Mathy Math Probably the worst country he could’ve moved to be honest... I’m certain that if you’re white, you will suffer A LOT less discrimination in Japan, there black people are seen as “BAD” at least if you’re white they will give you an opportunity, since they asume you’re smug and dumb at worst.
Unless you are in an hour rush there would not be anyone sitting on you as they try to avoid each other as they can. But hey I have no issue for a random Japanese school girl sitting next to me. LOL

@@randomnamefr almost every country is racist except the ones who suffered less. See philippines? They get discriminated by their own asian neighbours but do they care? 5588 apn 5588 apn I get your point. Thank you for the correction. But I wouldn’t say the “ generalisation” is racist, as the definition of racism is to disrespect/consider oneself superior to someone because of their race/skin colour. Not their opinions.
@@Nhn-hu5uq "Humans have two arms." Is this sentence strange to you? Probably not, right? Then what about "Humans have three arms?" It is strange, isn't it? But why strange? There are people who have three arms. What is the difference between the former and the latter? I think the difference is how many people in each condition there are in the world. As you know, the number of people who have two arms is far greater than that of people with three arms. In other words, the vast majority of humans have only two arms. That's why the former sentence sounds more correct than the latter sentence despite it being true that there are indeed people who have three arms. So if you want to make a sentence to describe a certain group of people as a certain quality, you have to be sure that the majority of that group of people have that quality. Now, this sweiland75 person said, "Japanese don't mind being openly racist but do mind being criticized for it." The implications of this sentence is that the majority of Japanese are a bunch of open racists, therefore, Japanese are mostly evil people. As I said earlier, to make a sentence to label a certain group of people as a certain quality, you have to make sure that what you say about the group of people is true for the majority of them. But it's blatantly obvious that there is no way to measure the actual number of racist Japanese and what percentage of Japanese are racists. Then how did he know that Japanese are racist? Because of this video? Even if what interviewees said about Japanese is true, that doesn't mean most Japanese are racist, right? It only proves some Japanese are racist. So the only reason I can think of why he said what he said is because he just wants it to be the case that the majority of Japanese are racists. In other words, he's saying Japanese are racists, hateful people, for the sake of hating Japanese. In my opinion, a racist is someone who hates a certain group of people based on their race, ethnicity or nationality. He is clearly exuding hate for Japanese. That's why I said, "That's racist."
Ken narville But you said that you never been in japan right? Why you can say such a thing. Japanese who live in your country france or tourists are so bad?

To be honest, Japan is a great country to stay in for 1-2 years while studying at a language school or something like that, and just play around. When it comes to living in Japan its another story. After the novelty wears off many foreigners get depressed like the white guy in the video because the Japanese after all are too different, and the Japanese society simply is too depressing and its pure hell to work there. There is a reason why like 10-20 people jump in front of the train every single day only in Tokyo. When it comes to discrimination white people are probably rated highest, but I out of experience know that many many Japanese people dislike white people as well. Of course everyone is friendly when you meet them but they can talk some really nasty stuff behind closed doors, I've heard it myself. When it comes to other Asian people, black people, Indian people etc, they unfortunately don't like them at all. It wouldn't surprise me if they are like 100 years behind when it, especially, comes to the view of black people. I have heard Japanese people openly call black people "scary gorillas" numerous times followed by laughter. Of course they wouldn't say this in front of black people. Sorry to say this. I lived in Japan for a long time (15+ years) in the past because of work and almost all foreigners I used to meet there were like the sad white guy in the video, or they became like that after a few years. Almost everyone was really depressed and had no real Japanese friends at all, not even people who had been there for 10+ years. Its so hard to connect with Japanese people on a deep level so most foreigners in Japan end up hanging out with other foreigners. In Japan you will always be seen and treated as a gaijin (outsider), it doesn't matter if you speak more fluent Japanese than the Japanese themselves, it doesn't matter if you have better manners than the Japanese themselves, you will always be that outsider. Every single time a Japanese person talks to you, they will talk to you as an outsider in their mind. You will never be a "normal person" in Japan no matter how much you try. All this together becomes a super negative, lonely and depressing cycle in the long run and thats why most foreigners escape the country after a few years.
Haruka Inoue adaptation and racism is different. No one in the video or the survey said they didn’t accept Japans culture and ways of life. They try their best to adapt to Japans culture. Stop saying nonsense. Foreigners that don’t accept other countries cultures should indeed be kicked out though

