of your kayak and stay there. It will not continue to do circles and will make the gaff a lot easier. You can choose where you want to gaff it instead of trying to time the gaff shot. Great first tuna, and it was good to see and talk to you on the water. I hooked up with lucky #7 yesterday.
How far off the shore did you have to go to get to that 50-65ft depth? I’ve never gone out that deep because getting through the breakers always make me nervous so I’ve just stayed inshore but what you just did looks fun as hell
I cover all of that in the next tuna video that comes out in about 2 weeks. It's 2 heavy rods (7' & 6'8") and 2 larger reels (bg 4500 & bgmq 6000) 30# braid and 40# mono leader. 💪
