Shoutout to Broadway Roulette for the tickets!
(I don't own any part of this song btw)
I'm here after Ben's announcement. I'M SO HAPPY FOR THEM
Hail Hydrangea same! I love both of them!
Me too
To be honest, when I heard that Ben Platt was leaving DEH and he was replacing him I was skeptical. When I saw the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade I was impressed by his voice. Hearing this assures me he is great for this part. He sounds more like an actual High School Senior. Lovely voice and I hope to see you live some day.
Edit: thanks for 300 likes!
Most of the parade performances were lip synced.
Do you maybe know why Ben left?
Ben was at the end of his contract. He's established quite a name for himself in DEH and is ready for new opportunities. Doing 8 shows a week singing this score is challenging. Ben cut down to 6 shows due to vocal strain. He did do all 8 shows for his final week cuz to a degree there was nothing to lose. He could leave the show and stop singing all those challenging songs and get some real rest. He could have easily renewed his contract but after months off Broadway and almost a year on Broadway it was time for him to move on.
Chocolate Souljah Aha ok, thanks for the vast answer 😊
Something that I thought about during the DEH transition from Platt to Galvin was that if Ben Platt stayed around for too long, the show would die once he left. I think it was a good choice for them to switch them out right before the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade so people immediately started associating Galvin with DEH.
The fact that this video is 4 minutes and 20 seconds long... Connor would be proud
💀
It's so refreshing to hear a different version of this song. Break legs on your Broadway run, Noah! :)
Wouldn't it be appropriate to say 'break an arm'? *wink wink nudge nudge*
i see what u did there!!
Cindy Tran DAMN IT I was going to write that XD
I wish we could stop the whole "I like ____ better" thing with musicals. A huge part of musical theatre is that you may fall in love with a soundtrack/production, but chances are you'll never see that exact presentation. It's frustrating, but kind of cool too to see other interpretations 😊
Sara Moore Absolutely! By letting go of the singular version you've seen of a character, or even a production, it's so much easier to find things that you like about that version! 😊❤️
Ashley N , On the contrary I love the comparisons and different interpretations. It is just part of the experience when you have such an iconic originator of a role like the incredible Ben Platt.
I mean this comment is basically just saying you don't like when people express opinions. However, I'm sure it wasn't meant that way but I enjoy when people have different opinions as long as they don't force it on each other. Different opinions spark conversation and can be interesting to see from someone else's point of view. However, to be hateful in your opinion is very different.
@@beefstroganoff1774 Absolutely agree! Wrote this years ago, but I believe I was trying to encourage a more open mindedness in how groups online often remain closed minded about who can play a role "best", where it's more of an argument than a statement. As long as there's no spite, hatred, or "I'm right and you're wrong," I think comparing and contrasting varying performances is awesome! It's something I love so much with theatre, especially in regards to the endless casts that have done Phantom worldwide. Glad you're sharing this perspective with those that might struggle with it 😊
I agree. Obviously I love ben, but noah Galvin is awesome as well
Ben Platt couldn't stay in this role forever, just as every Broadway star cannot. Noah does a terrific job.
Pitt udostępnia Noah is good at playing shy and meek. Ben played the social awkwardness and hyper anxious very well, he portrayed the pain and chaos of mental illness to perfection. Both are top notch singers.
He sounds young and vulnerable... I like that
Just gonna go and ASSUME you mean that in the most innocent and sincere way possible..... I just binge watched a ton of chris hansen NBC dateline videos so my view might be a tad skewed rn...