But yet they are expressing their gerviances like something is gonna happen... I mean 71% of Japanese don't even want diversity, truly most Japanese don't want their culture flooded with foreigners. It is not that different with Japan in Korea.. I think maybe the reason is about no race diversity in their life. I also witnessed once that people dont try to sit next to black guy in bus. I was very embarrassed with their behavior so i sit by him. I cant forget that he smiled at me gently at that moment. And i realized that he knew about people's behavior. I was shamed as a Korean. Some person in this vedeo said "Maybe they are uncomfortable with foreigners." And, yes i think so, but i want you to know that in Korea, when some people is uncomfortable with foreigners(witch is racism..but) then, mostly it is not because of hateness or ignoring thing, just because of unfamiliar thing. Most Koreans have no experience to communicate with foreigners. So, they feel unfamiliar and kind of scared to communicate with foreigners. And, some people dont know their behavior can be felt rude by foreigners. I guess japan is same. As a Korean, I am very sorry for foreigners who experienced racism in Korea. And i think it will be resolved by getting know about forieners. So i think media can change the people's uncomfortable thing(=unfamiliar) with foreigners. TV is very effective. After broadcasting the entertainment program like 'bijungsangwhedam'(비정상회담) which foreigners introduce their culture and debate about many things with Koreans(They speak all of that in Korean), people became more familiar with foreigners. Anyway, whatever the ways, i hope more people know that what makes foreigners feels umcomfortable/rude. And also i hope that Asians dont have experiences many intended racism in Western world too.
I lived in Korea for 5 years and for me it was totally understandable that Korean people were not happy being around foreigners. Number one reason was that the majority of foreigners living in Korea do not take the country, the people and the culture seriously. Just like the guy in the video said at the end - you have to put some effort, you need to show people a good reason to like you and respect you. In my last two years, when I really put a lot of effort to learn decent amount of Korean language and talked with all these Korean people in the community like random 아줌마, 택시 기사님 etc. my life in Korea improved significantly. There's still a fair amount of discrimination for mixed couples/marriages but that's often because parents do not want to lose their child, who will most likely leave Korea to live abroad. In most cases, quitting your job will make it very hard for you to get back on the job market if you come back in case your relationship doesn't work out. Some parents don't want to take that risk

I've lived in Japan a total of four years but on three separate occasions and I have to say that for the most part Japanese people are not racist, just uneducated/uninformed. Being half Japanese I did get some dirty looks because I don't speak Japanese. My boyfriend who is 6'2", husky, and has naturally curly hair did get a lot of attention, not all of it bad. However, there were moments when where we were told to leave a restaurant or shop because "only Japanese. No English!" Funny thing is that my boyfriend speaks Japanese a lot better than I do. We did have one truly racist, bigoted moment when we tried to get haircuts. A coworker suggest a salon so we went after work, when we sat down a stylist and manager came up and started pointing to the door and speaking quite loudly, for Japanese people. Thankfully a woman who spoke English came over to help. The woman tried to calm the manager and stylist down, but then suddenly got quite red and visibly upset. She hurriedly paid, grabbed our hands, and stormed out. Turns out the manager used some really racial and derogatory terms for me being half and my boyfriend for being heavy. The woman apologized profusely and was shocked and very upset. She kept saying that the Japanese aren't like that, that they were acting shameful, and that she won't go back again. Sorry for the long story but Japan is not a racist country as a whole.
@Gamz Neddyl why though? I mean they will need it if they travel to western countries. I'm not defending abusive behaviour. But if they are racist in their own country I won't mind since I'm merely a guest. I'd just leave and find another place where I'm welcomed.

