Love this lineup. Discovered the RH quintet from this same era after I graduated from Army basic training in 1998. These guys played the soundtrack for my journey to self discovery. Been following each guy since. Fortunately I live in Detroit and can see Rodney Whitaker perform once every few months. Never gets old-- eternally appreciative!
Peter I have been waiting for over ten years for someone to upload this video again 😂!!! Thank you so much. One of my absolute favorite performances. I miss Roy everyday.
LOL seeing you and Joshua in your Hairy days! Sure miss Roy. Sadly I never got to hear Roy live but I used to watch the livestream of the jam at Smalls and Roy would be there a lot playing. It would be real interesting to see young musician play then go over and talk to Roy. You couldn't hear the conversation but I'd watch to see if they walked away smiling or all doggy eyed that what Roy told them wasn't what they were expecting to hear. Thanks for posting the video.
I really like how this drum kit is tuned within itself (there's a drum solo late in this video, where the tuning is easiest to notice). That's not to take anything away from any other performance or instrument here. It's just, I was really focused in on the harmonic space being outlined at one point, and then I realized it was a drum solo🤣. But it wasn't just a Cheech and Chong moment... nice drumming
Roy Hargrove was the second coming of Kenny Dorham💯 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎺👏👏👏✌🏿🔥
Peter Magical Martin 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎼🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