Cyrus Johnson I mean how his voice sounds like someone who is in high school and doesn't understand himself or the world yet. I was comparing it to how Ben platt had more of a mature voice, not that it was bad. I just like how Gavin sounds more unsure. I did not mean it in a perverse way? I can't believe I even have to say that 😂
psst i know u didnt xd i didnt think youd take it seriously - my bad haha. btw relating to the musical i like his voice too c: its a good fit for a highschooler ~ im gonna miss Ben though :(
Cyrus Johnson oh sorry 😂 you can never know it UA-cam 🙃😂
omggg that's dark😂😂😂😂😂with is literally me😐😐😂😂😂
y'know, i was unsure at first. He doesn't look like 'evan hansen' but that's because i think we're all so used to Ben Platt and the fanart of Evan were he's that lil blonde teen with anxiety. but i think his voice works better? (i love ben platt, but noah sounds like he's actually a teen and is vulnerable? I think i need to hear his rendition of 'Words Fail' before I really make any judgement though. Ben's emotion in Words Fail was stunning)
yes agreed, i first saw the show with noah and after listening to ben's version I believe in noah's much more. He actually looks like he's in high school and his emotion and tone is definitely different and i like the way he portrays vulnerability

E L L A LMAO DEAD
I geniunely love how he does that
y E S
which part was that?
He did a fantastic job with this song. His voice is solid, and it carries emotion well. He sounds believable as a high schooler, and his approach to the higher notes makes him sound young. His voice is a great fit for the role, and based on the songs we've heard him sing so far, he will do, and is doing, an incredible job.
To add, he hasn't been playing the role for very long, and usually as the run goes on, an actor newer to a role will get better and better as they become more comfortable playing it. It would be unfair to judge someone's performance from near the beginning of their run to a performance from the OBC actor who was more comfortable and played the role longer.
noah is a phenomenal evan. saw him on broadway Dec 23. couldn't ask for better. we're so blessed.

LMAO I READ DIS WHEN HE SANG IT
I know I hate it, it doesn’t help his case on if he’s any comparison to Ben
Anyone else think he would be a good Jeremy in Be More Chill?
I thought he was Jeremy from be more chill so.........
definitely
Definitely
When he started singing my first thought was "He sounds like Will Connolly omg-"
To everyone saying smack about Noah Galvin be quiet. He is an adorable little bean. I saw him perform in DEH and he was incredible. I met him at the stage door and it was the best. Don’t judge before you see. His words fail was phenomenal.
Oop he has a "cradle me in your arms, my fangirls" kind of voice. Good thing I have two arms.
But wait...
wHeRE wiLL I fiT CONNor
Shannon Davidson This may be the creepiest comment I've ever read.
Atlantya I'm a child 😅 Please don't take this the wrong way.
Shannon Davidson YOU ARE ME
Cliquey McPilot lol
Shannon Davidson this scares me
So amazing! Love his voice.
After listening to The Two Princes, all I can here is Rupert 😅 ugh I love Noah sm
Eva Johnson The Two Princes is EXACTLY why I’m watching this.
@@otakugirl5512 Same here
+Eva Johnson Same 😆 (I just started listening to that podcast recently 😅 and I love it- ❤)
i was looking for someone to mention two princes cuz i just finished it and now i cant stop watching noah galvin i-
YES THIS LMAOOO
Noah was great in The Good Doctor
This was awesome! Ben was great, and you’re pretty perfect for the part too!
some might evan say....almost as pitch perfect as Ben...
See what I did there? (btw I meant to say evan instead of even)
*video starts*
*few seconds later*
Me: Ok, he is really good
*minute later*
Me: He is REALLY, REALLY GOOD
I came to watch him sing because I listened to him in The Two Princes
Rupert 🥺🥺

This was amazing, I love the way Noah interprets Evan

NOAH GALVIN IS THE BEST BOY
His high notes are better than ben's but overall doesnt have as much emotion - he tries to add emotion by shouting parts but thats not the right way to go about it. I loved his performance though, he sounds more like a high school senior and i think he'll be great
Louise well this is his broadway debut, so let's give him a chance. 😊
What are you talking about?? He has so much emotion!!
I totally agree, its great but Ben had LOTS of emotion in his singing.
Jessica Bernardo wdym it's not?