five big reasons why the Japanese doesn't make good friends: 1 they are too lazy to learn foreign languages and they laugh at our accents when we speak their language 2 they never tell us what mistakes we would make, even though it is the only solution to improve us in front of them 3 they judge what people deserve to hear their "honne" (true thoughts and feelings) and they lies most of the time 4 they insult us behind the back without seeking to know us more and they refuse to talk about themselves 5 and they are too serious , they only swears by work-work in their life and by their rules interacting with them is a waste of time for westerners. don't understand the weeaboo people pretending they can befriending them.

As a Chinese whos born and raised in NZ, my family faces the same struggle like you and your family does. If you are white, white people will treat you as a local person. @@izzy9279 Based on research I have done, if you are white or fair skinned you should be perfectly fine. But, if not, the best place to study in all of Asia are the darker skinned countries in genetics and China, specifically Shanghai. But in China, in smaller villages and towns, or even in the city, they tend to want to touch you a lot. Also, they like pictures, even without consent. They mean no harm, but still. But if you want the least discrimination, your best bet is China. Idk how their housing policies work in Korea, but either way. Japan and Korea aren't the best choices for the quietest life ofc. Which yes is understandable. But if you are lighter in skin tone, or in fact some part Asian, or at least know some of the language, and I don't mean koreaboo Korean, I mean actual conversation Korean, than yeah I think it should be fine.
@Liar korea And? So does that invalidate the experience the people in the video had? There is a lot of racism in Korea as well and the people know about it and try to actively solve it instead of saying that it is "foreign propaganda" when someone points it out. Or are you trying to imply there is no racism in Japan?
@Liar korea Literally mentions in the video that 33,3 percent of foreigners in Japan experienced derogatory comments. Furthermore I never said there is no racism in Korea, I literally admitted it in the previous comment so I'm not sure what you're raging about.
I think that it's becoming just an excuse to say that the reason Japanese people discriminate is because they're homogenous and rely on media. They have internet almost as good as South Korea. In fact, more Japanese reach out to the West than Koreans. It's just an excuse to say that they don't know that they are acting racist or discriminatory. They have the 2nd fastest internet in the world. Just like SK everyone has a smart phone. There is no reason that in Tokyo, a hub for international dealings, would have discrimination. I could understand the country areas, but not in a city like Tokyo.
In terms of travel and tourism, Japan has historically had a higher rate of tourism. SK only recently saw a spark of foreign tourism and immigration due to the Hallyu wave. If you compare Tokyo to Seoul, overwhelmingly more people have visited or lived in Tokyo. We aren't talking about Japanese and SK people living overseas, though that is important, we are talking about the racism that Japanese people living in Tokyo give towards foreigners. SK may have sent more kids to school overseas, but Japan has had more foreign trade than SK and has historically had more foreigners living there than SK outside of the military. Neither country, especially in Seoul and Tokyo has an excuse, however, for their lack of understanding of what discrimination. Both cities have had broadcasts called out for their blackface and poor representation of black people multiple times. In the age of the internet, there's no excuses anymore. We need to stop making excuses for problematic behavior
tashie's chimchim It’s their country though, it doesn’t belong to anyone who’s not from it. Plus just because they have certain things doesn’t mean they’ll be used by even half of the people there.
I think you're supporting my statement rather than refuting.Everything you just stated all support my claim that Japan has no excuse for not knowing they're discriminating.
You're right. It's their country. But, as long as they are opening themselves up to the public, and accepting funds from outside sources and joining in on UN trade etc they should also open themselves up to the differences of other people. You want that poc money, but treat poc like crap all because of what you hear on the news and see in movies. If we treated all Japanese like they're ninja's we'd have a crisis.
I understand that their country is built off of confucianism, and I respect their traditions, however this is not something based off of tradition. It's based off of intentional ignorance.
I am Japanese. The first thing I can say is that Japanese people do not consider discrimination in many things that foreigners find discriminatory. It is a Japanese culture and a lifestyle that has changed with the times. For example, I saw many comments that "even Japanese people don't get along well." But that is a Japanese custom. Even if we are both Japanese, we do not treat strangers in a friendly manner. Also, many people don't speak English, so Japanese people tend to want to stay away from foreigners. It's not discrimination. It's just shy. After that, Japan has a long history of monoethnicity, and the ratio of foreigners is still low. Many Japanese live without contact with foreigners. Therefore, Japanese people are not accustomed to foreigners. I think that is one of the reasons. If you have any questions, I will answer them.
seven reasons why japanese people doesn't make good friends at all, why none/few of them are trustworthy in fact: firstly, they make no effort to speak other languages and anyway when we try to speak Japanese, they make fun of our accents and they don't forgive bad pronunciations Second, they refuse to show their feelings, even if we are polite, kind and respectful. just because they refuse to put us in their friendship circle for some reason (actually it's only when they're drunk, it's shameful) third, they like to criticize others behind their backs. they judge you without knowing you, they don't give us a chance. they don't tell about our mistakes, how can we improve. fourth, they feel a non-human need to have many close boyfriends for selfish reasons. Fifth, they treat foreigners like walking dictionaries/wallets sixth, even though they have many cultural flaws and assume bad things about foreigners, they still fear being criticized by them for some reason, while we do it for a reason. Seventh, they easily judge by our appearance when it's not our fault we are built like that "buuuuh tall or older foreigners = bad people because we live on an island" I love Japan, for what it has naturally, but I don't understand why its people are so well regarded around the world. don't bother me with disingenuous comments like "there are people like them all over the world"

