Well, Maidiacs. You heard the lady. Let’s goooo! 😂
Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
That's the most informative and entertaining profile of BM I've seen in several years of following Band-Maid. Kudos, my friend, the ladies live up to every word you wrote.
Now in their eleventh year of performing, this was from Band-Maid's Tenth Anniversary Tour Final at Yokohama Arena, the largest venue they had ever played and they purposely pulled out all the stops. This was song 27 of a 33 song setlist during a 3 and a half hour concert. A few months later they did a "Spin-off" concert where they played 20 more songs that they couldn't fit into the prior concert. They've built a huge and consistent catalog of songs over the past ten years. They're technically skilled musicians and they make it look easy.
I've been a huge fan of this band for the past three years and I can't praise them enough.
"Puzzle", "Domination", "I'll", "Giovanni", "Dice", "Rinne", "Glory", "From Now On", "Warning", "After Life", "About Us", "Wonderland", "Daydreaming", "Blooming", "Endless Story", and the list goes on. Just visit their UA-cam page and pick songs at random - you can't miss.
Don’t expect to hear a metal band sound in every song. They veer into that lane at times simply because they ignore all musical boundaries when they want to. Whatever Kanami, the lead guitarist, dreams up is what the song will sound like-and they all, together, make whatever it is sound incredible.
I like to think that, even if they wanted to do a full-on country song, it would be loved by fans who don’t even like country music. You just know it would be infused with the Band Maid “secret sauce” of top-notch musicianship, attitude, and a dash of pop sensibility that would make it impossible to not like it.

Hi Angel! Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Angel, isn't it amazing how five petite young Japanese females can rock so hard. This group is amazingly talented and cohesive. After ten years of performing together, with the difficulties, and lack of recognition, plus the very restrictive Covid pandemic efforts in Japan, they have now been able to display that talent to the public. Some people think that this group is a Johnny-come-lately in rock. Wrong! They have built a very loyal following over the years. Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

These beautiful ladies are in their early 30s now and have been rocking for 10 years with plenty of Solo work from Misa (bass) and Kanami (lead). Drum fills and solos from Akane are killer. The great thing is they always look so happy with great interactions with their fans.

KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami plays a PRS; the birds on the fret board are a tribute to Paul Reed Smith's mum who was an avid birdwatcher.

Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are standard French maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami, MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on and started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin'. Well, she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an “assassin maid”. Saiki's outfit is more Spanish inspired.

The Maids are absolutely spectacular at all aspects; composition, instrumentation, arrangement, songwriting, orchestration, playing and performance; the Maids have it covered in Spades. ♠️ 🔥

New sub here. You stand upon the precipice of either falling in love with BandMaid or getting distracted and thinking they are just another band. They're not. They are arguably the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Hyperbole is very difficult to avoid with BandMaid so screw it. I envy you so much. There is so much wonderful music,, tears and laughter ahead of you if you keep listening.
There's no way to describe here why all the things they do combine to create the music. Tons of riffs - enough to make an album for most bands in one song. More hooks than grandad's tackle box. Genre bending writing and performances. In damn near every song a sing along bit for the fans to keep us engaged. Word play between English and Japanese homophones is not uncommon. Deep collaboration between all members to allow everyone to shine. What they have done is harness their egos in service to the song. Akane Hirose and MISA are IMHO the greatest rhythm section currently active in rock music. Truly inventive bass and drumming - not over played but always interesting with unusual choices that make the songs rich. They're not just keeping a beat EVER! Magnificent composition and stellar guitar work from Kanami Tono and equally magnificent vocals from Saiki Atsumi grab us by the ears.Then There's Miku Kobato- no Miku no BandMaid. A paid professional learning her instrument on the fly. Now she has her own signature model of Zematis electric guitar. She willed BandMaid into existence.