Yeah but that’s because Noah’s Voice is smaller and lighter, but I think they’re both really good singers.
I may be in love with him from just the first like 20 seconds
J. J. I think everyone may be in love with him from the first 20 seconds honestly
yesssss I love him as Evan sooo much! I can't wait for more stuff to be released! I was completely struck by his "WAVING" at the end wow.
Also really happy because this is the first video where none of the comments have been "Ben is better" or "not the same" cause they are two different people with different styles and I think they are both amazing!!
His voice is amazing!! But I worry that his emotional connection isn't as strong as it could be. Ben ugly cried every performance and I really want whoever takes over for him to be able to give that same emotional performance that makes you want to cry too!
i saw DEH a couple days after Ben left and Noah's emotional levels were incredible and he cried multiple times!:)
Lily K. That's awesome! It makes me feel better to know he's doing well with the character!
The ugly crying doesn't happen until 'Words Fail' in Act 2. Edit to add: and some in Act 1, I'll admit.
Words Fail live by Ben Platt really gets me.
You also have to keep in mind that Ben helped make the character who he is. That means that no one will ever reach that level of connectedness or personal understanding. Not that Noah can't do it, just that every character you make has at least a small piece of you. Evan was created in the image of Ben, so it simply can't be the same and we can't judge Noah for it.
It makes me so happy that Noah Galvin and Ben Platt are friends in real life.
Hailee Marquis we now know they are more than friends
Oop-
And they were roommates-
They are dating
I think he’s an amazing Evan with a voice for the part. He portrays the vulnerable 17 year old with anxiety better than Ben imo, however Bens voice seemed fuller and had more depth. I still think for the part of Evan someone like Noah is better.
420
Connor would’ve wanted this
Noah has a great voice. He does a fantastic job as Evan.
I love Noah Galvin but I can’t help thinking that Prince Rupert the First is singing and it makes my heart burst!! (If you get it you get it, and if you don’t: GO WATCH THE TWO PRINCES PODCAST 💕)
OMG SAME HERE!!!!
Really want to see Taylor Trensch's version of Waving Through a Window too!!
Alex S. Its not amazing. I saw him on broadway and he couldnt hit the ending. But he was still fantastic acting wise.
Diesel Pop , I concur. Saw him at end of last month and it just wasn’t good. His boyfriend Ben Levi Ross ( touring Evan Hansen ) is much better.
victor dunson even if they adjusted the pitch? That’s sad.
I still see Noah Galvin as Kenny O’Neal....
I actually love how he does the wait around bit idk y
nu
He sounds very nasally I think
It’s so great, I don’t care if he sounds nasally or whatever anyone says, Noah’s wait around is amazing
i would like this but it's at 69 comments and would like to keep it that way
Wow. Prince Rupert is a good singer.
Ikr
He has a nice voice but I feel like he plays it too safe
Carly Johnson he'll find himself. Ben had workshops and Washington to find himself, Noah will too!
LET HIM GROW
great voice just some parts he breathed where it was unnecessary and separated phrases that in my opinion should not have been separated. I think he will be great in DEH but it will be hard to make up for ben
WHAT A NICE BIRTHDAY PRESENT
Tay Tay HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY 🎉🎉🎉
I don’t like him as a person, but I’m sure he’ll do great as Evan. The people behind Dear Evan Hansen have reason for choosing Noah. I trust that they made the right decision.
This is exactly my thoughts
Cannot stand him as a person and really don’t think he fits the bill. Laura looks like a cradle robber next to this kid. He’s too Young when considering the other cast members. I’m excited for Taylor Trensch though.
Why not?
what's wrong with him ? just curious
I think it has something to do with his previous tv show 'real o'neals', which has some biphobic moments
I am SO GLAD that he stopped trying to copy Ben. He was trying to do that a lot in the first few previews i saw with him and you could tell when he would strain his voice and try to replicate it exactly. He seems a lot more comfortable now and free to take the role in the direction HE wants to :D
Nothing compared to the main, the myth, the legend himself.....Ben platt.