You haven't seen much anime then. They don't use skin color as discrimination on anime, but there's a lot of racism there. Ichigo from Bleach was discriminated for having orange hair. And there's a shitload of manga set on fantasy universes where there's discrimination with hair or eyes color. I don't even talk about catgirls and such "demi-humans", who are the anime version of race discrimination, and often live in slavery.

Everyone is beautiful. I’m sorry,my English is not good…
five big reasons why the Japanese doesn't make good friends: 1 they are too lazy to learn foreign languages and they laugh at our accents when we speak their language 2 they never tell us what mistakes we would make, even though it is the only solution to improve us in front of them 3 they judge what people deserve to hear their "honne" (true thoughts and feelings) and they lies most of the time 4 they insult us behind the back without seeking to know us more and they refuse to talk about themselves 5 and they are too serious , they only swears by work-work in their life and by their rules interacting with them is a waste of time for westerners. don't understand the weeaboo people pretending they can befriending them.
You should definitely still travel if that's what you want to do, it's just living in these places that's not always the greatest. Of course people have different experiences, but don't let ignorant people stop you from what you want to do
Japan can not afford to be so xenophobic and homogenous for much longer. Let’s put it this way, in 1995, at the peak of Japan’s economic growth, the GDP of Japan was around $5.5 trillion while the GDP of the US was at $7.5 trillion. Back then, many analysts were predicting that Japan would overtake the US as the largest economy in the world. Sadly Japan has stagnated for more than 2 decades. Today, the US is at around $20 trillion, while Japan’s GDP today is LOWER than it was back in 1995. With the aging population, if Japan doesn’t do something soon then it is very possible that Japan could collapse. Japan already has a staggering amount of debt, and the working population in Japan in shrinking annually. There is severe demand for both skilled and unskilled labor in Japan. Unfortunately, because of the xenophobic culture, nobody actually wants to immigrate to Japan. Japan has a really tough time attracting immigrants, especially High skilled immigrants. I am connected to a network of expatriates and literally nobody ever talks about or is interested in Japan. More often than not, US is the top choice for expats, followed by Europe, Australia etc. If Japan doesn’t do something to address this issue, pretty soon they will have trouble attracting low skilled immigrants, let alone highly skilled ones.
Well isn't the other issue with getting a working Visa as an expat or unskilled laborer?. I mean they want immigrants but not all are welcome unless you have a company willing to sponsor a working visa.
Lived and worked here for 4 years, Japan will have to take longer to accept foreigner in their company, at least 10 more decades for my forecast. The culture is too deep rooted as a unified country, which can be good at some parts. I worked in 2 Japanese companies, now I stayed in a foreign company, and I 'll never never never go back even if I have a terrible boss. The high-skilled labor have more options, they will not go in Japanese companies treated like dogs anyway. What comes around, goes around. Ill say that there are plenty high-skilled labors in Japan, IT and engineers, but to take a high-skilled labors into your company, the company must learn to open and accept friction with good attitude, otherwise why they are high-skilled?
I think this topic should have seen globaly. For example, in some parts of europe are against refugees and immigrants from the Middle East. In United States, many people is a against spanish speakers, cataloged as Latinos even is you are legal, some videos show us if someone is speaking spanish police could ask them for legal documents. Also, in South america exits racims and hatred among all. At the, I'm trying to say that racism exists everywhere in different degrees and forms of expression.
She's probably pretty close to the figure if we're talking about western foreigners. 70 percent of the foreigners living in Japan are from other Asian countries, mostly South Korea and China and they also happen to be the most discriminated against because of historical political tensions but it is the same in their countries towards Japanese people as well. I bet most of the 33% who said they felt discrimination were either Chinese of South Koreans. That's actually a pretty low percentage tbh. I'd have expected that to be much higher but i guess Japan is slowly changing( and the same with South Korea and China).

田中ぽんた don’t feel bad. Japan is for the Japanese and I love the fact that you guys are keeping your culture and society homogenous. I wish the west was the same.
Wow, finally someone who I can feel really have lived there. Agree on everything.
James Bomb u have to adapt to the country u live, people don't go to Africa and say to natives be like German

Idk about racism. They just aren’t used to foreigners
@@wayward4657 there is racism there, people just need to stop denying it. And some of these people in the video need to stop pretending. Personally its hard to feel bad for some of these people because no one is really forcing them to stay there and most of them weren't even born or raised there, so it isn't really their home or some last chance they have for peace from some war or oppressive government. But yet they are expressing their gerviances like something is gonna happen...
I mean 71% of Japanese don't even want diversity, truly most Japanese don't want their culture flooded with foreigners. They see them as something exotic or a rare novelty and that's it.
So I can't feel really bad for them plus nothing they say or do will techinally change how Japan is and I think some have accepted it since they're there just sitting and tolerating the discrimination they are getting hit with.
Including the fact they will always be seen as the outsiders.
Oh they have experienced enough foreigners. So it's just flat out racism.
@Ken narville Hi Ken, which city did you visit and what happened to you? At least in Tokyo, foreigners are no more special for them. If they kept watching you, I think they did because you were good looking. 4:58 Elevator etiquette in Japan … … … Rules
If you are the first to enter an empty elevator, you are the new elevator captain.
As the elevator captain, stand close to the control panel and hold the door open button until everyone safely boards the vehicle.
Once the last person boards, let go of the open button and press the close button immediately. Hold until door is closed. You must abort the procedure if anyone decides to sneak in.
As the captain, you must now hold the door open for each floor the elevator stops. And use video game dexterity to immediately hold close when the last person exits.
If this is your floor, you must be the last to abandon ship, hold door open until everyone exits. Then you may exit.
The closest person to the control panel must now become the new elevator captain. The new captain must hold the open button until the previous captain exits.

홍영신 No race diversity? Good. No nation should be made to suffer under the scourge of forced diversity.