Abbigail Bulluck true, although Noah does well, Ben will still be the best
Okay but like nobody but Ben Platt can be Ben Platt. And Ben couldn't stay with the show forever. He had to be replaced eventually, and I'm glad Noah was the one to do it!
Ben Platt will always be the one true Evan Hansen, For Forever.
SwirlWing That's ridiculous. There's no true person for any role, and that's just how the show industry works. It boils down to opinion in the end. Yes, I prefer Ben Platt as well but I've heard people replace the original cast for shows that I definitely prefer.
There's a reason they're fictional characters in a script, because every director's idea of how a character should be portrayed differently.
I don’t care what anybody says. His vocals are better than Ben platts. Better technique and he finishes each note, he doesn’t just shout.
i gotta say, his voice feels refreshing- ♡
I love him so much ❤️ if I ever see him I just wanna scream at him "HUG ME!"
Good job!
Eunice I'm dead
Charles Figueroa what do you mean? :)
Wrong reply mahhh bad.
But I agreed they did a great job to the recording and the performance 😂
Am I the only person who is here after listening to the two princes podcast?
btw Noah version of this song is coool
They found a good replacement for Ben 😆
I LOVE I LOVE, THIS IS MY EVAN I WILL PROTECT THIS VUNRABLE VOICE OMG
He is lovely. I love how he tells the story and his voice is so smooth and nice.
I’ve seen Noah grow as he performed for 8 years at this point because he is a family friend of mine. I saw this show and am obsessed. I personally believe he plays the role much better and more believable than Ben and I’m not saying this because of how well I know his skill. He puts on an amazing performance and so does everyone. Don’t put down other actors because of personal preference. They all made it to broadway, so clearly theyre all amazing in their own ways.
He sounds great. But can we discuss the ridiculous number of lighting changes? So distracting.
Ngl I love the way he does ‘wait around’
I love his voice, though he lacks the vocal passion and desperation needed for this song!
No he doesnt he sounds great
Obviously he’ll never compare to Ben, but he’s pretty great. The only thing that bothered me a little was how hard he pronounced his ‘r’ sounds. As a theatre kid, the hard ‘r’ has always been a pet peeve of mine, ahah.
I may have only found this because I was wondering if he voiced Rupert or Amir on The Two Princes.
OMG same
Ohhhhh mmmyyyy goddddd
Mmmaaannn
I meannnn
WHAT did i hear RIGHT NOW
(。☬﹏☬。)
I think that ben is more technical of a singer then Noah. But I don’t Noah is still a good singer
Maddie Rivers what?
Squiggles The Trashcan Noah is a less experienced singer then ben but he is still good
Maddie Rivers oh yeah that’s pretty much what i thought when I first heard him
I mean they’re both professional trained so idk ? Ben is older so his voice is more matured and has more control but I think they’re both pretty on point when it comes to technicality tbh I don’t think I’ve ever heard a live recording where either of them were weak or out of tune which is pretty impressive
Ugh, I don't like Noah Galvin as a person and I don't feel like he brings enough emotion to the role of Evan Hansen. He just annoys the life out of me. He has a great voice, I just don't see him as Evan Hansen. I personally think that Taylor will do a better job once he replaces Noah. I respect the opinions of others, but I just wanted to put mine out there.
Lizzie Lizard I definitely agree. Noah has a great voice, it just needs work and this is a role that doesn’t fit him. The reason I loved Ben so much is that he brought so much emotion and he helped people feel the emotions as well as the rest of the cast. I’m still practically devastated since Ben will always have role as Evan in my heart, but I know the show will continue to grow and get better. Just meh opinion tho.