That's a shame. Sorry you went through that. I think it was an eye opening experience for that woman who helped you too.
@Gamz Neddyl why though? I mean they will need it if they travel to western countries. I'm not defending abusive behaviour. But if they are racist in their own country I won't mind since I'm merely a guest. I'd just leave and find another place where I'm welcomed.
@Gamz Neddyl isn't that a good thing? So they stay away from the rest of the world.
Reply@Gamz: LOL This is so funny....Namely, all American should make efforts to study Chinese or Japanese culture customs habits the language all the stuff instead of being ignoring towards those? Is this what you were saying? Local people have no responsibility to know about you, and we speak/act one way called humanity. Don't be condescending.
five big reasons why the Japanese doesn't make good friends:
1 they are too lazy to learn foreign languages and they laugh at our accents when we speak their language
2 they never tell us what mistakes we would make, even though it is the only solution to improve us in front of them
3 they judge what people deserve to hear their "honne" (true thoughts and feelings) and they lies most of the time
4 they insult us behind the back without seeking to know us more and they refuse to talk about themselves
5 and they are too serious , they only swears by work-work in their life and by their rules
interacting with them is a waste of time for westerners. don't understand the weeaboo people pretending they can befriending them.
I am from China. My parents stayed 5 years in Japan when they were 20 something. They told me that their Japanese company did see them as foreigners. But a lot of people were very nice to them, my mother made two very close friend in Japan and my dad had a very kind mentor. They also stayed in NZ for 6 years but did not made any friends that are so close.
They cant tell different unless they know, if they knw u chinese u doom
Then your parents must have been nice enough to respect the culture. From other clips that I've been seeing (and I've seen many), most Japanese tend to hate the Chinese the most among all foreigners due to their lack of respect.
As a Chinese whos born and raised in NZ, my family faces the same struggle like you and your family does. If you are white, white people will treat you as a local person. If you are Asian, people will always ask me "where are you from?" "where are your parents from?" etc. In NZ, people just look at your colour of your skin. They do not care what your background is. That is why most of my friends are local asians. We share the same issues.
Chinese are more racist.

@Liar korea You're proving their point. You hear something you don't like and you immediately blame Koreans.
If you have any questions, I will answer them.
few people in japan are good.
seven reasons why japanese people doesn't make good friends at all, why none/few of them are trustworthy in fact:
firstly, they make no effort to speak other languages and anyway when we try to speak Japanese, they make fun of our accents and they don't forgive bad pronunciations
Second, they refuse to show their feelings, even if we are polite, kind and respectful. just because they refuse to put us in their friendship circle for some reason (actually it's only when they're drunk, it's shameful)
third, they like to criticize others behind their backs. they judge you without knowing you, they don't give us a chance. they don't tell about our mistakes, how can we improve.
fourth, they feel a non-human need to have many close boyfriends for selfish reasons.
Fifth, they treat foreigners like walking dictionaries/wallets
sixth, even though they have many cultural flaws and assume bad things about foreigners, they still fear being criticized by them for some reason, while we do it for a reason.
Seventh, they easily judge by our appearance when it's not our fault we are built like that "buuuuh tall or older foreigners = bad people because we live on an island"
I love Japan, for what it has naturally, but I don't understand why its people are so well regarded around the world. don't bother me with disingenuous comments like "there are people like them all over the world"

You haven't seen much anime then. They don't use skin color as discrimination on anime, but there's a lot of racism there. Ichigo from Bleach was discriminated for having orange hair. And there's a shitload of manga set on fantasy universes where there's discrimination with hair or eyes color. Bulidrians agreed
It would be alright, just don't be surprised when it's obvious that you aren't from there, it is not the new world, it is an homogeneous society.
Travel around Africa
Japan is the most racist country i have ever visited
Japans GDP is far higher than the US
Lived and worked here for 4 years, Japan will have to take longer to accept foreigner in their company, at least 10 more decades for my forecast.
I would rather have Japan go extinct and the country sink under the sea than it be inhabited by muslims. Japan needs to preserve their culture.
Lol that lady said 2%. Japan is pretty prejudge towards non-Japanese. If Japan will ever need major aid I think their pride will get in the way
They got major foreign aid after the tsunami
22grena Japan is one of the country that gives massive aid to other countries
Sorry I wasn’t clear I mean something like a government takeover or something worse having to completely relay on aid