(Even if it breaks my lil heart knowing Ben is gone)
I love Ben Platt, but I like Noah better as Evan. He’s more of a vulnerable teen in the role and I feel like everybody doesn’t like him as Evan because they’re biased towards Ben and angry about him leaving.
Hi my name's jasmine masters and i've got something to say: Alright y'alls i'm giving the benefit of the doubt to whomever talks about how person a is better than person b just because we have our own pace of processing things. However, i hope you please get over it soon because nothing's ever permanent sweetie, this boy has been chosen to play a role that's been established with success by the actors who previously played it and that should be more than enough to be saying something abt his talent. Xx
Does anyone have the clip of him singing words fail? Either it’s been deleted or I just can’t find it anymore :(
I do!
i love him
Being someone who saw Ben Platt, I wish Noah hadn't sounded almost twangy in certain parts...."lurrrrrned" and such. Just doesn't fit the charachter...
This so much better than the original guy
Great voice. Love him. I hope I get to see him live. I saw Colton Ryan and he was great. Love you Noah
XO_Alisha_XO see it before the end of January and you’ll get Noah. Taylor Trensch takes over the end of January
Okay but how incredible was Colton, amirite? I saw him too.
Sascha Houpt Colton was great!! Amazing
we start with stars in our EEYESSSS... *later* wait aROUND i’m in love HIS AROUNDS
he reminds me of the show be more chill
Oh god this makes me ugly cry and I’m not sure why
I was really shocked when I heard that Ben Platt was leaving DEH, but hearing Noah Galvin play Evan makes me really glad, because he does it really well! And I think his voice resembles more of a high school senior, plus he really
shines a new light on Evan.
his voice hasn't that much power, but well
Ben is gone...
I'LL BE OKAY.....SOMEHOW
i love him so much! i've seen some comments saying he wasn't that emotional but you have to remember that no one will ever be as emotional as ben platt. noah actually sounds more like a high schooler and i feel like he sounds a but more vulnerable. i'm super excited to see what his future holds!
People would be 100x more accepting of Noah Galvin’s portrayal if he could sing it as “wait around” instead of “wait aRoUnD”
I love Noah’s version of the song! Really hoping to get into the city and see him before he leaves.
wait aROUND
MY MY GOD I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Everyone's making fun of his waiting arOUND thing but it's honestly so cute
NOAH AND BEN ARE JUST THE BEST EVAN HANSEN EVER
sounds like Jeremy Heere lol
Noble effort. His first window-I is not all there and he's uncomfortable with "wait around" at every point. And his last chorus just doesn't pack enough punch. But he still managed to do diligent work at the very end. A worthy effort.
He is amazing like I am speechless... Amazing
I feel like he lacks the strong emotion that should be in this song, like, his voice pretty okay! But I really feel like it would be SO much better if he would put more feeling and emotion into the music. 😊
a tinier evan omgg
protip if you don't like someone make sure you know what they did wrong before you make subjective claims
This man is the legend I hope he never lea- oh nevermind his final act is at feb 4th welp I guess Taylor is are new guy
Nicely done. I wish Noah were the "permanent" replacement for BP. 'Nuff said.
I’m so pleased by all the positivity in the comments! Ben was good but that doesn’t mean he can’t be go for the part too
RUPERT
I would love to see Noah's interpretation of Jeremy in Be More Chill
Yassssssssssss Noah, you did THAT ❤️
Is anyBOdy waving
1. Why did he not stay for very long?
2. aROUND
3. That last waving though
They already signed Taylor Trensch but he wasn't available until a few months after Ben left, so Noah filled in
I hope he still plays the character when they go on tour in Vegas January 2019! cannot wait to see this show. I heard this song and I was immediately hooked.
It’s 2024. Noah and Ben are engaged
you didn't happen to get James Maslow's song did you??
At first I thought I wouldn’t like him but now I’ve heard his voice and wish I could buy tickets
protect him.
it's a shame he's only doing it for 2 months :-(
Paul D is he really?
